- Here’s a blast from the past, a nameplate we thought we’d never see back in production - the Capri!
Only this Ford Capri isn’t how your dad might remember it. Because before, from the late 1960s through to the mid ‘80s, the Capri was a coupe, sort of Europe’s Ford Mustang.
And now? Well, it’s an SUV crossover. An electric one at that. And it’s not even really a Ford.

Legitimately just give it another name and bang no problem. Not an EV guy but looks fairly tidy. Not even a ford guy and it being called a capri make me feel ill 😂
Another cynical use of a popular name to sell a boring ev crossover.
Ford actually did the opposite with the Bronco, although they kinda did with the bronco sport, albeit that one is kinda more for sales, the other is a true resurrection of the Bronco. Chevrolet, on the other hand, slapped the blazer name on a boring crossover.

@@MuffinWRX as far as I am aware the Ford Capri ceased production in 1986. The sexy 90s coupe I was referring to was of course the Puma which is now also an SUV.

It's not just old people anger. I'm 20 and I'm angry. It's a VW (all of their electric cars are terrible) and it's not a Capri, it's just another electric blob.
Ehh Cupra Born is quite awesome. Other than their GTX versions. VW has a moronic desire to intentionally make their EVs slow, weak and bland. This is a horrible idea just to protect their ICE cars and it's not working.

It costs a lot of money to create a name from scratch. Frankly, If you're a legacy automaker and you don't dip into your archives, you're just stupid.

The tech is rapidly developing so they become outdated as quickly as laptops and smartphone.
And people are scared to spend money on a used car that has a big question mark surrounding a component that represents a third to half it's value: the battery.
EVs are still firmly in the early adaptor phase. You're spending a lot of money on something that will soon be available in an improved and cheaper version.
Ford destroying its iconic nameplates just to sell more SUVs... Absolutely disgraceful!

You can't convince anyone that the Capri was destined to be a shitty EV SUV.
If they want people to like the new Capri, they should've designed it in a way that actually resembles the Capri.
if they made it a smaller low slung 2+2 with modernized looks of the original capri it would've done better. better in the sense that now it has no point to even exist, sure this is cheaper to make since it's not making a new car at all but still it would make more sense.

This has nothing in common with the old capri.
You know what, I was indifferent about Puma name on a crossover. I was reserved about Mustang Mach-E name, as it didn’t need the Mustang part. But it turns out people calling out Ford from the beginning were right. Ford is having a laugh and deliberately trolling with names just turn brand’s fans away. Only people who care about Capri name won’t buy a 5-door EV liftback, so why use that name in the first place? Why trash the legacy?
Can’t wait for Ford’s next EV SUV, the GT40! As in, you will be sat 40” above the ground.
And later, they'll released a GT43 so Jeremy Clarkson can fit inside😂😂

Just like the Mustang it’s disappointing they used a good name for an SUV, but the new electric Ford blob seems good not a bit pricey. 368 mile range and inoffensive styling is not bad for a mass market electric family car

Ironically there is nothing youthful about this design, it looks like it was designed to appeal to people old who have no idea or care to know what a Capri was.
tbh it looks like a car for seniors with limited mobility who can't easily get in and out of cars. Low-down cars are young people's cars.

taurus lived on in usa as a 4 door family car for a long time so it would make far too much sense to use that name for a 4 door family car. still sold in china under that name but it's not like anyone in europe knows that.

because of the ev explorer. like. it's the same car. granted, that one is based on vw stuff too. now you might ask if that exists, why does this one need to exist at all? well ford figured out that if they made a slope in the back some people might think it's sporty. naming this the explorer ev fastback or something? would make far too much sense.
This car is a disgrace to the Capri name. The executives responsible for this should be ashamed.
After seeing how the original Capri looked, I think its safe to say that the golden age of car design has ended.

Besides my first thought was it has the look and Body of a VW iD4, I like the VW as its original. I don't like this car as it's stolen the legacy Capri name to hopefully boost sales. Ford's Designers are clearly out of good ideas 💡 🎉

Old people anger..? Ford have just created an electric suv that has some hugely vague styling cues based very loosly on a car that inspired and still inspires people to this day. Add to that they shoved the name on it to piggy back off it's classic name. They have caused general anger amongst many age generations... Ford should leave the old names well alone!
In the 1950s U.S., the Capri was a Lincoln, a chrome-trimmed land yacht.

The rear hatch of this monstrosity is so high, one could hide a real capri behind it. I hope this has a good backup-camera, otherwise i would be afraid to park behind it.
