    If you wanted to test how the tools work with an essentially unlimited battery capacity, why not pick up a 16,000mah (16Ah) 5S/6S hobby grade RC battery, and use a 3d printed adapter to adapt an AS150 (150A continuous current rated) to the tool. One of those should be pretty easy to adapt to any tool that any of the adapters work for, and you’d have a battery that could supply literally thousands of watts of power without breaking a sweat.
    This would also let you hook up a current measuring device so you could see how many watts an impact pulls from the battery, or even see how efficient things like drills and die grinders are by comparing the watts in vs the watts out. I think that would be extremely interesting. As a bonus, those hobby lipo packs (which is the same stuff all the tool manufacturers are using for their stacked pouch cell batteries, as far as I can tell) cost $200-$300 each, so it’s not really more expensive than the tool manufacturer ones, except the hobby grade ones would almost certainly pack more of a punch per dollar spent.

      @legros731 Рік тому +8

      Would work great
      but a 240 volt AC to 24 volt DC converter could do 3500watt at 145 amp and do it indefinitely can be set from 22volt up to 28volt for 1200$ us not cheap but not really expensive
      No charge time and will deliver constant voltage forever
      Battery don't last and RC battery are notorious to swell when pushed hard

    • @KaminKevCrew
      @KaminKevCrew Рік тому +6

      @@legros731 sure, but the battery setup I mentioned would be ~$250, and while hobby batteries can swell when being pushed hard, a 16,000mah pack having even 150A or so being pulled for 30+ seconds isn't really pushing that pack hard. Most of those packs are rated around 15C - which works out to a 240A continuous discharge rating.
      I've worked with those big packs a fair bit on heavy lift drones and they really don't puff all that often.
      That being said, I don't disagree that a power supply would probably be a superior solution for testing purposes. I just kind of want to build a battery setup like I described for my own purposes so I thought I'd suggest it.

    • @legros731
      @legros731 Рік тому +3

      @@KaminKevCrew I said it would work great but if you want repeatability for testing purposes ( the goal of this channel) being cost affordable is of no concern here
      A battery is not the best solution in this particular case but to actually use the tool to work with , your solution make way more sense and would beat pretty anything commercially available

    • @Mister_Brown
      @Mister_Brown Рік тому +2

      @@legros731 a big advantage of using a hobby pouch cell is you can use 100C rated packs so instead of 150A you get 1500A out of a 15AH setup which is basically unobtainable on a normal power supply unless you want to just use a massive welder as a psu.
      and for connectors you can just start using dins welder connectors

You would even have the ability to check the tools output at set power input (eg.: 100W test Milwaukee vs Makita).

I will stick with my electric drill with a plug that I have owned for over 42 years now and it still works like new. I will also continue to use my air tools, my impact wrench works as good today as it did when I bought it over 13 years ago as do my air drills, air hammer and air ratchets. I wonder if the flex pouch cell battery could charge with the adapter on a milwaukee charger? If i saw correctly the flex being 24v has cells in series and parallel so itd never be able to charge with a m18 charger.

    Is it possible to start do some teardowns on drills and battery packs? To show what manufacturer of batteries, motors etc. that are used making it easier to choose parts for repairs and diy upgrades and builds.
    Personally I have great experience with diy power tool batteries, since they are way cheaper and can often deliver more amps than regular batteries do to using higher discharge capacity cells. Finding the right 18650 or 21700 cells to use is fairly easy since they are so common. Finding the right pouch cell to use is much more challenging since such cells are not as common.

    It would be nice to see Milwaukee create some sort of flex volt system that allows them to start changing from their tried and true 18v lineup to a balls to the wall 24v lineup without destroying what they’ve already started

    Hi,the Ingersol Rand would be impressive to test with the the Flex batteries,and for that purpose probably most accessible would be an ebike brushless controller for suitable voltage (think 60Volts) and loads of amps,mounted underneath the IR impact wrench.
    Needs connecting the power,3 phase to motor,hall sensors from IR to ebike controller and trigger aka throttle to controller (possible a different one than stock IR trigger).
    Let me know your thoughts,I am not an electronics engineer but a bit of information help might add;think from 300K subscribers is possible to find someone with better knowledge to point you in the right direction.
    Wish you success and thanks for keeping up and updating.
    Hope the idea to be of help,
    IR motor should work fine with the increased voltage ,the brushless controller is the sensible part which burned-out.
    Changing that for a higher voltage rated one should do the trick although not as compact as stock IR controller.
