  • Join Jason Knight in his shop as he shows YOU how to shape a knife handle. He is working with a Forged Chopper out of 80CRV2; and fitting to it a Curly Maple handle with red G10 pins. Watch as he grinds, hand-sands, and rock tumbles the handle and blade. Jason finishes it up by applying some leather dye on the handle for that smooth, beautiful finish.

    I reallly really appreciate the fact that people like you excise in this world. People who are willing to put in there own time and resources on the internet for free to teach others and inspire others. Just like doctors, carpenters, welders, lawyers, musicians, chefs, officers, soldiers, activists, scholars, Artists, content creators, MOMS, DADS, BROTHERS, SISTERS, PETS, etc….. and many many more other profession’s it’s a long list. You people are amazing and really help out a lot of people who are stuck in a rut and don’t know what to do with their lives. Because you guys show case how cool and how successful and how powerful it is to be yourself in your own selective class. It’s really beautiful and helpful as a person who wants to get into knife making. But Mr Knight I think

    That went zero to a hundred so quick! I honestly didn't think it was going to look that much beautiful until the leather dye and stonewashed finish. Awesome work! Now I definitely have to go get myself a tumbler..

    Thats the thing about watching high skilled individuals, everything looks so easy. But its really, really hard. Love everything about that finish.

    Yeah, one of the things I find most difficult is making the scales symetrical on the knife.

    You can de-clog a sanding belt (or any sandpaper) by running a piece of natural rubber (other rubbers work quite well too) against it. It literally takes 1-2 seconds to completely clean up a belt sander like that. It's a common trick used by woodworkers and apparently by skate boarders (the top of the skateboard is essentially just sandpaper to help you get a grip with your feet).
    They're usually sold with search terms like "rubber sanding belt cleaner" or whatever.

    • @LastBastian
      @LastBastian Рік тому

      I have a rubber belt cleaner bar. It works to some extent, but I have found that it leaves rubber stuck in the belt.
      Not a huge deal if you're roughing out something, but leaves weird streaks on higher finishing grits.

    2 questions - who's the band at the end of the vid that closes things out. 2nd - what is the spray used on the blade to darken it?

    Beautiful knife, and handle. Have you ever tried burning in an oak handle with a torch then taking a wire brush to brush out the burnt parts between the grain? It turns out really nice, it creates valleys between the grain of the oak and raises the grain of the oak.

  • @masonfosterdiyguy
    @masonfosterdiyguy 2 роки тому +6

    What was the solution you sprayed on the knife that darkened it?? I’ve been trying to find something like that!

      I'd love to know too. Some form of gun bluing I assume. But some brands are better than others.
      Could also be ferric chloride (pbc etchant) I suppose, but I don't think that gets this dark.
