The comedic chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Christopher Marquette is through the roof. I laughed so hard at their antics, and I swear I lived out many of their attacks on each other with my own siblings. Too funny!
the point of the movie is to show that people change. Jamie was friends with Chris and didn't seem him that way in high school she only like jerks. 20 years later she meets the knew chris and she doesn't like him that why because he was being a jerk she now likes the good guys because she is an adult. a lot of teen girls like the bad boys but then they grow up and realize its the good guys that u can count on.
Then they realise the "bad boys" don't have much money, prospects, a future, anything to offer a girl and that they beat the girl up when she disagrees with them or changes her mind.
There are no good people period... Every person is basically a scumbag. No really.... Live your best life, treat others with dignity and respect, and maybe just maybe we all can meet someone we can all stand for 2 maybe 3 year's top. 😃👍
Classic!! And to the people who are saying the message was she only liked him because he got skinny doesn't really make sense. I mean yea it helped but she didn't fall for him until his personality went back to the old Chris. Plus they were in high school and she didn't view him as a bf. That's common. Deadpool is such a great actor.
@ultraofrahfan1 his personality is what she wasn't attracted to. That is why they were friends in the beginning. Being healthy, being rich , and having an abundance of women generally comes with certain personality traits that women are attracted to. Taking the leader/leadership Works on self improvement Has a great life without her, she is the bonus. He doesn't need her to complete his life because it should already be great. Puts too much pressure on her otherwise. Also if he is constantly tested by other men in the society she will see he has lower value. Example- pushing him over, calling him fat, not taking him serious. You can still be fat and respected among peers but it is harder of course. Women are attracted at first to physical appearance for emotional spike but then it is about alpha male traits which are more important.
this movie is so criminally underrated. I remember going to see this with my then girlfriend thinking it was going to be some doofy dopey romcom (and it is, don't get me wrong)... but also remember laughing my balls off. this movie has no business being as funny as it was. i recently went back to watch this a couple of weeks ago, and it still holds up.
Friendship with open feelings leads to relationships. Not changing your appearance. I know. When I was fat, I had put myself down and blamed my relationship problems on my size. I made myself feel out of place and so I came off as weird and insecure. I lost 60 lbs over the summer and when my Sophomore year started, no one could recognize me. I started out as arrogant, acting like I EARNED women but I got shallow relationships at best. I went from that weird guy to that asshole. I would rather be the weird one. I realized that life is not about the end goal of dating the most girls but enjoying the company of each person as an individual. Losing weight did take away my insecurities and gave me self confidence, but dont let that turn into arrogance.
To you will talk to me you will always look beautiful no matter which way you look baby you will look beautiful skinny gummy an a****** you will always look beautiful to me
We've all been there, my dude. The thing is: being a jerk only helps when lurking for stupid women. Real, decent ones never fall for that crap, and it's a downward spiral until you realize that.
If I looked like Ryan Reynolds after all these years, I would just take revenge on everyone who laughed at me at the time and then just look for another woman who really deserved me.
it always annoyed me that he ended up with Jamie. the whole movie she basically acted like she just wanted to be friends, and didn't take his feelings into consideration. Jamie should've just said "no, I don't like you that way." and he should have either stayed friends with her, or walked away. he could have found a much better woman, one he wasn't obsessed with for over 10 years. the ending was stupid, because they literally had no romantic chemistry and then all the sudden she wants to kiss him, and kisses him? Personally it just didn't make any sense to me. He had to lose weight for her to notice him, and then she wouldn't even just be honest. It was like watching a movie written by an angsty preteen who doesn't know anything about relationships. I love the character, he's such an appealing character, personality and looks wise. He could have done a lot better.
+Deirdre C Well...it is just Hollywood anyway. He was a bit wet. It wasn't the fact that he was fat, I think that she just didn't have reciprocal feeling. Then if she was into popular athletic guys then she wouldn't have much depth. There is a lot of self-loathing that sort is Ryan Rynold's schtick. If they had based it around him realiising that she was shallow and not worth the love he had then it would have been more interesting. It could have explained how her rejection had set him on his path. A deep self-loathing which led him to seeking the success in external things; enviable dream career, fast women, fast cars in order to fill the inside. In many ways the Jamie character had equal potential, a girl who was haughty and proud (an Estella Havisham) , who saw him beneath her. Shallow as well, being willing to play along and being used by others, on the porch by heartless crowd lying in wait to pouch at the cue. However her lack of 'success' in life and other setbacks( like her divorce from her high school footballer who ran off with a stripper), had peeled away her hardness of heart and made her humble and she was content living in the small town she had wanted to leave as much as him .However the movie played it very safe and by the book. Faris' character as the spoilt star is barely a foil by comparison.
+Deirdre C I have a friend I grew up with, who "sort of" became my girlfriend, but we inevitably parted ways, I miss her a lot and sometimes I can feel her missing me too. The feeling I get from that, is why the movie makes sense to me, and it's why I can totally accept how the movie ended. Can see your point too though.
+Rusty I hate all of you with the "just friend" girl. Partying ways or not it is always going to be between you and your next girlfriends and I honestly can't see the point of keeping yourself in a mutual friendzone. Keep her in the past or marry her.
'You're Hollywood... you date models. He's Jersey... he skis in his jeans.' 'Holy Mariah Carey! What the hell are you doing? This is a Pontiac Grand Prix!' The Clark character has some truly classic lines in this flick.
This should show men a clue if a girl feels that way about you ,she very comfortable around you like your her female best friend, she stay smiling and laughing with you no matter what, she enjoys being with you, she trusts you, she would pick you to be with out of most men, she do almost anything with you , stick around with all of this she loves you just don't know it yet. Its how you made her feel if a girl is ever like this with you deep down she loves you just didn't notice it yet. In the movie she missed him ever so much and there was a reason she never met anyone else. She was shocked and so happy to see him then memories of them came flooding back
Just Friends is a perfect example of how you can't rely on Rotten Tomatoes to judge a good comedy. They are good at intellectual drama, but fall short on what I consider Ryan Reynolds best comedy performance. He was truly himself in this picture, without the undo cuss words and the chemistry with every cast member showed in every scene.
It takes place during Christmas so i definitely consider it a Christmas movie. That's why he went home, the gifts, and the lights. I laugh so hard when he drives away from Amy's house, and all the lights get pulled off!
this movie was filmed in my dinky lil hometown and it’s so weird to see the locations i grew up just casually driving past in the film. also the house used for exteriors was apparently my english teacher’s.
Terrible trailer, great movie. These early 2000s trailers are hilarious. I was expecting "ROB SCHNEIDER PLAYS.... _'A CARROT'_ ... Rated P.G. THIR-TEEN" All I could think about were the South Park parodies
