The late Cathy Conn provided the stellar female vocal here -- she died in Evanston, Illinois, on July 4, 2018, at 73. God Bless Cathy may she RIP. Gone but never forgotten...

I might like your production end of this post as much as any in the fabulous collection that you've shared with us over the years. A perfect example of "The Atlanta Mafia", this time taking their act to the capital of Tennessee in a rare mobile operation. Brother Bill Lowery, Joe South, Ray Stevens, Buddy Buie....they had all come forth from the ashes of NRC (National Recording Corporation) in The Peach City to make Atlanta a "Happenin' Place" in the 1960s. Opening guitar bass lines provided by 1970 Grammy Award WinnerJoe South, while the orchestra arrangement and keyboards are provided by 1971 & '76 Grammy Award winner Ray Stevens. "Reach Out Of The Darkness" was recorded in Nashville and mastered at the Atlanta Studio.

It's great! May I ask precisely what enhancements you employed? For example, are there new instrumentation backing tracks and/or did you simply enhance the original from 1967? Seems the harmonies of Jim and Cathy are a bit clearer; maybe brighter. Also the guitar... Love your interpretation and work! Thank you!

The title of this video is “Reach Out of the Darkness . . ..” Yet, the female singer is clearly saying “Reach Out in the Darkness” and one of the screen photos (Collectables) depicts the 45 RPM record which shows the title of the song as “Reach Out in the Darkness.” Some of the other screen images (e.g., Verve record label and album cover) have "Reach Out of the Darkness." Why the difference?

I noticed something interesting while both listening to the song and watching the video. They sing the chorus "Reach out IN the darkness," but on most of the record labels it was written as "Reach Out OF the Darkness." Wonder which one is the official title of the song? Or if maybe I'm mishearing "of" as "in?" Either way, it's an awesome song! I've always loved it! ☮

    • @DavidLivneh

The title never appears as such in the recording, though the nine mentions of “Reach Out IN the Darkness” in the lyrics come close. The song is notable for its repeated opening line, "I think it's so groovy now that people are finally getting together."
