    very nice work man, but i wish to know if one of the functions of micarta its retain some texture proper from the fabric is made whit, how can a get that finis, maybe sanding no more than 220 or 360? tyvm!

    I now polish with diamond compound. For final finish on my handles I use my 1x42 belt grinder and take the platen off and use a slack belt up to 400 grit. After that I use a 100mm buffing wheel in my drill press at 800 rpm with 400 grit diamond compound and then I switch to 1500 grit diamond compound. By then the G10 is mirror polish, same for micarta, but I do a final 5000 diamond compound to really make it shine. The 400 diamond compound leaves a finish like 800 grit sandpaper so you can imagine what the finer grits do. Once I started using diamond compounds I have never gone back to using regular grease bar buffing compounds at high speed. So that's how I polish my handles Kyle.
    Don't forget my tip on having the grinders on a cart to take outside Kyle. Plus I use my shop vac blower side and blow all that dust outside. Really keeps my shop clean by grinding out on my patio.

      @Herbert Wingfield cuz I don't have any videos, don't have a camera.

      @Herbert Wingfield I should make one as I am one of the few knifemakers who uses diamond paste, but I can put a mirror polish on a knife in half the time and keep my sharp edges.

    Knives look great. I would like to see more of the process, when you do the forge and prep work for the handles. Really interesting to watch.

    Hi there, I'm using Micarta for the first time, what polish do you use?

    Those two knives turned out awesome. I just finished making my very first knives, one for myself and one for my son. I have some pictures on my Community section and a couple videos uploaded. Working on the final parts of the video on making them. Mine are not the quality yours are, but not to bad for a beginner. Took mine to my son yesterday and he just absolutely loves it. Really like watching knife making videos, shame you didn't get the heat treating process video. That was my major concern when I made my two, I didn't have a forge. I ended up using a charcoal chimney with lump charcoal a piece of pipe to the bottom of the chimney and an old hair dryer. Got the 1095 steel to non-magnetic and then some and quenched in 130 degree F vegetable oil. Again awesome video, two awesome knives that you finished and can't wait to see the next video on the two your making. Juddie - J & J TOA

      Awesome! Good for you on creating those knives for yourselves. I have found that heat treat doesn't have to be THAT precise, at least with a simpler high carbon steel. Get it to critical temperature, and quench. It should be brutally hard at that point. Then temper (bake) to reduce brittleness.

    Great video, but please be aware that surgical masks like the one you're wearing do not protect against anything as they're not particulate respirators. They're meant to prevent surgeons/dentists from contaminating the patient with saliva, etc. It's worth investing in either a reusable N95 or better (R95, R100, P100 etc), or you can buy disposable N95 masks if you find a style that fits you properly.
    P.S. Cheers from Ontario!

    What knife steel is this? Sorry I missed it

    I have pulled apart a pocket knife my father got from my mother when he started his first job from college. The pocket knife is missing the black inserts and was going to see if I could use antlers from the deer I shot to fit and mold into it but it’d be a stretch due to the shape of the scales area. I wouldn’t be against other options. Let me know if you have any ideas. It’s an imperial Ireland 2 pocket knife.
    I’m trying to find a formable material to adhere to the handle and it’s not an easy shape. I have pictures of the knife if it would help let me know if I can send them.
    My parents have both past and want to keep a sentimental piece of my fathers and bring it to life a bit. Let me know if you have ideas. Thanks!

      I didn’t mean to imply for you to give me one 😂 obviously I would have to contact edge pro. Considering how much I have purchased from them if they don’t offer me one for free I’m sure they’ll sell me one. I just meant I really like it!!!
