Not sure this is turbo, and reading this comments section it seems no one seems to know for sure either. Really confusing, but I think it's NA, it has waay too much of a howl for a turbo. You don't need a turbo to be competitive in GTE. Remember, the big thing with the new RSR is pushing the engine forward to make room for the larger 2016+ GTE diffuser, which wouldn't fit with the engine in the original location. If you figure that, then the side intakes in the fenders doesn't seem so odd. Also, not sure if the rules have changed (I remember the 458 caused this fuss) but remember Corvette ran the ZR1 as their GTE car once they moved out of GT1 - purely because the ZR1 had a few advantages over the Z06 for the regulations, namely that it was wider.
Thank You Lanky Turtle For always coming through with great videos! You cover IMSA better than their own site! Once again man Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's still NA since it doesn't make any of the usual turbocharged noises. It probably sounds different because each bank of cylinders probably has their own exhaust pipe.
Acceleration has always been good in Porsche. The new car is also good. Most importantly, the grip on the front tires looks good on the new car. I think this is related to the new positioning of the engine.
For me that sound is a combination of the old NA flat-six sound and the sound/pitch of the new Ford GT - so I'm guessing it's definitely turbo-charged in a similar way. It's not like Porsche has much choice, they need the torque and efficiency to stay competitive.
Do you know if the black one got silencers and the white one doesn't? Are they now turbocharged? Because they didn't sound like they were turbocharged and Porsche did not say wether they will use a turbocharged or a NA engine. Great cars anyway
Well... 2017 isn't over yet, but it doesn't look like it. At Silverstone, one of them burned down, and the other one finished 3rd. Last hour at Spa, it looks like 5th & 6th.
This is only a test. Somebody else in the comments suggested that the white one is an IMSA test car whereas the black one is a WEC test car and thus has mufflers on the exhaust.
MrCookieMonster no. what ? the two cars could be for LMGTE Pro or LMGTE Am, professional and amateur respectively. WEC is a championship with 4 classes, LMP1, LMP2, LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am. I think that they're definitely for the pro category, as GTE Am is not allowed to use the latestcar, only last year's one.
James Hancock True, at least there is a bit of variety engine wise in the GT classes. I find it hard to imagine a V12 atmo or a V8 turbo not challenging for overall victory. Maybe the rules will change to allow them once more!!
Nope, I was hoping to see the Ligier at Daytona today but it did not come out while I was there. They should be testing down here within the next couple weeks.
Why does it have "only" 470hp? I mean - the road going 911 GT3 RS has 500hp. Also the 911 GT3 R has 485hp. I thought the RSR is in a higher league than the GT3 R
Sorry... , when I said GT2 means GTE. But are you sure ? because FIAWEC GTE and IMSA GTLM are the same. On the movie seems to have some difference between black and white. That's why I'm guessing one is GT3 and other is GTE.
The GT3 R isn't being re-designed. These are both for GTE/GTLM. There are slight regulatory differences between the two, I imagine Porsche is trying to fit as much car as they can between the margins.
I still cannot believe Porsche was able to lobby to get their mid-engine car approved for GTLM. I am assuming it won't be allowed in FIA GT3 regs, but still. They dont have a road going 911 with this lay out, they shouldn't be able to race this.
The GT3 class spec car is the GT3 R still surely. This is the GT2/GTE/,whatever we want to call that class these days, contender. In which case it isn't pushing things much beyond previous precendences.
Jason zobkiw I was never a fan of manufacturers doing that, but it happens all the time. Corvette is using a complete bespoke engine, the old M3 Gt2 etc.
Look at the Ford GT and than complaining about the Porsche again. The GT3 and GTE cars getting more and more special and share less parts with a street car than ever before. Thats how it goes and thats why the series will be band in the future. Same story happend to group 5, group C, old DTM etc.
I hear ya, but why does history repeat itself? When I look at the ford GT, I see a mid engine 6 cyl twin turbo like the road car. I know the Vette's have a bespoke engine to satisfy the 5.5L max capacity rule (which is not the 6.2L in the road car), but the layout is the same. I am expecting Porsche to Dominate this year, until everyone else gets a waiver to do something different (BMW racing a non hybrid i8?), and the field is level again.
GT3 is the - old - customer racing class, established in 2005. The cars got much faster thanks to the manufacturer's interest in selling new racecars. With the soft technical regulations and BoP in place, big and aerodynamically well-balanced cars, like the Bentley or the BMW, are superior. With rising costs and no works team allowed, I suppose this series won't hold up for many years, GT4 may take its place. LMGTE is the works class. Since the gap between the customer GT3 cars and the works GTE cars was too small - and manufacturers wanted to prove new concepts - the 2016 regulations allow for greater modifications, e. g. changing the engine placement slightly. The Ford GT is a reverse-engineered GT car: It is obvious it was a racecar first, with street-legal examples sold to allow competition in GT racing (like Maserati did with the lovely MC12 back in 2004). The next Corvette may also be mid-engined. BoP is in full effect in LMGTE as well, so no manufacturer will dominate. Sadly, we will a lot of sandbagging in the races before Le Mans. This all being said, manufacturers are a big threat to any racing series. While it's nice to see big names in a series, their true motivation is publicity, and they are willing to ruin any series in the process: group 1, ITC, old GT1, possibly LMP1-H, etc.
Could we be looking at that rumored, yet unnamed mid engine Porsche model in disguise as the new gen Porsche 911 RSR, that was planned to sit above the 911 and too go against Ferrari, Lamborghini and other mid engine sport cars, h___ supposedly the next gen Porsche 911 will be able to support both rear engine and mid engine, looks like Porsche is running a prototype mid engine model at the racetrack
At the time of writing I though Porsche GT would go down the turbo route but realised I was wrong a couple of weeks later. Seem to have lots of pace after this weekend WEC practice.
I Gotta say, I love your Videos. I'm a big fan! I make compilation videos where I take clips from other videos add some information, do my own voiceover and then play music over them. I was just wondering if I could have your permission to use 20 seconds max of this video. Obviously, the link will be in the description and all credit will be rewarded to you. If you are not sure, check out my channel and read the description of my recent videos an see what I mean
Beautiful car, weird to see dual exhaust not coming out directly from the center though for a Porsche. Too bad their factory team drivers race like assholes, still rooting for anyone but them
Flat sixes will always be the best sixes.
NA flat sixes will always be better than turbos, but these definitly sound way better than the Ford GTs v6! Btw. love your videos!
Not sure this is turbo, and reading this comments section it seems no one seems to know for sure either. Really confusing, but I think it's NA, it has waay too much of a howl for a turbo. You don't need a turbo to be competitive in GTE.

Empty Box You are right. This is totally a NA
Empty Box from what I've heard is all porsches after 991 will have turbos. I think it was the smoking tire or "drive" that had an episode about this.
This one isn't turbo, thank goodness.
Reminds me of the porsches from Le Mans around 2000/2005. absolutely amazing sound
Exactly!
that sounds a lot like the 996 RSR! Huge difference when separating the pipes. I prefer standard 991 and 997 though
sounds like the 996 rsr, and it is AMAZING!
What a soundtrack!
You can always expect great things from Porsche, another beast is coming!!!!
Hearing race cars, especially Porsche race cars go through gears is one of the greatest things ever.
One of the best looking racers i've seen. stunning and it's bloody amazing.
Thank You Lanky Turtle For always coming through with great videos! You cover IMSA better than their own site! Once again man Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you sir for checking out my videos, I really appreciate it!
If you're at the 24 this year, stop by for a beer!
I would definitely be up for that!
I think it's still NA since it doesn't make any of the usual turbocharged noises. It probably sounds different because each bank of cylinders probably has their own exhaust pipe.
OH I Had a crisis just to listen those beautiful Porsches!!
Incredible sound to go with those looks!!
What a huge diffuser !
Acceleration has always been good in Porsche. The new car is also good. Most importantly, the grip on the front tires looks good on the new car. I think this is related to the new positioning of the engine.
You can see a little bit of the GT1 in the front. Great Video Turtle!
Definitely normally aspirated for me , and you guys what do you think ?
Unlikely,. Just very well turbocharged.
In fact those air intakes make me doubtful :) If there are turbochargers in that car it is, like you said, very well turbocharged !
MegaEvilsnake They need more power to deal with Ferrari and Ford. Turbos are the only way.
For me that sound is a combination of the old NA flat-six sound and the sound/pitch of the new Ford GT - so I'm guessing it's definitely turbo-charged in a similar way. It's not like Porsche has much choice, they need the torque and efficiency to stay competitive.
Side intakes suggest it's a turbo. the engine note also has the distinct whine of a turbo.
White car is NA & the black car seems to be muffled a bit more... maybe testing different engines?
The pops from the shift were crazy
Sweet video as always
Thanks yours too. I'll probably be out there on Tuesdays a lot if you're out there.
Lanky Turtle I will be but not this coming week, I'll be at SEMA in vegas.
Oh nice! I've never been to that but I do enjoy Las Vegas regardless.
I was hoping a DPI would be unveiled
That might happen at SEMA. I thought GM would be at Sebring with their new DPi this week, I was surprised to see Porsche.
Sounds great! Gonna miss the tone of the old N/A 911's a lot though even though these sound amazing! Great video :)
JA96 the engine of the 991.2 rsr is still N/A they just moved it to the front its mid engined now
They finally fixed it, it now sounds like last year's car!
ua-cam.com/video/cfL-jdkgIyQ/v-deo.html
Mid engine? :0
Yes! I think they'll be much much more competitive now
No, they just move forward a foot forward the engine, middle engine will be behind the seats
@@lmklogistics9717 It is a mid engine.....
They need to sell road going Porkers with this exact body shape. Beautiful and with such a fantastic sound. Heaven.....
Motor turbo en disposición central, se presentará en el salón de Los Angeles a finales de noviembre.
Do you know if the black one got silencers and the white one doesn't? Are they now turbocharged? Because they didn't sound like they were turbocharged and Porsche did not say wether they will use a turbocharged or a NA engine. Great cars anyway
thx a lot, top quality as usual thx LT !
0:40
something about high revving natural aspired flat 6 is just sexy.
that white Porsche is insane
beautiful sound. Remind me of the videos that I watch on Mega evil snake Channel.
2017 is Porsche year !!! Nobody will beat that beast
Well... 2017 isn't over yet, but it doesn't look like it. At Silverstone, one of them burned down, and the other one finished 3rd. Last hour at Spa, it looks like 5th & 6th.
is the white one the factory team and the black one customer car?
This is only a test. Somebody else in the comments suggested that the white one is an IMSA test car whereas the black one is a WEC test car and thus has mufflers on the exhaust.
What i was thinking to add to that idea is that they are seeing the sutble differences with other parts. i.e. the mirrors. its interesting
Air intakes on rear window and those exhaust pipes? Is the engine reversed/mid-engine?
its a mid engine
Weird how on the black/grey model they used a production mirror on the driver side and the lightweight aero mirror on the passenger side
This is the best Cayman ever!
Larz I was about to post that !
911 RSR ?
Cup series
Long live Porsche atmospheric engines!
Sweet is that the new Cayman
One person is a Corvette C7.R fan...can't think of any other reason someone would dislike this 😂
is the black one for ne WEC and the White GTLM?
MrCookieMonster no. what ? the two cars could be for LMGTE Pro or LMGTE Am, professional and amateur respectively. WEC is a championship with 4 classes, LMP1, LMP2, LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am. I think that they're definitely for the pro category, as GTE Am is not allowed to use the latestcar, only last year's one.
The Black is definitely WEC and white is IMSA. Can see the cats on the black (WEC) RSR and the white (IMSA) has straight pipes and way louder
Hands down, Porsche have always had the best sounding race cars! /BMW fanboy
What year we expecting hybrids in the GTE Pro class?! 2022 or before?
Not for a long while yet, especially looking at the state of affairs in the P1 Hybrid class at the moment and the vast cost that goes with it.
James Hancock True, at least there is a bit of variety engine wise in the GT classes. I find it hard to imagine a V12 atmo or a V8 turbo not challenging for overall victory. Maybe the rules will change to allow them once more!!
Well, i heard BMW will enter with the i8 next year.
Interesting to see they stuck with the naturally aspirated engine. Likely to help with development and reduce cost for now.
In other news, the GT350 was recalled
Loving the new Cayman! er... 911. Or whatever.
Best sounding mordern GT car
Doesn't sound like a turbo at all but nothing beats the N/A Flat 6 !
Estimated cost?
Good time to be a Porsche Werks driver.
Must be more than 510 hp?
was this richard liez ?
Flat sixes are naturally balanced.....less vibration.
que troca de marcha rápida é essa mano, puts*
NA or Turbo? So hard to tell, although I think sadly turbo.
Skyhunter well if it's a turbo it's simply great, definitely you shouldn't be sad :D
By the sound its clearly turbo.
Ahh well, NA still sounds better. I mean, for a turbo it's great, but they can't match the sounds of the NA engines!
Well I am impressed!
well for all you n/a lovers gtd porsches are still the same
already saw some "DPi" in tests here ??
Nope, I was hoping to see the Ligier at Daytona today but it did not come out while I was there. They should be testing down here within the next couple weeks.
black one has two different mirrors
Why does it have "only" 470hp? I mean - the road going 911 GT3 RS has 500hp. Also the 911 GT3 R has 485hp. I thought the RSR is in a higher league than the GT3 R
Sounds awesome
The white one sound a bit louder and higher pitch
hey there is a speed limit 35 sign 2:46. wtf porsche :-)
So hard to tell if NA v turbo.
Sounds turbo to me, but pretty good considering.
nwGTS it's no-turbo. Porsche already confirmed they are using an identical engine from their Cup car
Yeah, I wrote that comment a while ago.
Yeah. Wrote mine before the LA unveiling.
What do you have to do to be able to deserve to drive such a thing
In love
GT3 and GT2??? is that right?
nop both 911 991 GT3 RSR but one is for GTLM and one for Fia WEC GTE
Sorry... , when I said GT2 means GTE.
But are you sure ? because FIAWEC GTE and IMSA GTLM are the same. On the movie seems to have some difference between black and white. That's why I'm guessing one is GT3 and other is GTE.
for the GT3 its to loud maybe they test some exhaust systems or something else
The GT3 R isn't being re-designed. These are both for GTE/GTLM. There are slight regulatory differences between the two, I imagine Porsche is trying to fit as much car as they can between the margins.
Beautiful!

i wanna know who the drivers are..
Bergmeister and Bamber I believe.

Fuck me that sounded great. Definitely tops the GT3 R.
this sound ! ❤
looks like an assetto corsa replay )))
those shifts tho
best compliments..
That is diabolic.
its a normally aspirated for me
iRacing please
might sound a bit better then fordGT but its winning that matters great looking car
sounds so fucking great :D
mid engined?
no they just moved the engine a bit further to the middle. so not really mid engine. they had to make some room for the rear diffusor
Enzo Ardente i did some research, and the engine is in front of the rear axle. So I guess its classified as a mid engined car.
Keith Doran yeah I guess.
Turbocharged 100%. Sounds like the Ford GT's. After the turbo Fords and Ferrari's at Le Mans this year why would Porsche go any other way.
Got that one wrong didn't I!!!
King Greeny it is N/A
At the time of writing I though Porsche GT would go down the turbo route but realised I was wrong a couple of weeks later. Seem to have lots of pace after this weekend WEC practice.
They finally fixed the exhaust note, it now sounds like last year's car!
ua-cam.com/video/cfL-jdkgIyQ/v-deo.html
Good, sounds awesome. Now if Ferrari can just make the 488 sound like the 458.

Yeah that'd be ok
WUNDERBAR!!!!!!VIEL ADRENALIN!!!
im sorry but if it aint rear engine it aint a 911... just my opinion
Epic!!
Beautiful car, weird to see dual exhaust not coming out directly from the center though for a Porsche. Too bad their factory team drivers race like assholes, still rooting for anyone but them
Really?? Ppl disliked? I see nothing wrong with this video to require dislikes .
i like that
New mid engine RSR
Yes, the new 911 gt3 is a mid engine car.
RIP Ford GT
Looks awkwardly large.
sweet lol baby 6 month old jesus
MID ENGINE
Goodbye Ferrari
