How is car a masculine noun?
It is quite random.
Genders in languages sometimes simply divide the nouns according to certain criteria. For example, nouns that are feminine may be intangible things, while physical nouns may be masculine. It's a way of classifying the nouns according to whatever criteria was used in the development.
