I’ve been doing this for 3 years. I am now in my fourth year. Only this year have I seen a significant change in revenue. 2021-2023 made around $4,000 a year. This year I have already made $4,000 by April. I doing $800 to $1000 in revenue right now. I sell digital patterns. It has taken a lot of consistent effort, but I love what I do so it doesn’t feel like work.
I tried Etsy but got discouraged in mailing. I have a totally unique item that I created and can’t do shows anymore due to health reasons. You seem very level headed. I’m just going to do Etsy with my Polly’s Posies. Build it slow.
One thing I have noticed about infringement notices is that the trademark holder has a portal on their website that allows the general public to make a report. So your competitors are going to these trademark holders and reporting you. That is why only some listing get taken down while others remain. If a trademark owner doesn't have a reporting option you'll notice Etsy is full of products featuring these marks. Some examples of trademark owners who have a reporting portal are Jeep, Harley Davidson, Disney, All Branches of The US Military.
I've been on Etsy for 2 years. My first store is most definitely a 'spaghetti on the wall' shop with lots of different printables. At one point I had about 800 products listed and was selling very little. My second store (still digital products) has a niche, and it outsold the first store within 6 months. I've since deleted hundreds of non-selling items from the first store and it's down to 200 products now. It's still not where it needs to be and still needs an overhaul, but I find myself focusing my attention on the second store because it makes sales. And this week I opened my third store, and have finally entered the POD realm (with a niche :-)
What difference does it make if you launch a thousand different designs really. Most buyers will by one of your items when they come across it and may never visit your shop. I like spaghetti and throwing it against the wall. I tried Niches and one theme shops and no sales.... I scraped 600 designs in a niche with no views. My Spaghetti approach is getting traffic. I'm going for it. I'm 70 so no norm for me! Screw niches. I look at it this way. Back in the day nothing was more fun then looking at a Spencer Novetly catalog of all the different items....Think Sky mall on the plane...I can't control my self to stick to a boring niche.....Win..Lose or draw I'm throwing the spaghetti to the damn wall...Why? because that's what I enjoy. I love to create. All the Gurus that tell you they made millions on POD have one thing in common. They give advice on how you can be a millionaire like them but you must do what they do SO....They send you to links so they can make money when they convince you to join their affiliates and in a nut shell newbies do it because they think it the answer. They don't tell you they have 2,500 items launched before Etsy got crowded during Covid. Etsy is swamped and Volume is needed to get seen. When I started they said Personalization was the key. I joined Hello Customs and was charged $30 a month plus .29 for each mug personalized. The company was good but I had 600 Signature items and only sold a few. After I shelled out Almost $200 I soon realized it was not worth it . The customer service was non existent on weekends and sometime they would not answer for days but it's good if your doing volume as the model works great but it is way too expensive unless your selling 100 plus a month. It takes volume to justify the price when your only making a few bucks after Etsy fees and Sales. Anyways if I'm on the Titanic at least I will enjoy the band before plunging into the Abyss. Do or die...I'm breakin the rules...and I'm enjoying doing it. LOL. P.S, I have two other shops of Non-POD items and get tons of traffic. This POD business is super over crowded with thousands of sellers giving up after a few hundred designs and abandoning their shops. So much Garbage it hard to navigate. POD is a tough business and if your not willing to put in a lot of time to do it its not for you.
By the way, I watch you guys all the time and I appreciate all the work you do to give us information, especially when you guys went on and took all the criticism from Etsy Seller to get the attention of Etsy about our messages and not having people to answer the phone for anything and also stores being close down, so I just wanted to say that and because I’m the only one making messages here I guess I get all the attention so thank you. If you can respond to me, I’d appreciate it.
Great stuff as always. I’ve been listening to you guys for awhile now and I still learn new things with every single video you put out. Appreciate you guys being transparent and informative!
I am glad you mentioned the low quality of a lot of the designs. I hate the assumption that everyone can be a graphic designer with no training, skill, or experience. I have tried many times and it isn't as easy as people make it seem, at least if you are being original and authentic.
I sell a variety of different niches and people are buying and i have repeat customers. So I personally don't think you need a one niche brand. I think it's different for everyone, whatever works.
You are right in one way about inches, but if you have for example a Gift shop, there are a huge variety of products that you can have in your one shop.
We are brand new to selling online. I've basically built our online etsy/website based on your guys advice so thank you so much you guys rock! Full disclosure - you're the first and only channel I've subscribed to and I've never watched so much UA-cam lol were launching our first products this weekend! We're a little different than what you guys talk about. We're a home made organic bath and body care shop so it does scare me that the market is flooded and won't work but im taking your advice and building a brand, trusting in our products, and have a plan to build a customer base/e-mail list. 🎉
Sorry for the delay! I just saw you commented and wanted access to the NEW $100k Etsy Roadmap. Here's you go - brandcreators.com/100k Enjoy and thanks for being part of our community :-)
There are endless nugget stores with fun, loving people who are just filled with arts they have stories for, and that also are local culture and such. All of these are forgotten ways of buyers, what happened is someone picked winners and now no one wants them.
Hi! Super excited about your videos :-) I am learning a lot because I am super new to Etsy. I think I startet in the beginning of April and already have 11 sales (5 of them are friends). I am running ads and I wanted to ask how I know when Etsy is just wasting my money and when there is an actual chance. For example: I have an ad running of an downloadable printing and it sold once. Now I have the feeling Etsy is spending more money on that. BUT (I am from marketing and know things) I don't know if they just blow it out the window because the product is SO low priced (under 6 Dollars)... I will not be able to have a goad ROAS. What do you think?
My first year I made 44k in revenue..this year so far(second year) I'm at 26k..it's slowly growing, id like to see more growths but its hard to compare to people who made 250k their first year 😫..and as far as designs goes .I make designs that I don't see anywhere else...and yes i have people steal my image/designs as is..they even leave my watermark on there....I have zero personalized items in my shop but I'm definitely considering it as it would help my shop grow.
Just on the creating duplicate listings to AB test. I agree (did it once and had mixed results creating an Anniversary section..) however etsy are running Etsy Google SEO Webinars with their dev's talking to the public and etsy seo engineer was actually saying that it is a good idea to duplicate listings to create a Gift section to rank for gifting. That's where the renewed push for duplicate listings is coming from. Being seo engineers they are probably right about anything they say off the cuff on ranking. Rules and regs? Who knows.
I want to have different niches to start with and see what is working before I niche down with a new shop. Could this be the right approach? Thanks guys :)
About the duplicate listing for multiple categories: 100% agree it is SO DUMB you can't cross ref categories without creating new listing! I started a "Made In USA Quick Ship" category as an experiment and yeah, it splits the data and makes a mess for me. In my Shopify, I can cross-catagorize to my heart's content and the customer can see whatever they are looking for. Etsy gonna Etsy, I guess.
I have a niche and I have repeat customers because I have a niche within a niche. I’ve been doing this for 2 years now. About the duplicate listing; I was literally going to do this because someone in my Etsy group literally says to do this. I’m so glad I didn’t now.
I wonder regarding to algorithm... i have a store i opened in 2022, with no sales so i just left it alone. Now i want to start over and open a new store. Should i close the old one and make a new from scratch or is it better to just change it? Thanks 🙌☺️
I am very new to this platform and with a very minimum knowledge of how to design, but I am very interested in learning. I will google to see where i can find courses near me so I can attend in person.
I have been on Etsy for 10 years my company is a handmade jewelry company. I have yet to make it on Etsy. It’s difficult to sell on Etsy. I just found you I want to build a brand.
The reason everyone is so crazy about keywords in relation to SEO is because back 10 years ago, it was an excellent strategy. There are currently 7.9 million sellers and of that probably 80% have excellent SEO, so if you think a keyword is going to help you, good luck. The example I give for sellers struggling to understand that their products need to be in demand is that I could take a Stanley tumbler and photograph it next to a dump and I bet Ill sell it within 48hrs if its one of the colors that are not available. I will give the listing a title of cup and no tags, one horrible photo, and I bet it sells. My best sellers don't have any tags...
I absolutely detest the term side hustle… I am a self employed entrepreneur. Before I quit my nine to five job I was a part time self employed entrepreneur it was my second job not my side hustle.
I keep missing the live streams so I'll ask this here ... what is your opinion on 3D printed stuff "on demand"? In other words, I have a 3D printer, but not a lot of space for inventory, so I put up a listing but I don't actually print it until it's ordered. My niche would most likely be "board game stuff" (organizers, replacement / upgrade parts, etc). One example is a space game called Twilight Imperium, that uses a bunch of hex tiles to make the "board" so it's different every game ... the item I would be printing for it is a hex-shaped tile holder with magnets in it, so it holds the "board" together on the table... but I would use "galaxy" filament that has a tiny amount of glitter in it so it kinda looks like space with stars. Anyway, that was just one very specific example. But the point is, it would take 42 tile holders (or 68 for 7+ players). It could potentially take me 3 days or more to print the full set of 42 tiles (until I get some money to buy/build a bigger printer so I can do more at any one time). Here's my biggest concern: Would that lead time on literally everything I can sell cause problems, even if I mention it in the description? I'm not (yet, anyway) trying to start a business that will be my sole source of income or anything, just a little bonus on the side every now and then.
If it takes you 3 days to do one order, I’d pass because people are use to Amazon speed. When I see shops that say turn round time is month…I move on to the next seller. What’s the market like on board games, I personally haven’t played a board game in years. I’d focus on making functional products that people can use at work. That will make it evergreen because we work year round, great for gifting. Crafters love functional items as well. Solve problems that occur doing everyday tasks.
@@ItsYourFavCraftpreneur Unfortunately, 3D printing in general is not very fast, unless you have multiple machines that each cost at least 5 figures, at which point you're probably a full blown business and don't need Etsy anymore. As for the market, well, just about every board game I've ever seen on Kickstarter and the like has made about 1000x their goal in a month, and near where my friend lives (who hosts our game nights) there's at least 3 brick and mortar stores within 10 miles that sell nothing BUT board games and accessories, one of which even has an entire section dedicated to used games... so I'd say it's still pretty vibrant. But my main reason for picking that niche is it's something I'm actually familiar with and I actually use the items I would be selling, so I would have my own photos of my own products actually being used to put on my store instead of just generic mockups.
If you'd like to submit your shop to be considered for an upcoming shop audit, you can submit your info here. brandcreators.com/audit We will be selecting certain shops that will be featured in our upcoming Etsy Shop Audit video series for 2024.
I agree design is everything it takes me a really long time to make designs sometimes weeks, but I do quality design designs, and great photos and the results are good. It’s just that the niche and the demand is really low so what how do I pivot on that?
My pod shop wasn't ready for Q4 in my niche, so to get in on it I hurriedly created Halloween and x-mas products, with videos and all. Not in my niche but I was under the impression that Q4 was so good that I would at least make some seed money. I didn't make a single out of niche sale, and only a couple of favorites. Rude awakening. My niche is a summer niche and difficult to holiday up. Also shop was opened in 2023 so I didn't rank anywhere yet.
Hi, thank you for a good advice for a change. I haven’t been on Etsy for long and I picked up on how bad it is to exaggerate numbers or just to say the highlights of Etsy when there’s so much work to be done as a graphic designer myself, and using print on demand, I started my Etsy shop and of course I’m not making that much money, but I am very grateful that I have been making a little money every day which I see I think that I would love to have adviceon how to compare what I’m doing or how I’m doing compared to what is considered good what is considered normal to expect so that I know where I stand on my Etsy journey so you can make a video on how we compare our store in general to what’s considered good normal so that I can hang in there so that I know that I’m on the right track and I’m doing the right things. I would love that and I would definitely appreciate it. My name is Marci thank you Marci thank you.
If I have a dba and an ein but NOT an LLC do I setup my Etsy as business or individual..I’m setting up my Etsy and it’s asking me individual or business
I am brand new. I’ve been on this for about five or six months and i’ve made 300 sales, but Christmas was the kickoff and I realize that it is so hard to come up with designs and do them and do the logistics and the profit is really small on everything a lot less than I expected and all the fees are a lot higher, so I’m a little disappointed, The advice on how to do things has been played out the photos, and listing a bunch of designs every day that makes no sense anymore, and I don’t even believe that I would like advice on things past the photos. How about some advice on how to research and find out exactly how to visualize my store as an artist I enjoy lots of niches and designing for different things, but is it OK to have five shirts in one and then six other shirts and or mugs or whatever just good designs but only a few rather than horrible design designs and 100 and that’s exactly what I’m trying to say and how do I compare myself toin general, the statistics with other stores or what it’s known to be normal Etsy sales is what I’m talking about
Im in the niche where my shop goes nearly dead during Q4 and takes up in January and busiest in summer.. So it depends. Never had busy Q4 in my life :-/
I definitely enjoy your videos, and have learned some good stuff but lately I feel that your advice is more what you guys wish were true rather than what the platform has been leaning towards.

It took my 4 months to get first sale..I don't tell anyone..no one not even my family..bc I want to save myself from embarrassment if I didn't make sales...I finally told my mom a little a year into it..told her 2 months ago..I started November 2023
For 5 years I do one nice and made 7 figures only on Etsy other platforms not included. Become a professional in your field and use that knowledge and skills to push your product and brand and make money. If you're jump on every horse in the field, you're not a professional and will never become a professional. Just my 2 cents

When I see a shop that sells a wide variety of things I pretty much instantly know it's just another valueless reseller Especially if it's bullshit like t-shirts, mugs or other obvious resell bullshit
Listen; ETSY is brain-dead. They can add browser keys. These keys know no such thing as one winner who sold three. It sells everything in the store or goes away like all the rest are leaving, and the competition saw this, I know I send a lot of information to companies many times in life, all over. The keys you press at the browser say type of artwork,/ design/ images and such. Then it says- popular, geometric, glow in dark, animals, places, things, space, other. Then it has another drop down where you can find names of artists so they can debut, and then finally keywords since keywords fell it can be shored-up. Because all the stores are dying and others are already studying why. It is because there is never a clear winner on any day. I might just buy children's scribbl scrabble tee for the birth a child, or something and those are the least that can ever win.

About the duplicate listing; I was literally going to do this because someone in my Etsy group literally says to do this. I’m so glad I didn’t now.
Exact duplicate listings are how Etsy currently says to have a gift shop section, have one in a normal section and have it again in a gift section.

I agree design is everything it takes me a really long time to make designs sometimes weeks, but I do quality design designs, and great photos and the results are good. It’s just that the niche and the demand is really low so what how do I pivot on that?
I am brand brand new like a few weeks and the information overload is mind numbing.
Can I have the email marketing guide and etsy ads please?
My pod shop wasn't ready for Q4 in my niche, so to get in on it I hurriedly created Halloween and x-mas products, with videos and all. Not in my niche but I was under the impression that Q4 was so good that I would at least make some seed money.
I didn't make a single out of niche sale, and only a couple of favorites. Rude awakening.
My niche is a summer niche and difficult to holiday up.
Also shop was opened in 2023 so I didn't rank anywhere yet.
I also start in 2023..of November.
Roadmap please & email marketing guide, thank you

I worked hard on tshirt designs and spent tons of cash and made like 20 sales in 3 years. Everyone is different.
more difficult, but branding is the best for the long game
I so agree re: don't always believe what you are seeing!
If I have a dba and an ein but NOT an LLC do I setup my Etsy as business or individual..I’m setting up my Etsy and it’s asking me individual or business
another great lot of information!
How about some advice on how to research and find out exactly how to visualize my store as an artist I enjoy lots of niches and designing for different things, but is it OK to have five shirts in one and then six other shirts and or mugs or whatever just good designs but only a few rather than horrible design designs and 100 and that’s exactly what I’m trying to say and how do I compare myself toin general, the statistics with other stores or what it’s known to be normal Etsy sales is what I’m talking about
They answer all of your wants in other videos. Take a look at them, you'll find a lot of free instructions.
Im in the niche where my shop goes nearly dead during Q4 and takes up in January and busiest in summer.. So it depends. Never had busy Q4 in my life :-/
That would make summer your "q4"👍

I definitely enjoy your videos, and have learned some good stuff but lately I feel that your advice is more what you guys wish were true rather than what the platform has been leaning towards.
Hmmmm can you explain?
I have so many questions. I sent you an email to get your take on things under a different name.

In about 6 months with zero total sales
It took my 4 months to get first sale..I don't tell anyone..no one not even my family..bc I want to save myself from embarrassment if I didn't make sales...I finally told my mom a little a year into it..told her 2 months ago..I started November 2023
For 5 years I do one nice and made 7 figures only on Etsy other platforms not included. Become a professional in your field and use that knowledge and skills to push your product and brand and make money. If you're jump on every horse in the field, you're not a professional and will never become a professional. Just my 2 cents

When I see a shop that sells a wide variety of things I pretty much instantly know it's just another valueless reseller
Especially if it's bullshit like t-shirts, mugs or other obvious resell bullshit
