@@flappysquirrel5132 I like them when there's a 2nd story and in this case it did break up that crazy roof. IRL, a dormer in a roof like this one would provide light and ventilation I suppose.
@@ChrisJohnsonCJs-Kitchen Yeah in real life dormers are typically a great way to add in light, add dimension to the exterior, and also for gaining space in an upstairs. Depending on the house, even 1 dormer could add quite a lot of space. I think on here though the general idea was just getting more dimension on the exterior to help break up the roof. I really wish they'd provide light on the inside though..

I wanted a bath tub nowadays shower to take up more room and look better 🤷♀️ if you play with a kid or do the 100 baby challenge in that starter home you would need a bath tub

0:33 This style of houses is typical in Germany and central europe because they used to build it in cold places where was snowing a lot in winter, so the tall flat roof would not carry so much snow, also when it's in humid area (not hot climate and close to rivers etc.) they had no cellar/basement so they stored the grains and stuff under roof instead.
The hallway makes sense to me cause Windenburg is more of a European style if I'm not wrong (I'm German so im pretty sure I'm right lol) and we don't really do open floorplans. Even the front door leading into the living room isn't really what I'm used to at least, usually you walk into the hallway and every room is kinda on its own and separated

In the UK you either have a hallway or walk straight into the front room not really both. And hallways cost extra. Like better houses in better areas have hallways but cheap houses dont
Yeah! The only room in my house that is open is just dining + living + office together. All the bedrooms, laundry room, toilets, hallways & the kitchen are separated and I love it.
Video idea: every room is a different size (obvi) but what I mean is that you spin the wheel for the size of every room like for eg. you could get a 3x2 bedroom and a 10x8 bathroom
I have had a 3x2 bedroom 😂 in my homeless challenge, she had a bed and a minifridge with no door (just an open wall) and a shower outside 😅 I like to see my sims struggle

If anything, I watch that stuff more often. I don't like when youtubers, or streamers, start doing fan service.. as in they do things just because they know the fans like it. I prefer to see them doing whatever they feel like doing since there's a lot more energy in it. Like when Kayla's just renovating a place because she feels like it she's a lot happier and more positive. When she does a video because she feels she has to, you can feel that energy.. like she just doesn't want to be there and it becomes boring to watch.
Everyone has their sims build idea and here's mine: Architectural Digest has a youtube channel, and one of their biggest series is touring celebrity homes. Pick one and try to remake it in the sims. Easy mode Ned Fulmer, nightmare mode Dita Von Teese.

That's supposed to be the entire idea of starter homes honestly. The whole "EA builds are bad" thing is kinda stupid since that's quite literally supposed to be the point. If they gave you a beautiful perfect house you'd have no want to try and fix it or decorate it yourself. Plus it's unrealistic to expect a starter home to be extremely good without some kind of downside (like having a very small house).

Kayla, I love you, but every time you add a chimney and either don't include a fireplace or you put a fireplace in a different part of the build, you take a year off my life.

depends on where you live, man. completely open living room/dining room/kitchen spaces are the first thing you see when you walk into a home in hawai'i.
hallways have something to do with heating so somewhere in europe is more prone to have a ton of hallways whereas somewhere warmer like florida or hawai'i is more likely to have open floor plans to better regulate airflow and keep the house cool.
*Nods vigorously as someone who grew up in a 120 year old house* I also hate open kitchens there should at least be double doors... Open floor plan houses STINK like everything you've ever cooked in them it's so gross!!!! I live in the US but I really agree with that aspect of European home architecture, hallways are not a bad thing...
After reading the other comments from hot climates, ok I get that, that actually makes sense.... But I live really close to Canada and it's cold most of the year here so I hate that the open floor plan trend exists even where I live >_

Windenburg is objectively THE BEST Sims 4 world. So pretty and its the biggest, different areas.... It was ahead of its time lol!
I started a Sims family in one of my games in this house. The mom and dad had twin girls so I actually made the back bedroom into two smaller (equal sized ) rooms and moved the bathroom over and extended the hallway (which was prrr-fect for the kitty litterbox). I also added a dining room from the kitchen, a patio with a back door from the kitchen (which I expanded out a square) and even added a basement (with outside stairs access) that has a hangout room, exercise equipment (and downstairs shower for washing off after getting sweaty) and even a sound studio for one of the girls who became a musical talent after she grew up. They even have a garden area, hot tube, and pool in a covered patio on the side. I would share it with you to see but I don't know how to share a save file even though I follow you in Sims 4.
You can share a house with the Gallery, but you can't share a save file in game. You need to send it directly to someone via email for example :)

Loved it! And I feel your pain... Though I wish you'd made the bathroom and the parent's bedroom smaller too. They'd look a little less sad and allow you to buy a rug or else a tub combo so the bathroom won't be as empty lol. Oh, also could've sold the tile they used as a pathway... I THINK they did anyhow. If it's just terrain paint then nevermind. I've renovated this one a few times but never lived in it so it took me a minute to realize which one you were renovating. I swear I never remembered the roof being this tall... the dormer definitely helps! :D
No, that front walkway is definitely tile, she should've sold that and used terrain paint. I'm guessing she either didn't notice it or forgot?
@@BoredomBee Maybe she wanted to keep it? Although I hate how it doesn't line up with the off-the-lot walkway so using terrain paint to make it fade away would be a better compromise IMHO. Cheaper and might look better! I'm gonna guess she just forgot. :P :)

I get those ocular migraines too. Idk what causes them, but I've got some blue light glasses coming in the mail and I hope they help. I also think stress is a trigger for me, but idk. Hope you don't get them too often bc I know they are annoying and make it impossible to do anything for like 30 min at a time. Praying health and happiness for you!

I think this one's size actually (sort of) makes sense, especially as a starter house where people play who might not be into building at all .. e.g., sometimes I like not having to change the whole house just to add a bed or a second bathroom, so a bit of empty space can come in handy. I have played in that particular house and was glad my Sims had money left over to buy skill building items and room left over inside to place those, so I could renovate it properly with way higher budget after some weeks in game - instead of having to resort to frog hunting for money just to live in a slightly less weird house in the time I'd rather make my Sims meet new friends 🤣

the shape of this house is actually quite accurate for an old british house
Every residential bathroom I've been in around where I live has lighting just on the wall above the mirror. It's usually 2 or 4 lights and it's such weird lighting when people use the yellow bulbs. If it's white though, it looks really nice usually. I agree with Kayla though, lighting makes a major difference in any space. Having lights at the right angles, right colors, etc can completely change the feel of a space. Overhead lighting especially is very nice since it usuallly illuminates the entire room. The softer the lighting the better it looks, and feels, to me.

Ok, the tip about using two roof pieces to get rid of that overhang just changed my life. I have 900 hours in and most of it is building time, and I have never thought to do it that way. So much frustration could have been avoided had I just used a bit of common sense. Amazing. Thank you!

Omg in so glad I found this video!! I started my legacy family in this home and it’s been going through a lengthy, multi-part, and expensive renovation to fit my family’s needs. I used to hate building houses in The Sims before your videos but now I love it! I’d love to offer my house up once it’s done as content for you to absolutely tear it apart and critique the renovation! Now it’s a duplex with a total of five or six bedrooms. Definitely not a starter price, though 😅

This was the house my favorite family lived it back in the days I used alpha cc before my laptop broke and I lost EVERYTHING... I miss them
The exact same sim generated for me when i was playing last night (Australia time). I don't know how the random generator works but this suggests the game makes a new sim for anyone who logs in at the same time.

I bet putting some limits on the builds makes it more fun, especially when you have to build so many things, but I would really love to see a full blown build using like every pack, all the cheats and tricks, and just spend as much money as you want, even if it’s insane.

I watched this yesterday, went and found the house and tried to do the same thing that you did. It's hard... I was semi-successful, but like you said, they don't end up with a lot of art or stuff in the home on a $20K budget. I did some minor repositioning of things. I wish I could have provided them a better outdoor space, I focused more on the interior. Thankfully, one of the sims that live there is an artist - practice and patience and they will have some interior artwork in no time.

I literally was renovating this same house last night that one tile was just another moment of seriously who is supervision these builds . My eyes rolled so hard . Also my door was glitched so I'm surprised yours is totally fine because a lot of ppl have been having problems with that specific door since the new patch .

Ive never played the sims, but when I get it I will imediatly start with renovating every single house in basegame, and then I will move on to getting the packs and renovating all the houses.

With these rooms being so square and like obvious placement of furniture, it reminds me a lot of those prefab rooms you can plop down, especially the kitchen, but also the decor swatches gave me strong Sims 1 vibes for some reason.

Okay but why should EA have a “Content creators” pack where they literally just put like Kayla, vixella, James, and more in charge of making a singular lot each (in an overall theme, kinda like a challenge so it all turns out cohesive) and then they basically all have like the voter pack, but within their group of content creators. Lol just an idea. Then literally once the pack releases they can release their speed builds of the default homes, and it will be magical
Lottie Faith I agree, I just meant like the creators as a whole would get to choose the basis of the pack and what would be something that everyone would benefit from in their opinions and from what they hear from their viewers. Basically give them full reign on choosing a pack, and then use that basis to build the starting homes and lots

I feel you on the heat wave thing! Everytime I have to like double check I can see everything and my heart always drops. Those migraines legit scare me and I still burst into tears when they happen, and Ive had them on and off for 7 years now. T_T

a concept: build a house as if it’s sims 4 at launch (base game world, no pool, no basement, no debug, no move objects, base game only build/buy, etc)
She honestly saved all my future builds at 3:36, I HATE those roof overhangs jutting out of the side of the house. I have no idea why I didn't think to just use another roof
