What is Project M? Project M is the premier Brawl modification inspired by Super Smash Bros. Melee's gameplay designed to add rich, technical gameplay to a balanced cast of characters while additionally enhancing the speed of play. Project M employs new codes which seamlessly add in new, universal features to the entire cast to add technical variety to all characters.

6 years later and I still come back to this trailer every now and again. I won't lie, I do really like ultimate but a part of me is still attached to this and a lot of the changes they made in this mod makes me wish they could've worked with nintendo to implement some of them in an official game.

This was probably the single best reveal in the history of any game. The sheer time and dedication put in to not only porting two classic fighters - Mewtwo and Roy - but also a slew of veterans simultaneously just blows my mind. I have nothing but praise to give and thanks for such an honest endeavor in the pursuit of happiness. Thank you so much! :)
I always come back to watch this trailer, project m is really important for me, in changed my life to be honest, I met people, I became friends with my brother...and it was my first competitive game, Project M is my favorite game ever..
Coming back to watch this weeks away from Ultimate coming out, and I still get absolute chills.
Ultimate looks great and all, but Project M is still where my heart lies for Smash Bros. and it's going to have to do something crazy to pull it away... maybe Slime being playable...

This looks so awesome, i can't wait! I honestly think this mod is better than any official smash brothers game. The changes make every character fun to play as, especially since you know they're pretty much balanced with the rest of the characters. Not to mention the fact that they're bringing back old characters, and creating new costumes that serve as homages to the character's games outside of smash brothers. But i gotta admit...
I'm not looking forward to getting my ass kicked by the IceClimbers, and their ChainGrab of doom :(
Well thankfully, Cmart confirmed that their Wobbling and Brawl handoffs won't return. What they have instead is something that Chudat does in Melee.

The hype is real. Project M is one of the greatest video games I've ever played, I cannot thank the creators enough for all of the hard work! You guys are amazing, I'm so pumped for 3.0!

You guys are legends!! this is by far the greatest Brawl hack, and one of the best if not THEE best game mod in gaming history, you really did go above and beyond, and all because you just WANTED to do it, as a project in free time. When Samus switched beams I went fucking bananas. That shit is so innovative for any smash character EVER. Nintendo had three chances to change up Samus in some major way, and the PMBR goes ahead and takes the cake. Of course everything else is amazing too. Much respect to PMBR

I sold my Wii long before I knew about Project M, but watching this, I've just got to say... your changes to Samus got me so, SO HYPED. Genuinely cheered out loud.
I remember all those haters yesterday screaming WHERES SAMUS AND WHERES (insert rest of roster here)...well there you have it. lets just hope that all we need is a 3.1 patch for balancing and then full demo!

We had our biggest tournament a few months ago, The Olympus which was really awesome.

Nah, I know it's still around, albeit not as much. I just meant that the reveals for Smash 4 were certainly more hype. This video is pretty cool though, and they did a pretty good job of bringing hype for a mod / fangame.
I'm honestly more hyped for this than I am with Smash Bros. 4. You're doing an incredible job with this.

Have you seen ShunOne's thread on Smashboards? It's the number one most viewed thread in the entire "Custom Content" section. Him and Taiko really have showed great improvement in their modding skills from Project: Maritime/Mars/Minty to the new Smash 4 updates they're putting out even to this day!
I don't like it when people brush this mod like it's any other punk's attempt to "Break" a game, this is THE MOD everyone should try or look at. The boundaries they've broke is simply marvelous in its own, and their not given the true praise they deserve. Who would've thought they would come this far, and still pushing to make things better in the end. Big shout out to the Brawl hacking team and contributors that laid down the foundation that the PMBR team were able to build upon to make the best Melee mod up to date. Also a big shout out to Nintendo by making the series we've grown to love and all of this possible to begin with. The PMBR has accomplished what was not the goal of Sakurai's team when making Brawl, but the goal of all the Melee fans, and everyone interested in competitive, balanced play by making Project: M THE GAME to PLAY

Even though I'm type of person who believes "what's the point in making a mod for brawl". The character animation improvements and the additional costumes are pretty damn awesome! These guys are talented!
What's the point in making a mod for brawl? Maybe because brawl was a casualized, slow paced piece of shit compared to melee and it needed these improvements desperately.

slow paced =/= bad.
if you're coming into brawl expecting melee 2, don't. it definitely is slower and that is a problem for some, but it creates a surprisingly different metagame. in combination with some of the twitch reflex stuff you see in melee, you also have quite a bit more mindgames and prediction. I mean prediction was always there but because you have more time it's prevalent in brawl.

Personally, I loved vBrawl more than Melee (guess it was more my pace), but I love this too. I like it a lot more than Melee thus far.

What will happen to Project M after SSB4? Also amazing, i remember when the mod first came out, we all knew something wonderful was made.
Today, we bid farewell to that infernal phrase "Why not just play Melee?" Good riddance!
The new question will be "Why not try Project M?" With so much new (and old) being brought to the table, this is undeniably Smash in top form!

I actually got a little choked up when Samus appeared on screen.
With the way Nintendo's been lately, cracking down on Let's Play videos and not localizing games that people want, I'm scared they will shut down Project M around SSB4's release. And that is a damn shame.
Nintendo had stopped enforcing ad policies on Let's Plays since June. The whole circus show only lasted a month.
I can't believe people are still sourcing that they reversed their decision on monetizing LPs in fact most Nintendo Content still is up and just fine on YT. I would more readily hate a company like SE who does flag channels on a regular basis just for having their content.
Also about localizing what games do you want them to bring over because last time I checked there is a hell of a lot of stuff coming or has come out that never would have left japan. If you are meaning stuff like MH4 that is Capcom's choice even if nintendo says they want to 3rd Party localization is out of Nintendo's hands. Now if it was first party games then I could see what you are saying.
They would've stopped it by now. Bill Trinen said if it's about Smash and is on the internet, Sakurai likely knows about it.
I remember Sakurai saying that he was incredibly impressed with the modding community and was working to make SSB4 more competitive and customizable. So I think Project M is fine.
So they stopped that LP nonsense in June, and then in July they tried to shut down the SSBM Evolution 2013 stream, the day before, or the day OF the tournament. This was after fans got the game into the tournament by donating money to breast cancer research, of which Melee was declared "victorious" on February 2013. You see where I'm going with this?
If it wasn't for this game, I would have never gotten into Smash Bros. in general.
This game is the reason why I started to love Super Smash Bros. to this very day.

Honestly though, you guys have outdone yourself. This mod blew my mind already, and now I'm really just speechless. I find no reason to play melee or brawl anymore. While both are amazing games, P:M just crushes them. Thanks a bunch to everyone in the PMBR! We love you guys! Not a single hater out there now that the whole character roster is complete.

Probably one of the most hype eras of my teens. I was modding Brawl on my Wii so damn much dude. I’d spend all day doing it. Project M brought out something in me , like it’s the version of Brawl I really expected out the gate.

I really really really hope that the Smash community explores and experiments with Project M as much as they have done with Melee. I am very convinced that there are some amazing things that will be discovered over the years, and I am excited to see all these awesome characters being used in such a beautiful way.

You guys are absolutely amazing great job on this mod.
With the whole copyright thing going on and not including characters that aren't trophy's and stuff, the only 2 I legitimately want to see included, are 2 awesome antagonists. Shadow, and The Black Knight from Fire Emblem. Shadow would be a good Sonic clone but with a few changes to attacks and stats. And the Black Knight...well, surprises are nice.

ZedMANIA4 well, i don't know, smash 4 already has 5 mario characters and it seems that's the limit for each character roster, but who knows ? maybe the project M hackers read your comment and edit a paper mario, but the fact a new character is going to be added to a game depends mostly on his/her fanbase.

I really appreciate the immense effort put into this, but always remember to give Nintendo respect as well. I know we love Meleefying our Brawl, but DO give Smash Brothers 4 a go when it comes out. Don't forget it. Hell we might even EVOLVE that into a new Project M 2.

But seriously, this mod started as making a Melee sequel and turned into something else. It's inspired by Melee, but this became its own thing, and is far above and beyond the community originally thought it would be. Great work, Project M team.

As much as I preferred a lot of Brawl's design choices like being able to grab a ledge even if you weren't facing it, and dodging multiple times in midair to fix the Wavedash exploit
I cannot even begin to deny that Project M is the best Brawl Mod there is, and probably what Brawl should have been.
That said, I'm very stoked for Smash Bros. 4
So....you preferred to let the game baby you into grabbing ledges? and Wavedashing is a good exploit that helps make more high level plays. IMO Brawl introduced nothing but BAD design choices (what kind of shit were they on when they made tripping) You are correct Project M IS what Brawl should have been and it is sad that it will never get the attention it deserves because morons (like one of my friends) shrug it off as a hax and not a real game.
It does make me happy to see it grow in popularity. Smash 4 needs people like these helping make their game. People that know what people want and at the same time cater to more casual players that are suckers for graphics and more variety (project M isn't short on these) It doesn't matter to me if Smash 4 sucks because I have Project M
I have always been confused whenever I hear some non-competitive players complain about wavedashing. More than 90% of you have no idea how to utilize It correctly, and just spam it. Most of you just end up being far more predictable and easy to punish than if you didn't use it at all.
Using it correctly requires far more knowledge and skill at the game competitively, the kind of knowledge and skill that only someone who is truly interested in the game competitively would bother to learn, something that I doubt your friends or you(definitely you) would take the time to do. And so to get back to my original point, if any of your friends were spamming wavedashing, all it would of done is made them easier for you to predict.
I wouldn't say it was babying me, I just think that if I reach the ledge it should count. And yeah it's a useful exploit but it's still an exploit. I don't think Brawl was nothing but bad design (Except for tripping, agreed. That shit is the worst.) But I do think that it was a considerable missed opportunity.
I'm really liking what I'm seeing for Smash 4 so far, and I don't just mean Megaman or whatever. It looks considerably faster, it looks like there's enough hitstun to combo with and, of course, it's visually great. I'm hyped.
I'm not COMPLAINING about Wavedashing, but it was clearly not an intended mechanic.

Combos were not an intended mechanic in Street Fighter 2. Glad they got rid of them in later games.
