If you get a chance, look under the volume and tone knob plate. My Champion has a tiny slip of paper that reads “Inspected by Gloria with the month and date, 1954.
3 more great lap steel players to check out: Meghan Lovell of the group Larkin Poe, who plays blues and rock; Cindy Cashdollar (yes, her real name!), equally comfortable playing western swing and blues (from Asleep at the Wheel to playing "Killing Floor" and "Prodigal Son" with the awesome bottleneck slide guitarist Sonny Landreth) ; and Dan Dubuque, who plays Instrumental versions of songs by Tool, Rage Against The Machine and Nirvana on heavily amplified Weissenborn acoustic lap steel with pedals, effects, and distortion ---- a huge sound, very percussive, and it shouldn't work at all, but it's freaking great !
Hello Anthony, thank you for joining our community of guitar friends! That is a great subject. I will definitely fulfill your kind request as soon as I come across a good tweed Champ. This reminds me that years ago I had a terrific 1958 tweed Deluxe 5E3; too bad I let it go.
It would be great to dedicate an entire video to the B String bender and its history. In essence, the strap button on the upper shoulder bends the string through a system of levers. Thank you Livia!
In fact I had a hard time combing through hours of footage with pointless off-beat playing, Ha! Ha! : ) I'm really happy that you enjoyed the homage Jonny!
Ciao Bob! Strepitoso come sempre!!! E in più sei fortunato ad avere tra le mani tutte queste meraviglie! Bravissimo, ogni tuo video è un piccolo capolavoro di ricerca, gusto,e bravura!!! Thanks a lot!!!
Che meraviglia Bob!!! Qui ci sono i "bisnonni" dei Suoni del nostro Cuore... Grazie sempre per i tuoi preziosissimi video, e le infinite informazioni, e la squisita passione che ci regali. Grazie. ste.
Underneath the volume and tone plate on my Champion I found a tiny slip of paper that reads… “Inspected by Gloria Nov 4, 1954”
That's interesting Scott, thank you for sharing. It's most likely Gloria Fuentes, historic Fender employee and assembler.
Thank you very much. A fantastic video.
Thank you so much for your awesome comment Dave, please feel free to subscribe and to stick around! : ))
Very good video.
I own a 1954 Fender Champion, it was my Grandfather's lap steel. It's Blonde Serial #4654 all original.
Thank you again.
Thank you for your kind feedback Kenneth and congratulations on your awesome vintage instrument!

NOT GOOD COMING FROM A STEEL PLAYER
I noticed that the video has been appreciated on a forum of lap steel players so please let me know your thoughts.
I did not understand how the string-bender work....I see the mechanics, but...I don' t get how it works... thanks Bob!!
