- When I was a kid, copying art was part of the fun in learning. When I got older and approached art in a more serious manner, learning to draw without reference became an important skill to aim for.
Teachers like Comic Pro Dave Ross are a great resource in developing that skill for ourselves. In this interview, he gives us some simple yet valuable points on how to get started on building that ability.

Interesting about drawing from imagination but for someone like me who can’t. Someone with aphantasia can’t “see” in there mind. I know what things look like, but when I close my eyes there’s nothing there. Frustrating as all be! Thanks
This is the exact reason I am looking up videos to try to help not just copy something :/

I have this book , its pretty great. Dave Finch videos are pretty good as well.
Nice
What does he mean on not cropping?
I think he means draw the whole figure don't let the panel cut off body parts
@@种道宏 oh that makes sense
It's fine to crop the figure, just not at the joints (such as elbows or knees), rather cut halfway throught the thigh or forearm.
Such an awe moment, the skillful use of light and shadow is truly commendable.
