I believe you can do so by applying plastic sheeting in bottom of the pond, however, you must also add water proofing powder to the concentrated cement/sand mix. Also ensure corners have concrete pillars and the middle of the pond is reinforced as he has explained. Ensure the mortar mixture is very concentrated with cement ( not like the one for building houses). Lastly, cure the newly constructed pond gradually to avoid cracks. This means pouring water on the structure like 3 times a day to ensure it does not dry too fast. Hope this helps.
