    I use a Harbor Freight 3500 w inverter generator on our toy hauler. I can't ever count on the Onan 4K generator that is on board the trailer. Installed a ez starter on the a.c. and it works perfectly.
    Now we have a Itasca Horizon 39WD. I've got a converter 30 to 50 amp plug and plan to use it as a back up if the coach generator fails. It will do in a pinch until i could get the house generator repaired. I could get a second 3500w Harbor Freight generator with a connector cable, but at this point as a back up, the single 3500w generator has proven to be able to handle the job of powering all the essentials.

    Duane you have hit the nail on the head. If you installed two soft start on both AC units would that relieve the problem of getting the units to start?
    HAPPY HOLIDAYS SAFE TRAVELS

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Рік тому

      Hi Ron. Yes, installing Easy Start on both ACs is a great idea. It helps with overall power consumption in hot weather and as I mentioned in the video it makes selecting a quieter and lighter generator that can still power your RV's needs possible And the product has lots of positive reviews, so it's kind of a no-brainer.

      I think you mean 30 amp inverter generators. And yes, I plan on releasing a video soon that has my recommendations on those too. Thanks for the suggestion. I really appreciate it !

    Will these gen sets be able to power the new EV cars/trucks as well as a travel trailer? Energy management will require much thought and effort in the near future. Great video Duane! Say hello to Cheri for us.

    I enjoy your channel. I’ve camped in an RV before, I’ve only slept in a tent. I’m considering going on a RV vacation to Mt. Rushmore next year. I’m thinking that the best thing for me to do is rent a bumper pull and a Class C a few different times to see if this is the lifestyle that I want to get into prior to buying. Can you do a video for us potential newbies as to the pros and cons of renting? What to look for when picking out a RV to rent? Is it best to rent from a dealer (if you can find one that rents) or from an individual from one of those AirBnB type of websites, and what are the names of those websites? I’m trying to avoid any pitfalls. Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

      Hi Derrick. That's a great idea to rent an RV first and use it to find out whether you even like the lifestyle or not. And thanks for the suggestion on making a video about renting RVs too. That's a great idea and I'll put it on my upcoming video list right away. Thanks for subbing my channel and watching. And for leaving such a nice comment and suggestion too!

      Genmax 7250 Amazon

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage Рік тому +1

      None of them ACTUALLY put out 50 amps at 240 volts. In fact, I do not know of a single INVERTER generator currently on the market today that will put out a full 50 amp at 240 volts. The only reason why some of these have a 50 amp receptacle is because it allows for a 50 amp RV to plug right into the generator WITHOUT an adapter. AND, it also allows for a full 50 amps when paralleled with another generator, without the need for a parallel kit with a 50 amp receptacle. (because it's already built into the generator) A full 50 amp generator at 240 volts would be a 12,000 RUNNING watt generator. And currently, the largest inverter generator that has a 50 amp receptacle built in, and is also a dual fuel inverter generator WAS the Genmax 9000iED (the generator I own) but now, as of mid summer of 2023, the Genmax 10500 TRI-Fuel is the largest.

    Great video with good information. I am a little surprised you didn't mention that the rated wattage, usually in large print,
    is peek power and not continuously power.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  9 місяців тому

      It's a fair point. But the RV equipment that usually uses most of the power from a generator are the air conditioners. And if you don't have a soft start mechanism installed on them, they use a surge of electrical power on startup and then fall back to their running power usage which is much lower. So the stated wattage on the generator usually works just fine in real world RV use.

    What about the decibel doubling with dual generators

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Рік тому

      Hi Ken. That's not how it works with noise. There is some increase in decibels when two inverter generators are running side by side. But it doesn't double. That would mean that the decibel level would approach 120 db, and that could easily cause hearing damage. I recommend that you try it with a couple of generators and see what you think about the noise level.

    We are now using a 4500 dual fuel Westinghouse/Onan generator. We have a 50 amp 5th wheel. I bought a 30 amp cord, while using the generator we only run 1 AC unit.
    It works fine ,and quiet. Since we pull a trailer behind our 5th wheel i have a place to store it.

    Thanks for this VERY informative video! Also had a question. Been seriously considering a GenMax but was wondering just how familiar you are with that brand? When other mfg have a longer warranty (DuroMax, Champion, Predator), GenMax is only one year - AND they have no authoriized service centers network yet, so I'm concerned about warranty service
    . How familiar are you with GenMax in terms of quality and reliability? Thanks!

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Рік тому

      I haven't had a lot of personal experience with Genmax myself, but their reviews are very solid online. If service and repair facilities are a high priority for you maybe another brand might be better suited for your needs though.

    good day! question...i have a 50amp rv with 2 ac units. one in living area and one in the bedroom...my question is can i run just one ac unit with 30amp (dont need both ac units at the same time..live in canada!! lol) or are they wired together that i have to use 50amp? thx for your time.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Рік тому

      Most RVs with two air conditioners allow you to choose whether to run them both or just one at a time by making the selection on the wall thermostat. And if you are plugged into a 30 amp service you will most likely only be able to run one air conditioner anyway. I hope that helps Pette. Thanks for watching!

    Some of the best RV generators are the ones that you maintain.

  • @alvisjenkins1305
    @alvisjenkins1305 11 місяців тому

    They call a machine that produces alternating current a " generator " which is incorrect. An AC machine is an "alternator". A " generator" produces only DC or direct current.
    Today an AC current machine has built in a rectifier circuit to produce direct current. While a simple rectifier circuit would have a ripple ac component, capacitors would be used to filter out the AC component giving a more pure DC current.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  11 місяців тому

      Maybe so Alvis. But the buying public recognizes the products I mentioned in the video as a generator, so that's what I'm going to call them.

    you boon dock with in a mile of others that contractor generator will get damaged overnight.
    anything over 70 db will case harm to your ears, 120 is instant damage. damage is permanent lose of hearing.
    some newer ac units coming out now use 12 volt dc motors. even less to start... but do not put out as much cold air.

    I had that Duromax 1200 generator, it's heavy and very loud.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Рік тому

      Any generator that provides 50 amps of power is going to be heavy. You should try lifting my Onan 7500 watt genny. And as I said, it's really only for use for boondocking where no one else is close. But it can be a viable choice for some RVers at a reasonable price.
