I didn't know or heard of Southern Marina Residences until IChang introduces it on their video. Such a prestitious Condo, beautiful. Now I am going to enquire about this property and pay a visit to their showroom and who knows might even purchase one for retirement in JB.
Always look forward to your videos. Love how you are changing the format and giving us surprises. Despite how you say you don't do sponsored food and travel videos...actually can be a good idea to do so...would love to see you guys reviewing holiday resorts and showing us more about where we can travel in Malaysia. I really don't mind watching your sponsored videos at all, in fact, I enjoyed this one very much for the different angles you inject into it that still feels very authentically iChang!
Yes it's Seri muka in Malaysia and called Puteri salat in Singapore. But Chinese will just call it kueh lapis both for Seri muka and the 'rainbow lapis' as well
Hai iChang & Jimmy. I and my family love to watching all your video. Love you guys in JB now. I also live in JB. We would like to take you guys to our kampung in small town in Johore and show you guys kampung vibe in johore. Can't wait to hear from you both soon.
The duo is back. I always love watching your video because of the quiet, relaxing and holiday vibe in your video. Thank you for making a video about Johor. I've never been to Johor, but I plan on spending my holiday in Johor at the end of this year. I hope you enjoy your time in Johor IChang & Jimmy
One hidden gem u haven't go where u guys can find the best Asam Pedas...the place is deep in a kampung near Puteri Harbour... at Kampung Seri Melayu,a seaside seafood restaurant where people from around Johor and Singapore will come to have lunch or dinner. U can also go for mangrove tour by boat there. It's a must try if you're still in JB.
Actually on the weekends, lots of families like to walk around Puteri Harbour especially during the night(a lot of events and concerts were also held in Puteri Harbour). A lot of new areas is opening up around Puteri Harbour so the place is getting more and more lively. I used to live in a townhouse about 10 minutes away, my friend and I would come here to hangout in a spot behind the building you guys were staying in. But after quarantine period was over, a lot of stores like Hard Rock Cafe etc opened up so it can't be a secret hangout spot anymore xD
Kuih lapis, also known as kuih bendera. Typically red white strips in color, but sometimes more colorful. (kuih lopes are other different kuih also) The other name of seri muka are kuih salat. This is Chinese outlet, probably the names are mixed up.
Welcome to my home city, Ichang n Jimmy. Enjoy the stay, but careful with the hot sun. Try our Asma Rojak, Soto Ayam, murtabak daging, mee siam and more goodies. U can go to Kempas and Kg Melayu as well.
Good job iChang-Jimmy....you are now property reviewers. Nice apartment in Iskandar Puteri. By the way, about the Seri Muka and Kuih Lapis...you are correct, the green custard and glutinous rice is Seri Muka, they just misplaced the label with kuih lapis.
Me as johorean approved that iskandar puteri/medini/puteri harbour are the great place to healing. I once tell my husband to move and settle down there as i love peaceful environment.
There are two version of mee siam.. the dry and wet mee siam... we use bean paste (tauchu) to cook mee siam.. as for normal bihoon, they don't put bean paste... It's good that you are back in JB... i miss my hometown...
I think the staff accidentally swap the tray between kueh lapis and seri muka because I can see the kueh lapis tray is actually right next to it - so the label becomes wrong. That happens sometimes in bakeries 😊
OMG... I always watch your videos from the UK, and now I am back to my hometown JB...then saw this video!!! I hope you guys are still in JB... wish to meet you two! Tun Aminah is my childhood place... I went to schools there...
since you guys are here in Johor, why not coming to Taman Negara Kukup Pontian, known as the most southern tip of mainland Asia and world heritage for one of the oldest mangrove forest remain in the world. also you could get in nice cheap boat ride around Pulau Kukup and fish breeding facilities around there. have fun around Johor!!
Hello both, I stay around Iskandar Puteri and go to Pasar & Coffee Club So sad, never bump into you! I love area, but very sad that UEM commercial spaces are poorly managed, unlike Senibong Cove that is fully occupied with good mixed of restaurants, cafes. Puteri Harbour does not look exclusive. One of the hotels is also empty now. I'll go and search for your JB video for eating places! Spice Grill definitely have yummy food and romantic for special occasion!
Welcome to Johore you guys muahhhh 🤍🤍🤍 Please visit those galleries and museums. If got time just go to the famous Desaru beach and Mersing just to experience another side of Southern atmosphere 🤍🤍🤍
Jimmy. Go find kuih JONGKONG and BOTOK BOTOK while you are in JB. Botok botok is best served with warm plain rice. Just rice and botok botok no other dishes.
Meehoon/mihun/beehoon is just the type of very thin rice noodles, if you see packed beehoon without any other info, it usually just means it's beehoon, fried with light and/or dark soy sauce (unless it's soup, then you'll see it as mihun sup/soup, etc). Mee siam is a specific meehoon dish.
This is what my aunt said - Mee siam is different from fried mee hoon. In mee siam, the mihun is fried with mung bean sprouts (taugeh) and chives (kucai) and then just before eating, the gravy, made of fermented soy bean paste and chili, is poured over it. it is served with some finely sliced omellete, red chillies and fried shallots. There are other versions of this, of course. Cheers.🙂
What a lovely vicarious visit at Southern Marina - great for a relaxing staycation... (11:56 😅iChang doing the neko kneading thingy, plus Jimmy's "sorry"😂. Chef's kiss!) If memory serves, last time you were in Johor, iChang 'cosplay'ed as a 'local girl'😋. Thanks for highlighting the comparison in JB/KL prices, guys (very handy for potential MM2H folks) [Pavlovian reaction: I can't see a hornbill now without thinking of a certain someone's flatulence 🤭! ]
ICHANG!!! You missed a fried durian spot just up the road from Min Corner and a Chee Cheong Fan store that serves wood ear fungus Chee Cheong Fan slightly before Min Corner!! Hope you had a great time in JB~!!!!
Excellent. Gives some very good ideas for holiday destinations. Are you both going to visit some of the small island resorts? Came to holiday this year to Malaysia. Fantastic! Coming again next year🥳🥳🥳
Meehoon 米粉 ( some call it beehoon in Hokkien 福建 dialect ) is Chinese version, usually fried with black soy sauce so itz darker in colour. Meesiam is Malay version where they add chili so itz spicier and redder.
I was with my 2 kids doing grocery shopping when out of the corner of my eye I saw iChang and Jimmy. We really wanted to say hello but we were too scared and we froze instead lol 🤣🤣🤣
@@skaenthusiast My reaction when I saw Siti Nurhaliza in a casual setting. I just want to greet her and be on my way but I'm too scared and freeze on the spot instead. Just like you said, I got starstruck 😂😂😂
Was laughing so loud.. when IChang ask Jimmy.. "u Wana try?".. I guess she means, u sure? It's a lot already. But as usual. Jimmy orders a lot. While IChang try to manage in bite sizes only... 😅
Yes you are correct the green and white kueh is called seri muka but i think maybe they put the seri muka in the container for kueh lapis, maybe they label one container as ' kueh lapis ' but they didnt replace the label when they put seri muka in there. Fun Fact: Johoreans and Singaporeans have a different ' special ' name for seri muka, we call it Kueh " Puteri Salat "
Yes! And I think the Kueh Salat is mainly what the Peranakans called it. However I prefer kueh talam with the coconut cream base rather than the rice as it is too filling.
The opposite Singapore side from Southern Marina is where Singapore arm forces do their live firing. Sometime at night you can hear explosion from artillery.
Ang ku kueh : in Hokkien, ang means red and ku means turtle. So it translates red turtle kueh 🐢 they are in red originally. Other colours are newer inventions
Wow! I’m a big fan,IChang & Jimmy! You guys make me want to visit Johor Bahru next month! Such a nice place at Southern Marina Residence 😱😱 what a view! ❤
Hi iChang, you must try this "Sorella Cafe" at Bukit Indah just nearby your area. They making nice cakes and desserts all from scratch. Must try especially their signature Kori lemon, icy and sour lemon tart and yeast fermented honeycomb waffle. 😋😋
I was born and raised in Muar, Johor. in the 80s, where I live, fried bihun is called Mee Siam. but the current generation no longer calls it that. they call it bihun goreng as it is commonly used throughout Malaysia. Only in Singapore it is still called Mee Siam. There is no difference between fried bihun and mee siam. Both dishes are the same.
There is a banana leaf restaurant at iskandar puteri at jalan eko botani called the Banana Leaf Kitchen. Pay the price of one and eat unlimited servings.

Beautiful apartment and the view from the living room. 😍
I Chang is correct. That is kuih seri muka. I think the staff do not know the name of Malay kuih
@xarifa777I think it is seri muka? But we know for sure It definitely isn’t kueh lapis though haha
I think the staff accidentally swap the tray between kueh lapis and seri muka because I can see the kueh lapis tray is actually right next to it - so the label becomes wrong. That happens sometimes in bakeries 😊
It’s a copy of Seri Muka and they shouldn’t have used the name Lapis. The label also show 青米 (green rice) which is Seri Muka
ya I agree@@frenzyfernzy3798
betul, salah label jer tu, tepi dia ada kuih lapis putih pink 😂
Welcome to my Town… thank you for the recommendations … normally I buy kueh from

after 18 years the place is still not populated, prices of properties are still too high even for foreigners.
We are waiting for you in Mersing Johor. wonderful experience for nature tourism

The area of the house is quite wide if compared to Kyosho Jutaku in Japan. Japanese government should look into regarding this.
