Is it me or does anyone else wonder why all these “successful” online entrepreneurs look like they’re filming and living in a room tucked away in their parents’ basement? 😂

Thankyou so much for making this interview! I am incredibly passionate about building my newsletter atm and have found very little amounts of information (at least on youtube) about email newsletters as a business. This interview was extremely insightful and you asked all the right questions. Everytime matt would answer, I would think of something I wanted more detail on that he mentioned in that answer and you would go ahead and ask for clarity. Absolutely got so much value out of that. Keep up the amazing work😊

I must not be a typical person because if I subscribe to a newsletter and then get that many emails immediately I would quickly unsubscribe. Honestly, I am surprised people actually open and read these things. I am here so I can also learn how to do it, but in the process I'm realizing that most people must behave much differently than I do.

Actually, I think you are spot on. And I feel a lot of people think like you do (me included). So I guess it's just really an art form in itself. You really have to deliver something genuine with lots of value that people really want to read. You can't just try to sell stuff all the time. It needs to be tons of value and just a little bit of selling. But yes, it's easier said than done. I have started my newsletter like a month ago and I am curious to see how this will all develop :=)

I am the same way with most newsletters as well, but I was watching myself actually enjoy the ~5days of daily email after subbing to a newsletter that I ACTUALLY LIKED. At that moment something finally clicked and I think it was that I don't mind IF the newsletter's content is that much better, getting it more often is welcome.
The welcome series might also be a good way to filter out folks that aren't a great fit so you can avoid the carrying cost of subs who are unlikely to engage.

Matt is a really genuine guy - he lacks the super c*cky factor that so many guys on these types of interviews have. Loved listening to his gems 🔑

im not looking at monetizing substack at this point.
Have my original sub and launched a new Substack this month about films.
Im just seeing if the content attracts subscribers and go from there.

Is it just me or I just feel all these techniques being shared are in such bad taste and exploiting the user.
