  • The plaintiffs say they hired the defendant to cater their wedding, but it was a disaster and the food was inedible. They’re suing for a refund. The defendant says the plaintiff was a bridezilla. She says she delivered everything as expected and she’s not refunding anything.

      To be fair, while this is not even cooked at all (even blue steak would have a sear on the outside) and if I wanted my steaks rare, I would've been pissed as hell at whatever this here is, it's completely ok to eat raw beef. Unless US has fucked up health protocols and don't test meat that's send out to consumption. Can't speak on that.     This case demonstrates my motto;
    There is this side of the story, there is that side of the story, and the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
    The plaintiff stated the guests walked around saying "Hi" to each other for four hours, which was likely more like three, given they cut the cake and did the garter ceremony prior to eating, I find that difficult to believe.
    I know if my family was in attendance, someone would have done a 7-11 (And likely a supermarket) run, for crackers, fruit and juice etc. for the children, while my hubby & his brother Googled the nearest Mickey D's!
    In the defendants defense, I have been to more than one wedding, (Even helped cater at one) where members from one or both families were trapsing into the kitchen. Did that add to the timeline? Possibly, kind of like the 'Chicken & The Egg' at this point.
    I believe the plaintiffs should have done more research, budget wasn't mentioned that could have played a part as well. The defendant, as JM said, was over her head, and there seemed to be a lack of communication on both sides.
    Hope the concentration is more on the marriage now, best of luck to the happy 🥂 couple!

      @@marilynwillett804 Perhaps members of your family would be comfortable doing that, not all families have individuals that would walk into the kitchen where a hired caterer has been paid to prepare food for an event, and insert themselves into the situation.
      As for the parents feeding the children prior, I have had charge of not only our son, but other children in the family during a wedding, anniversary etc. and feeding them just prior to the ceremony is not always possible, and even if they do eat prior to, they are children. They burn off calories quickly, and in my experience tend to eat more frequently than adults.
      Plus an adult, unless they have a medical issue, can tolerate being hungry for a finite amount of time, most children cannot.
      Also, if we are to believe the plaintiffs, at least 3-4 hours went by with no food being served, but they likely would have been smelling the aromas from the kitchen. Personally, I always had a separate bag with snacks for our son, even through his teen years. Because I knew enough to understand these events rarely go as planned, but not everyone thinks that way.

Catering is WAY more work than anyone ever could imagine- it requires a huge amount of organization before, during and after. Lists? We had lists of our lists. My partner and I were completely prepared to step in for each other at every function. The actual cooking is about 1/3 of the job - there are so many things that needs to be anticipated that no one not feeding 100 people would ever think of. It’s not a business for rookies to train on the job. It’s all about word of mouth - we rarely advertised. I can’t understand why these people hired an ‘unknown”. My only sympathy is with people interrupting in the kitchen. Soooo aggravating.

    You could slap a bandaid on that steak and send it on its way. I’ve catered a wedding for 100 people on 3 days notice and have done military retirement ceremonies. You can serve wonderful, easy but elegant meals that can be prepped up to a day early, but should not be done earlier than that. I served two entrees: a steak and penne salad on arugula with a balsamic vinaigrette and Gorgonzola crumbles and the other main was a Mediterranean shrimp and pasta salad that was also served on arugula. Many of the components can be prepped ahead with the steaks cooked just before serving so they can rest and get to room temp. Both entrees were served cold as it was a summer, early evening wedding. For appetizers I did Roquefort and pistachio phyllo triangles and a Parma ham, goat cheese and caramelized onion phyllo triangles; then some really easy mini quiches. Make the mixes and your dough the day before, then assemble and bake day of. All of these can be plated and served warmed or served room temp. You don’t have to make it overly complicated.

If I remember correctly, the venue had warming ovens for quiches which were pre-cooked and just needed to be warmed to crisp the dough crusts.

    The "caterer" needed help and was completely overwhelmed. I feel for her as well as the plaintiff.

      I agree she wasn't capable of doing the event 😕 but I do not feel sorry for her (caterer)?! Only she knows what she is able to do 🤷‍♀️ and this poor couple was duped by her🤨.

      It sounds that way. There is a woman that has been catering our (small) parties at home, and I recommended her to cater a larger event. She was all excited but, unfortunately, it took her maybe 5 minutes into the event to realize she wasn’t able to cater such a big event. The food being served very late, undercooked steak, etc. all sound familiar!
