Exactly the same reaction as you. There are too many elements of the story that are just far fetched. What school allows the students to write and publish a school magazine completely unsupervised? Even the very first scene - what school would allow this kind of interrogation of students? And she was a math and gym teacher... but was this her only class? There were a few more crazy elements like this, and they all added up to undermine the world of the film - it just wasn't convincing. But my main problem with the film was it lacked character work. The main character was two dimensional and not particularly likeable. I wasn't invested in her story because she was simply boring. I ended up rooting for the other teachers, which I doubt was the film's intention. They could have done a lot more work on her character - given her some light and shade. Like you I found the writing confident, but lacking true subtlety. And the ending.... yeh I hated it!
