Individual·ization, it is the process of becoming an individual (or in other words, orienting yourself around the fact that you are an individual). And an individual means to be indivisible, that is to say that You cannot feel or know anybody else's thoughts than your own, you are a unit by yourself. Individualization relates to institutionalization because institutionalization is the opposite of individualization. Institutionalization bases on social hierarchies, which means that you as an individual give up control to somebody else. Institutes themselves are not a big problem to individualization if they are the normal institutes we would think about, but when the institutes become your family or your friends, that is when it stands in the way of your individualization. Because, to make an institution (or make it act like one) of your family means to force your family members into rules that they have no say in. The same is true for friends. So when you seek individualization, you look at the social dynamics of those in your "inner circle" to figure out if you are able to be who you truly want to be around them. Which is the same as asking if you are allowed your personal space and can relax when you want to. Look at the words, the etymology of them, and it will explain a lot of what it is about.
