  • The Central Bank as Crisis Manager focuses on how the world's central banks have confronted crisis after crisis in recent years-both before and since the global financial crisis. Yet many of these events seem to take central banks by surprise. In his new book, Patrick Honohan, former governor of the Central Bank of Ireland and nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute, draws on lessons from recent crises across four continents and calls on central banks to prepare for crisis management, a core activity to deal with the unexpected and avoid risks that could be costly for society.
Patrick Honohan presents his new book, followed by a discussion with Stephen Cecchetti, Rosen Family Chair in International Finance at Brandeis International Business School, and Ceyla Pazarbasioglu, director of the Strategy, Policy, and Review Department at the International Monetary Fund. Nicolas Véron, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute and host of the Financial Statements event series, moderates the discussion.
