Croatia is so much more than just coastline, beaches and islands! There's plenty to do in the winter, too! We recently visited the Gorski kotar region where it gets quite snowy (way more compared to Zagreb!), so our kids could enjoy fresh snow, an amazing sledding-only hill, and just the winter-atmosphere all around! We stayed in an airbnb in Sleme Skradsko (close to Skrad), which was a quick drive to the hill (Sajnkaliste Gorski sjaj).

There used to be knee deep snow in Zagreb regularly every year, evan downtown, and not so long ago.
It's a Continental temperate zone, nothing unnusual about it.
Funny and heartwarming vid! Sarah the Canadian had to travel thousands of miles to Croatia in order to marvel at snowlakes! 6:08 😂 And 5:50 A well-known saying: Be cautious! Don't eat yellow snow!! 🤣🤣
The sledding and tobogganing etc.was very funny and the conveyer belt to the mighty hill was cool, it saved your lives. lol. Though the kids were sitting red-cheeked in the car. 🥰 The "kućicas" looked very cosy and I'm getting hungry again 3:59 😳 Did you really say: "This is like really predivno?" at 6:01 lmao😂 Sarah and family, you know how to have fun and how to chill...and everything from the snow your dad brought in a trunk from Canada and you stored in your zamrzivač. ;)
Thanks Drazen! hahah I know, but those flakes just looked different for some reason, it was a beautiful snowfall!! and yes, sometimes a Croatian word just fits perfectly for what I'm trying to say lol so a language mix-up slips in there sometimes haha. I do miss a good snowfall here and there, which we just don't get in Zagreb much these days (but then again, I also appreciate the shorter winters here compared to back in Canada.... lol)
@@RoyalCroatianTours @Royal Croatian Tours I see. Well I grew up bilingual, so I know what you're talking about. :) The mix--ups are omnipresent. But I'm only used to mix Croatian with German so it sounded weird and hilarious to hear it with Croatian and English. But don't try to resist. (Resistance is futile) and my advice, let your kiddies mix it all up, they will get along with it well. 😊 We were sometimes mixing even single words. For example a german word with a croatian ending (suffix) or vice versa. Sometimes you get very silly combinations. But everybody speaking both languages is understanding it. 😂
In terms of snow: We're well-known for our fury blanket snowscapes. 😂
@@charlieranger4598 oh my goodness, it's so funny because our kids do the within-word mix-up, all the time! They love to conjugate Croatian words in an English way (ex: I stavi-ed it on the table). Good to hear that happened in your experience, too! I think it's super cute when they do it 🥰

As Croat from Germany i never care about winter holidays cause i hate snow and cold weather... man croatian friends from Split or Makarska go in Winter for a weekend or week to Kupres for Ski and other Winter Sports.. Many people from Dalmatia do it. Kupres is a croatian dominant city in Bosnia, next do the border.

I Enjoy this info, but would really Enjoy if you spoke Croatian. There are people Like me who are interesne in comtinuing to learn well after we leave Croatia. This colloquial banter would be nice to learn. There is ”Russian with Max” that has Russian and English subtitles. Just an idea.
