      I bought OP 9 Pro in 2021 only because of Oxygen OS. In the course of a year and a half the OS changed looks completely 2 or 3 times, camera app degraded sooo much with every update losing the smooth lens transitioning and other stuff. Never ever again will i buy a chinese OS smartphone

    I was really disappointed OnePlus fell off. Looking for an upgrade from the 6t made me go with the Pixel 7. There's so many small, nice things about Oxygen OS I got used to that apparently aren't standard on other Android phones. Never thought OnePlus would return to glory, but maybe there's hope?

      @MistaC1998 Рік тому +8

      Same story here. Uninterrupted screen is the only thing keeping me from upgrading immediately. My 7 Pro is getting noticeably laggy and the battery life is awful nowadays, but I refuse to "upgrade" if it means giving up screen real estate.

    • @Landofhim
      @Landofhim Рік тому

      Unfortunately I dropped mine and broke the screen, so being forced to choose between this and the Pixel 7 pro. Both look good, but with a few glaring omissions. The lack of decent telephoto, no wireless charging and overall weaker camera with the OP11 vs slow charging, weak battery, underpowered chip of the P7 pro.
      Don't think should be so many compromises at this price range.

    • @KHuyPh
      @KHuyPh Рік тому +1

      OnePlus 8 Pro is really good too. If you liked OnePlus back in the day but wanted the full flagship experience then I would say the 8 Pro was peak minus the change to a hole-punch instead of the pop-up. If you watch the reviews back when it came out and even at the end of 2020, the 8 Pro and 8Ts were HUGE successes. The 7s were probably more popular since the price was so much cheaper than the 8s and more in line with the "flagship killer" trope. I still have my 8 Pro from 2020 and I think it was worth it for the better camera performance. Moving away from the original OxygenOS kinda sux, but I believe the 7s also have that issue.

  • @mgraham0160
    @mgraham0160 Рік тому +144

    My major trust issue is with the software side of things. As a 7T customer, i've watched as the experience got worse and worse since 2021, to the point where I had to install the final update for the 7T myself as a sideload! I can't trust OnePlus anymore after that, especially since I hold on to my phones for 4 years at a time. As much as they promise to be different, I need a company actually COMMITTED to at least security updates for that amount of time, which I doubt they are. I guess that will leave me with the S23 or 24 when I upgrade next year.

    • @franklingoodwin

      Same, the software update for my 7T made me hate it! And seeing reviews where every new phone since the 7T has not improved the camera tech much, and the software hasn't gotten better... and now they remove features like wireless charging. Forget it, I'm switching to Sony or the Pixel next time. Heck, even though I don't like Samsung's UI, I might even consider the next Flip!

    • @DrathVader
      @DrathVader Рік тому +10

      Same here. My 7T has been a nightmare software-wise. They took ages to update to Android 11, and 12 was just embarrassing all around, not to mention the bugs in 12 and constant (broken) promises of AOD. I love the hardware, but I'm sick and tired of fighting the software.
      Even if OP goes back to the drawing board and separates OOS from ColorOS, how can I trust them to keep it that way?
      So I switched to Galaxy S23. Four android updates and five years of security updates sounded really convincing. I was worried I wouldn't like OneUI but so far I'm very happy with it and the phone in general.

      Yes I also have 7T with A12 and I'm not happy with what they done but it's 3.5 year old phone and I don't remember if they promised so long support. Anyway this OP11 looks promising, if they guarantee that updates maybe they will do it, less phones in portfolio means they will be able to keep more attention. Face unlock is much slower and swiping on google calendar widget is buggy now.

    The problem with 1+ is that they themselves seem to know that the weird decisions(removing wireless charging, alert slider, camera setup etc) they make on their lineup won't go well with their fanbase, but they decide go with those choices nonetheless.

    Question pertaining to something I think many reviews aren’t touching on… The 2X telephoto camera appears to be the same size sensor as the primary (1/1.56), making this one of, if not the only, smartphone with an equally sized sensor for a secondary lens. It’s understandable that the far zoom photos are not up to par compared to others, but what about 2x portraits? Have you found that the telephoto sensor is better than other brands’ solution of cropping in on the primary sensor?

    • @TheMrMobile
      @TheMrMobile  Рік тому +14

      The portrait performance is good (especially with the Hasselblad Master mode color enhancements - see samples) but to me that doesn't negate the overall loss of capability as a result of using 2x optics when 3x and 5x are the new norm.

      @@TheMrMobile Thanks a ton for responding. That was the sole reason I was interested in the device. I'd like to try Vivo phones for their Zeiss simulations of their classic lenses. Now watching your review I understand OnePlus with Hasselblad collaboration as there is a parent company for both smartphone brands. Nevertheless there is a contradiction in these approaches: straight out of camera photos from dedicated and long lasting cameras have a natural look by relying in hardware rather than software; smartphone cameras, almost disposable devices, are in a race to use more software to get thinner hardware, tailored to tastes of general audiences, not printing needs of professionals. I feel collaborations don't show a noticeable difference, besides an additional label.

    • @govardhanposina17
      @govardhanposina17 Рік тому +1

      I'd disagree here, the Leica collaboration truly helped Huawei dominate the smartphone still camera game for about 3 years and their influence has really helped Huawei get their head in the camera game
      Same goes for Vivo, they're cameras have really been dominant and constantly improving since their collaboration with Zeiss, it's honestly been unbelievable since their smartphone stills were some of the most autotuned and saturated ones out there and now, with Zeiss Natural Color on, they're refreshingly restrained yet retaining amazing image clarity and color.
      Oneplus's collaboration with Hasselblad however hasn't resulted in such a dramatic increase in still quality, it's still hinging on a lot of gimmicky modes to leverage the hassleblad branding and that just makes me sad

    • @ReinoldFZ
      @ReinoldFZ Рік тому

      @@govardhanposina17 I had a Huawei P8 lite withoit Leica branding, the camera app was excellent and the integration to Lightroom better than in my current Samsung S20 FE. My point is that more than a collaboration smartphone companies get inspiration from camera companies, this because if not for side by side comparisons is difficult to notice differences between smartphone flagships, and because camera companies, despite their heritage, aren't big enough to evolve their products at the pace of smartphones as the costs would be prohibitive. A simple way to prove this is that the technology in smartphones is seldom translated into digital cameras, or coming from them; you have Huawei pioneering Leica bokeh simulations, but you won't have Leica doing, let's say, a small Leica X Vario successor with a simulated bokeh to compensate for the dim lens and smaller aps-c sensor or making smartphones directly in that profitable market, it is more work from the smartphone engineers that without the collaborations still as my budget Huawei shows, can make elegant colors and well done exposures.

    I bought a Sony Xperia 10 iii in December of 2021. Decent budget (still like $300 I think) phone with a headphone jack and tall aspect ratio. Can't find cases for it though since I'm not sure it ever actually came to North America, I imported mine.
    I'm getting frustrated the best brands are ignoring my want for a headphone jack. Sony is the only reliable brand left with the feature it seems, keeping android security up to date for 3 years so far (I think).
    I am excluding the Pixel A, since I had such a bad time with my Pixel 3 hardware. I consider Google a bad brand.
    Maybe OnePlus will have to start serving odd features/markets. Despite how well this phone has been received, they have a lot of competition in this area.

      Xperia owner here (1ii), am honestly somewhat disappointed with my purchase. I like most of the phone - though Sony's software support is just genuinely awful (*two* OS updates even to this day with the $1500 Xperias?? really?) plus the obvious lack of support since I also imported my unit. But alas, they're basically the only flagships nowadays with a microSD slot and a headphone jack, so do I really have another choice? Even more so if I want something that's not a 6.7 inch monstrosity.
      P.S. Pretty sure the Pixels have gotten far better since the P3 days... Was really tempted to go pick up a 6a before I realized how expensive those were due to them also being imports. Still think my next phone will be a Pixel.

For the past two years I had been thinking that *I'll wait for the next year to get a well priced high end phone* just to realize everything was pretty much overpriced. Reasons to own a OnePlus phone:
    - Industry leading speed with flagship performance.
    - Insane charging speed and big battery life.
    - Cheaper flagship specs.
    You don't buy a OnePlus phone to have the very best camera available on the market or for gimmicks like wireless charging. Why bother with wireless charging when it's slower, and the dock is connected to a cable anyway. Why not just slot your phone onto the cable itself and enjoy much faster charging speed?
    The fact that the OnePlus 11 has decent cameras, 4 years android support and updates, AND it has monster performance and battery life/ charge speed is a game changer for me that separates it from the likes of the pixel 7. Batteries will degrade over time, but charging speed will remain consistent - the fact I can plug my OnePlus 8 into the charger and have it top up to nearly full in like 20 minutes is ridiculously good, I could never swap to a slower charge again.

On their site, or in the store, or both they should have 2 sections - 1 selfie lovers and 2 media watchers. The selfie lovers get a hole punch with the best selfie camera possible. The media watchers get a new improved UDC and may not use selfie at all. Come on, we don't all want a hole punch. Do this for the 12 and also please improve the charging speed to at least 80W.

I now need to buy a charging pad and if I'm not at home I have to be somewhere that has it........... It's a big deal for nothing. My 2018 Tesla has a spot to sit the phone and just plug into the cable, as of 2020 they added wireless charge and basically put a charge pad where the plug was literally the only difference was pushing down to connect the phone. This seems like a good enough phone.

It's the color composition in every phone camera shot! There's always a splash of blue visible in every one of these photos, along with at least one or two other colors... My pictures would never come out as well as many of these reviewers could manage, and it's because they're paying attention to detail that I didn't know was important for the longest time. If you don't have these colors included somewhere in your shots, then your photos will come out lifeless and colorless, as many of my food shots can attest.
