    Hey everyone just letting you know the Tile Gen has had a little update to let you make stack prints really easly. Just increate the number of hte array modifier under the generator modifier: discord.com/channels/676780998586925066/1189564868504850493/1190654015210528820

      I just want to personally thank you!! I'm not sure how much time you have invested in the Multiboard project but it has to be a lot. I've just got done printing all the normal tiles and 15mm connectors for a 32"x51" tool wall. I put off the custom tiles until the end and honestly was dreading it. However after downloading Blender and spending about 15mins with this tutorial running on one screen and the tile generator on the other... anxiety gone!! Thanks again for making this so user (beginner) friendly. It's definitely worth $10 per month. Even after my projects are printed you can count on my continued support. This is one membership worth it's weight in gold!!

    This is an amazing project that has clearly had an exorbitant amount of time and work invested. I myself make a living from CAD and applaud the approach you’ve taken so anyone can download for free but pay for convenience or just to support. You’ve got to keep the lights on after all.
    You have my support and I look forward to organising my workstation and integrating with my existing gridfinity system.
    Excited to see the evolution of multi board 👍

    Perfect timing with this. I will be setting up my print station this weekend and will also be setting up a Painting/Soldering/Airbrushing station. Wanted to setup a pegboard there that could be adapted to whatever task I am performing. Being able to edit these tiles to fit the area where I want to mount them is the last piece of the puzzle.

    I'm so glad you used blender for this. Initially I 100% expected the "configuration generator" to be one of those silly parameter thingies in Fusion360 (meaning I wouldn't have been able to use it without a windows vm or an entire weekend of pain with lutris)

    • @NicosKaralis
      @NicosKaralis 6 місяців тому

      There are alternatives for fusion 360, Onshape is a great resource that you can use a browser to edit step files
      Blender is more focused on sculpting than CAD, can be done, but there are better tools. There is a reason why CAD softwares and step files are the standard for mechanical parts
      Step files are literally “step by step” instructions on the design process that every CAD software understands and the result is consistent across everywhere

    Is there a way to create panels with a straight border (basically filling in all the triangles around the corner)? I do think this could add to the aesthetics - and stability for standalone parts.

    • @RobertoMezquiaJr
      @RobertoMezquiaJr 4 місяці тому +1

      I was wondering the same thing. I want straight edges for mine because I'm mounting this in my garage between my workbench and cabinets. As is, there's about a 1/2" total gap that I would love to fill in straight to match the cabinets and workbench.

    • @Skorpeyon
      @Skorpeyon 3 місяці тому

      @@RobertoMezquiaJr I agree it would be a nice addition to this tool to allow for a straight "border" to be added. In the meantime, I would consider just taking to Tinkercad or something similar, drawing a square out the size and height of what you need to fill, then importing one of the standard files that matches the edge you want the fill to go around, then making the imported model into a hole. You may need to add additional holes to get rid of the dots from the center of the triangles. It shouldn't take too long or be too difficult, though, and you could then print that piece as filler for now.

    • @Keep-Making
      @Keep-Making  6 місяців тому +3

      No worries at all!
      Yup you can have as many as you want INSIDE of that mesh object. This of an object as a container that has Mesh geomatry inside of it.
      So select the cutting object > Press TAB (Your now in edit mode) > Then press (A) to select everything > then Shift+D to duplicate, that will instantly put you into a "move" operation so press x, y to constrain it to an axies and move it along that axies. Thne left click to confirm and you will not have 2 cubs inside of one mesh object.
      I know it's a little bit of cash but the Crash course is worth it if you want to get a pretty solid "quick" understanding of blender.

    Please don’t hate me, just hear me out
    I love the idea, loved the (possible) results, but hated the execution. It feels rushed, badly written (even though it’s still being written)
    First the design, where is the definitions? The dimensions? The rules for the community to build upon? Do we need to reverse engineer the objects to make our own holders and adapters? Or do we need to wait you build something I might need?
    Second documentation. I get it, it’s a brand new system, there are a lot of parts. But would it hurt to write why do you have so many identical objects? What’s the difference between them? You have several types for a single object, for example the brackets, you have 4 types and the same generic description “part of a larger project find out more on website”. Wouldn’t hurt to just say what’s the difference in the object description, you had the time to design and upload, might as well say what it is
    Third, blender? For dimension accurate parts? I don’t see it. Especially since there are so many other tools more popular in the community, fusion 360, Onshape, openscad, etc
    I’m not saying it can’t work, just feels dirty using blender when step files are so universal in this world
    Lastly, I see you are chasing a competition, that’s fine. But the feeling I get is that the volume is all you care. Feels weird man, maybe it’s just me.
    That being said, it is a nice looking system and hopefully gets adopted by the community. I’m building a filament storage based on a screenshot of your video to try it out and see if it works for me. I’ll admit, I’m a little lost and it might be the frustration coming out but please consider what I’m saying, at least the open-sourceness of the project if anything. You can’t be everywhere all at once all the time and if the community can’t build upon your system… what’s the point?

      Personally, I completely agree with this.. And I get that some people like to have a generator in blender, but it works barely, and as a standard I feel like it should be a parametrized cad model or similar!
      Was shocked when I didn't see any mentions of dimensions or definitions, guess I'll have to download one and reverse engineer it to make my own generator as I just don't want to use blender for this.

    • @NicosKaralis
      @NicosKaralis 5 місяців тому

      @@raremc1620 for the sake of transparency, I did subscribe to his thangs page, because I want this project to succeed and be a standard.
      The blender file is well made, meaning I can generate my own plates easily and (on my crappy machine) it’s very lightweight. But if you need special parts, like a custom bracket, or a specific conector, you’ll need to reverse engineer either the connector or the existing part you want to modify
      Luckily on printables there is a solution for plates already, it’s parametric and you can understand the dimensions quite easily , I’m not gonna post the link here because I’ve heard things I don’t want to be true, just search there and you’ll find a couple

      @raremc1620 5 місяців тому

      @@NicosKaralis Oh, I'm planning to subscribe too, just haven't yet :)
      It's a nice looking project overall, just the small details bother me.
      As for blender, my problem with the current implementation is that it's kinda only the beginnings of what you can do with it, the exclusion of zones isn't perfect, leaving floating parts, or parts that enter the exclusion zone.
      I'm going to check out the printables post though, that sounds quite nice.

      Zack Freedman uses Fusion360 for all projects. Meaning if you run an opensource system you can't even edit them. The point of Opensource is that it's easy to modify. Opensource does not mean it's free. That's not how it works. That's not how it ever worked. It's just a very common coincidence.
      Practically speaking, and for the long term sake of the community this Is way more "Open" than all of those guys who just dump a bunch of Fusion or solidworks files into a GitHub repository and call it a day.

      L take. you clearly have not contributed to opensource projects if you think that s definitional requirement for them is that they do not cost money.
      This is a very common misconception that arises from a shortcoming of the English language. Opensource is about "Libre", not "Gratis" (or how you may have heard the mantra "Free as in freedom, not free as in free beer"
      The point is that when you buy the thing, you are free to use it and modify it in any way, without restrictions. It just so happens that a lot of times it also costs 0$ but that is just a coincidence.

      @@andrewbeder51 When you make something opensource you can still claim is yours, you can still demand payment for it, the only stipulation is that the users, alright, USERS get full access to the internal workings, and all engineering data necessary to produce the end product. In code this usually refers to, well the bloody code. As in the source. You can have paid programs. That when you buy them give you a full copy of the source code. Which you are free to modify. And publish the modifications to existing USERS. nite that I said USERS, not all people with access to the internet. If in order to become a user you must pay, that is perfectly valid in terms of opensource.
      Closed source would be like the models made by Fab365.
      You but only the STLs, and for some you can only buy the gcode. This makes it way harder (in the first case) and impossible (in the second case) to modify them. Nonetheless you must buy them.
      If you buy them and publish them freely on the internet, on your printables or etc account whether opensource or not, that is a dickhead thing to do. And any decent human being will agree with me on this. It's because of people like you that we have the plague of software licenses and license validators.
      Fun fact, blender has a sizable market of free and paid 3rd party add-ons which you buy from developers directly (usually on gumroad) because the blender python API is interpreted, most of these add-ons are Open by necessity (it's just python code you download and put into blender) anyone can take the 40$ Hard-ops or MeshMachin3 addon and publish it on the internet. Nonetheless last time I checked you can't find them for free no matter on which page of Google results you go. Why ? Because as of yet, a single dickhead has not bought that add-on. People can be civilized, you know.
      But large companies sell products to a much wider range of people, which includes many dickheads. This is why all software made by large companies is a huge pain in the ass to set-up because of their licensing and DRM. it's also the same reason why those programs don't run on Linux. You can very easily emulate the application itself, but the license manager validator thingie looks for very specific details of your machine in the windows registry to attempt to fingerprint your exact machine into their database so that you can't install the same instance again on another machine. Usually this process fails in Linux and the installation is halted (even though the app itself would work)

    Im sorry but putting something like this behind a paywall is really a bad move. I will def be using this system but have no intention of supporting. It may be a great system that you put alot of work into but you really should have the base parts on printables and it really seems messed up not to release a step file or something. I get that you see it as "if you want a specific thing, then pay me" but its not really open source if you see it as YOUR product for YOU to monitize. The point of open source, at least to me, is to make something you love, that the community will buld on, change, and improve. You however, have NOT done that, instead you have made a system that you hope to simply profit from. You see this as "the more that is made for this, the more money i can make". If you really want to contribute, release the project to the public (in a not so half ass way) and setup a damn patreon that people who want to see you continue making these wonderful things, can support you with. And if you think that its bad to complain that things like the stack print and what not are behind the paywall but individual tiles are free to access, you are restricting those of us who simply dont know how to lift a part .2mm higher than the last in our slicer, and on top of that, you advertise how awesome it is, say its free and open source, and then leave us all disappointed that all we are really paying for is a fucking item placement. It is more annoying than anything and if i wern't concerned about your greed and takedown requests, i would just package the 3mf files i made and use for myself, and distribute it on printables. Fuck your paywall, but thanks for the design.

      Would like to add that making something like this generator a supporter only part, is understandable but really with the stacks? It is not like it took you that much work to move each one up by 6.7mm... at least, i would hope it wasnt that hard for you....

      I am semi confused by your comment. I get the idea about some of this stuff being behind a paywall and it being a bad move to you. But your comment on not releasing step files I don't get and half assed implementation on the open source part of it just doesn't make sense. Everything except the stacks, the tile gen, and the I think the prepacked mini multiboard are all on thangs for free directly linked from his website and has the option to download as step, stl, 3mf, etc. So other than the things he made for convenience to the users that want to pay for it, it is all open source. You can go and grab any of it drag the step file into your cad software of choice and build upon it. Nothing prevents anyone from doing that. Which also means that the stuff behind a pay wall for anyone who cares to learn how to do it can replicate it and if you don't want to learn then you pay for the convenience of someone doing it for you.
