What are you saying is the car 3.5t and then you add 350kg TBW the car ( Y62 ) The car is now 3850kg , inc TBW it’s over by 350kg . You can’t load the car to its max 3.5T and the tow a Van of 3.5T the TBW will always put the car over GVM and you haven’t mentioned weight transfer from the front axle to the rear axle. I have a Y62 it’s very easy to exceed the rear axle max of 2030

Hi Ron , no what I am saying is if you go over a weigh bridge and don’t take Into account ball weight your van can be over weight.
When on a weigh bridge with van connected the tow ball weight is part of the vehicles gvm. In this example the vehicle is 3500 kg including the ball weight.
If your van and car both way 3500kg when connected on the weigh bridge your van is actually over weight as when you separate it from The vehicle the vans total weight would be 3850kg.
This isn’t a video about axel weights. I also own a y62 and a weigh station and weigh it after every mod so I am fully aware of y62 weights.
This video was not specify about the y62 but how people get into trouble with weights and not weighing correctly.

@@tjpauto Yes I understand all that but ppl could easily be confused by the way you explained it . If a vehicle has a GCM of 7T , lets use the Y62 for example , I don't see how it is possible to achieve 7T legally , Vehicle Max GVM is 3.5T and Max Tow ( ATM ) is 3.5T = 7T , there is no way you can connect them together the TBW will put the vehicle over GVM so a legal 7T , GCM is impossible . If you have TBW of 350kg the vehicle can not weigh more than 3150kg before the Van is connected , GCM is then 6650 kg and yeah then rear axle weight is very likely going to be a issue .

@@jackofjr I agree that it was a little confusingly presented/described. If you listen at the very early part of the video Tim says the car weighs 3500kg, so you'd assume that's static weight. Then briefly after this he says the Trailer Downball Weight, identified as 350kg is "part of the rear axle weight", of 1850kg. Quick maths shows that the addtion of the front and rear axle loads is 3500kg, as written. Therefore by deduction the car actually weighs 3150kg and NOT 3500kg static.
He defined the Down Ball Weight (let's call it DBW), but he should have defined and used the terms ATM(Aggregate Trailer Mass), and GTM(Gross Trailer Mass).
The ATM is the maximum weight of the trailer un-hitched and sitting on its jockey wheel.
The GTM is the maxiumum weight of the trailer over its axle(s) when hitched to the tow vehicle.
So the simple equation is ATM = DBW + GTM.
So the TWO key weights to be kept in check are:
      (1) Loaded Weight of Tow Vehicle + DBW
