I had a similar idea. since it's a fox dps shock, i was going to de stroke it with the 5mm spacer and get 127mm of rear travel and run a 130mm fork. I feel that this route would be better than a 140mm front.
That’s full commitment haha! As you see in the video the geometry changes were relatively minimal with the 140mm fork. And depending on what you’re after, a slightly slacker front end higher bottom bracket isn’t a bad thing
Regarding the mullet being worse on tight hairpins corners, I think that in this case it's more due to the slacker head tube angle and longer wheelbase which make the bike less agile than the larger front wheel per se
This was a great video! I've been so torn between the Commencal Meta SX mullet or the CLASH 27.5...it looks like for cornering, handling, and jumping the 27.5 is better and the only advantage of the 29 is roll over and that's if you have knarly stuff in your area...I can get over the small climbing advantage as I don't have any black diamond trails in my area, I think I'm leaning a little more towards the clash 27.5 thank you!
I ride a 27.5 Hardtail, Ragley BluePigRace, and would love to test out the 'mullett' theory, but a bit costly for a new fork, wheel and tyre......Hmmm...One day maybe...Ha !!
Hello, also trying to build a mullet 26er with a 27.5 in the front. asking on what fork length should i go with? I'm 5'8 and i will moslty use the mullet bike as my daily.
Great video … I’m a beginner and trying to master mtb… esp with cornering and downhill etc. I have 27.5 . What is better for learning skills a mullet or a 27.5?
The best bike is the bike you feel most comfortable on - for some riders that's a full 27.5 bike, and for others that's mullet....or even a 29er. When you're starting out, it's best to just work with what you've got to iron out all of those skills and gain experience. An experienced rider can work with any wheel size.
For XC riding I feel comfortable in a half shell helmet and gloves. But yes, I wear my full face and knee pads at the bike park and when I’m racing enduro. But risk is relative, so I’m sure there are some riders out there who like to wear a full face for XC, which I have no problem with!
Hey there... question regarding statement on 1:19... "For this reason, Polygon and BikesOnline don't recommend mulleting the 29" wheeled bikes (sizes M-XL) in the Siskiu series" ... is this an official stand from Polygon and BikesOnline? The reason I am asking is because I asked BikesOnline Australia about mulleting my bike (Siskiu T7, Medium 27.5). Their answer was, in summary, mulleting the bike will void the frame warranty. A bit conflicting, hey?
To clarify, it's OK to mullet the 27.5 bikes, but we don't advise it on the 29er bikes simply because of how it will impact the BB height. Hope this helps!
@@bikesonline I recently bought a 29'' T8, to make it less clumsy and more agile, can I change both wheels to 27.5''? does it also have negative impact for riding or is it worth a try?
Exactly what i was looking for! If i were considering running a T8 mullet, do you have a recommendation on whether it would be easier to get the 27.5 or the 29 Medium to start with?

Great vid 🤙🏾
Glad you enjoyed it!

That's definitely a possible cause! Good observation!

Interesting. I'm guessing a 27.5 front and 26 rear would also be considered a mullet configuration?
Would probably drop the BB a bit to low on the Siskiu, you’d be getting a lot of pedal strikes!
@@ridingwithjoshandwendy That may be a possibility, at least in some instances.
I went to a 140mm 29er fork on my 27.5T8 it was an absolute beast!!
Sounds like fun!

True! Thankfully I had an extra one laying around, otherwise it would be a pretty pricey experiment haha!
Right on!!

It depends on what your bike is meant to take in terms of fork stroke!

I just can get my head around you riding a double diamond black without protective gear. At least a ff and kneepads. Stay safe!

The 27.5 model is the ideal candidate for the mullet format!
What would I need to do to maintain the geometry on my Marin alpine trail carbon 2 if I ran a mullet
Since the rear is setup to be 29er, going mullet would not be advisable. The bottom bracket would likely drop too low.
@@bikesonline im awareof that but would a offset bushing counteract this enough for the geometry to remain mostly the same?
