  • HDD Drive to TV for Personal Videos and Photos shows how I use HDD drives to store and view my families home movies, vacations, birthdays, holidays, etc, on a HDD drive AND have the ability to view at the push of a button, anytime! This is the way to store and view your personal videos with your family! Simply label the folder and then tranfer the folder to the hard drive, and plug it into the tv. From there you are all set to watch the movies! Super easy to do and a ton of fun to watch the movies with the kiddos!.

    We use USB thumb drive a bit like a VHS here, 4 to 5 movies on a thumb drive or a tv series. I even put the name of the show on the drive . My mother love this.

    Excellent straight to the point video 👏🏻 do you know if this can work for ripped DVDs and if they have to be a specific video format to playback off an SSD?? Would greatly appreciate a response. Thank you in advance!

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  Рік тому +2

      It does work. The format will depend on what your TVs capabilities are. I ripped an entire season of Las Vegas years ago and it worked. On an older Samsung tv. But they are always changing capabilities, so you should be able to match a format from whatever software you rip with to the TV model.

    Could you do a video on how to do the same ie watch videos etc on the portable disk drive, from a Samsung Smart TV's One Connect Box? A flashdrive works OCB but not the portable disk drive. Thanks!

    Your video and ideas are great, thank you! Question, how would you share those home videos with others? I'd like my grown up kids to watch our old home videos, too. Thank you!

    • @FitsandFun

      I make copy everything from one hard drive to another. So I'll eventually have 4 external hard drives full of our family videos for all 3 kids and myself. So they'll be able to watch them on a Tv, laptop, store them in a cloud storage service, and tranfer any mp4 files to their personal devices if they'd like. This gives all kinds of options.

    Appreciate your video... I've yet to try this but wanted to ask-wondering if it's just obvious or I'm missing it-can you select all media and play or place everything in a single folder and play on loop?

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  2 місяці тому

      Yes, as long as the filenames are sequential. My samsung tv autoplays the next file. But I'm not sure if it'll restart in a loop after the final file plays.

      Check to see if your tv has the capabilities to play movies off from a hdd drive. Cheaper or older tvs may not be able to.

    my old samsung TV (dp-42840) only looks at jpeg's on the usb input. can you advise me on how to get an external HDD that has an HDMI output. I have 2 extra HDMI inputs on my TV. I'm hoping that it will recognize an .mp4 on the external HDD and play it, maybe even show a list of .mp4's.
    it is old, and not smart.

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  Рік тому

      Some Blu-ray players will read an hdd and you can play the mp4 files through that onto the older TV. I did that before my TVs could read them.

    I noticed that you had an HDMI cord hooked up to the hard drive and to your TV. When I went looking for the same hard drive (HD Easy Store) they only came with a USB, which I'm told will not carry the signal. Where'd you get a hard drive with HDMI?

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  Рік тому +1

      It wasn't an hdmi, it's a usb. The TV reads the hard drive from the usb.

      Never mind looked it up its possible to do it with a raspberry pi and kodi on an external HDD just need to see if the Tv will handle the 4k encoding because there's no way a raspberry pi will

      I use Davinci Resolve and Movavi. Davinci Resolve has a free version but is a bit difficult to learn. Movavi Video editor is super easy and user friendly, but it's between $50-80 usd.

    How to look at movies from external hard drive to ”not smart TV”?

    Can you do this same setup with an HDMI cable, rather than USB?

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  Рік тому +1

      I don't think so. A program needs to run the mp4 file to display it on the Tv. These programs are built into most tvs, so that's why the usb works.

      @@FitsandFun What if we used an HDMI to USB adaptor?

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  Рік тому +1

      I've never seen one, but I don't know how that would work. The TV input to play mp4s on the hdd drive is usb. Hdmi is just inputting a source, it doesn't read files.

    • @Wichozoni
      @Wichozoni Рік тому

      @@FitsandFun Thanks again for the responses. We're gonna run a different cable, rather than the HDMI. Another question. Our external drive has a USB C connection port. Would we be able to run photo slide shows and video from the external drive to the TV with a USB C to USB A Cable?

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  Рік тому

      You should be able to if your TV supports mp4 over usb. Which most do these days, unless it's an older tv, or an off brand that's really cheap.

    If the external drive is connected to the TV it keeps running even when one is watching TV only. Wouldn't the external drive get too hot and stop working??

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  5 місяців тому

      Mine hasn't. I've had a 4tb hooked to my tv for 6 years and it's still fine. I did make one backup just in case, but it's been fine. Infact I've never had one fail on any of my TVs, but I've had multiple external HDDs fail on my xbox.

    How to safely remove the HHD from the TV?

    • @minstrel.design
      @minstrel.design Рік тому

      Simply unplug it.
      If your TV has an option, usually in the Sources menu, to eject the external drive, you can do that first, but I've been using external drives of all sorts, from simple USB sticks to 4 TB Hard Disk Drives on multiple TV sets for years and it's been all working great by simply unplugging the drive.

  • @mrk1075
    @mrk1075 Рік тому

    So you don’t really need a SSD drive then? SSD drives are expensive. Also if you format the hard drive in NTFS then you can put video size of 5GBs and up.

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  Рік тому +1

      I've never used an SSD drive for this, but I bet ot would work great. But every hdd drive I've used has worked fine out of the box. But occasionally I make videos that are too large and/or too high of a bit rate to play smoothly. But that may be the TVs processor.
