Grady was a great SUPPORTING character. Put him in the mix with Fred Sanford ... it works. Put him in the center of his own show and ... well, most people don't even know Grady had his own show, so you can finish the sentence.
I agree it's not that funny. The daughter is way too dramatic.

Grady and LaMont were the reasons I liked Sanford and Son and Fred Sanford once in awhile but Grady's iconic laugh would make me crack up every time I heard it

Anyone else noticed how Grady's family looked exactly like the family from the Cleveland Show, only thinner? Donna even said Rollo was named after the Sanford and Son character.

The set has a really similar layout to the Bunker residence. I'm sure it's no coincidence, and I'd love to hear the stories behind the set designs on Mr. Lear's various programs.

Actually, if you look at the kitchen, it is the same set later used in Soap. Burt and Mary Campbell's kitchen, which was slightly changed.
I didn't even know about this spinoff, hope it lasted at least 1 season 😁
Sadly it didn't even last one season usually the first season is about 13 episodes and this one only had 10 before it was canceled. Total bummer

Norman Lear should have got Quincy Jones, Curtis Mayfield or Gamble and Huff to produce the music for this show. I think the music probably turned the black viewers off.

This show looked like it could have had 4 seasons but NBC only aired one season of "Grady" & cancelled it in Early 1976 due to low ratings.
They need to put that show Grady on Antenna TV or Get TV
It made like 10 episodes.
And the shows "Sanford" and "Sanford Arms!"
There's not enough episodes to air it on there regularly.

Easy to see why this show didn't make it. Too forced, even for the seventies. Lear just mailed it in apparently. JMHO.
Grady was funnier when he was on Sanford and son. He was acting more like an old man here. He's a whole different persona talk in faster. In snappier, it is almost like he is a ham on this show. I think that's why the show never caught on. This is not the gradient we fell in love with
