How to Convert a Subaru Impreza GC GM GF Front End L WRX STI
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 жов 2024
- This video covers how to convert a Subaru Impreza GC front end. I share info about the bumper, headlights, grill, hood everything. There are many versions of the Subaru Impreza GC, GM, & GF chassis. I've been asked by several viewers how I updated Benji's look. In this video I list most of the parts and the steps to update the GC front end from an Impreza L to the RS style. I did not list the OEM hood part# because I did not purchase an OEM hood and did not want to list the incorrect part number. You will have to find the part you want (there are a lot of variations). Feel free to ask questions or post suggestions in the comment section.

Great video! Huge help for bodykit shopping for my 95 impreza L sedan
your energy is 11/10 kind sir :) and the way you share info is the same!
Thank you very much
I got a 2000 Impreza hatch and I wanna switch the jdm bumper for a rs bumper and headlights. And eventually put some sedan fenders on it just cuz. Thank you for the video!
Hi, thanks for watching! I believe a 2000 should already have the updated headlights. You will need to get the marker light housings for the bumper though.
I didn't know the sedan and wagons had different front fenders, what is the difference?
@@RyKingUploads yeah the previous owner had put new headlights so I’ll just try to get the rs signals. And I was referring to the wide body fenders I guess. However I’ve heard they can be pretty hard to install so that’s definitely further down on the list
Thank you I will give you an update when I get the car sadly o can’t get it yet due to school but in a couple months I will be able to get it👍🏽
Awesome Video, Thanks for the info ✌🏽
Thanks for the vid brodie planning on doing a rs facelift on my 97' L just gotta find a hood, do you know where i can get one that isn't $800? lmao
Your best bet to find a cheaper hood is probably a local Subaru group, Facebook/craigslist, or scrap yard. I have an extra cf hood if you're willing to pick it up from Vegas.
@@RyKingUploads thanks i'll try to find one and also i live in philly that drive would be extremely long lol
Thank you this video is very helpful!
I'm glad it was helpful, thanks for watching.
Hi, love the vid just have a question regarding the headlights. Will a 1995 Impreza headlight fit on a 93? To be exact the SpecD headlight and corner light? Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
An OEM 95 headlight should fit a 93 with no issues. I can't confirm fitment of aftermarket parts without trying them myself because quality can vary dramatically with third party parts. In general, a 95 part should fit a 93 no problem.
@@RyKingUploads okay I think I’ll try my luck just wanted confirmation from someone with actual part knowledge. Thanks for the quick reply!
As always very informative and helpful tutorial/video . Please do more bodywork vids!!
Thanks for the feedback and watching. I have very little experience in bodywork, but I definitely have plans to change that in 2021, and will share the experience. Is there anything in particular you want to see in terms of bodywork?
sooo if i wanted to change out a 1998 subaru impreza L coupe front bumper to a sti style, is this the right video for me?
For the most part. There are many variations of the classic Impreza front end. This covers the meat of the work. Headlight squirters, lip kit, and fog covers are things that are specific to the variations.
Awesome vid bro! I just got a '99 OBS and this is a huge help!! Keep up the good work!
Thanks
2:26 im not from the US so i don't understand why the pre 97 model bumpers are considered "JDM" ? The "RS" bumper literally the exact same as the JDM, WRX bumper (97-00)
In the U.S. we didn't get any of the turbo models. So before the rs came out there was only the "L" style bumper available. I labeled it "JDM" to differentiate the difference in signal housings (the U.S. never got the "sport" or "banana" style signals to my understanding, so using "sport or classic" may be confusing and doesn't apply to the U.S. market). I know many other countries did get the "sport" bumper styles, but not all. Also the sport or banana style was used on pre and post face lift variations of bumpers. I didn't want confuse people with all the variations available world wide.
What front Lip do you have? Looks great
Thanks! It's a random from eBay. It was a low cost gamble that paid off. I'll see if I can find the link and I'll post it asap.
I can't be sure this is the exact one because eBay only archives 3 years of purchases, but it looks like it.

Can you explain what the "Bumper impact Absorber" is for? Im having a hard time finding out what it does and if I need it. Thanks
I'm pretty sure that's the foam piece that goes between the bumper cover and the impact beam. Unfortunately some of the pictures on the Subaru parts site do not reflect the actual part. If you are on instagram msg me (link in the description) and I can send you a pic of a foam section for the rear bumper (have one laying in the garage).
Great video thanks !
Hey there! I’ve been trying to find out where I can buy a passenger airbag for my 95 Impreza. I checked the websites you provided but with no luck. Same goes for the local junkyards. Any additional info would be appreciated!
(Maybe you have an extra one somewhere you can sell me 👀)
Thanks for watching. Sourcing airbags outside of oems can be difficult because it's a major safety concern. Def wouldn't get one from a junk yard because those cars are exposed to all kinds of things and it could do more harm than good. My first check would be non performance sites like Subaru or rock Auto. If you just want to fill the space where the air bag would be, I believe some models had an extra compartment there instead of an airbag. It might take some internet digging to find the compartment though. Sorry, I do not keep airbags around either. Good luck on your project.
RyKing Uploads thanks for the response I’ll keep the search on 👍🏽
Does changing the front bumper beam from 93 to 99/2000 do we need to weld anything?
No welding required. Bolts right in with the original bolts.
Do you gotta do the facelift for the jam style bumper also?
If your jdm bumper has the large round fog light space you will most likely have to replace or modify the crash bar (if you're starting with an Impreza L). If you are just replacing the bumper you don't have to change the lights, grill, or hood.
I have a 1997 OBS. Can I leave the headlights and grille alone while converting to an RS beam with an RS bumper?
Yes, the headlights and grille don't need to change. The RS turn signal housings in the bumper are different from the obs.
The Impreza L bumper beam can be used. It just has to be chopped in half!
Yes, I've done it before on one of my cars, and It is absolutely miserable 😂😂😂. I wouldn't suggest it because it compromises the structural integrity of the bumper and could be a safety hazard. I don't want anyone getting hurt.
do you have to weld if chopping the beam ?
No welding, but you will need to seal the cut sections to prevent rusting. Cutting the bumper is more work than it is worth in my opinion.
You, sir, are doing gods work. Thank you!
Me have a gc8 my own is the 1996 that the green one me need lefthand head light
I've seen some on eBay and if there is a scrap yard near you id check that too.
Hood scoop is from a 2004? Or 2004 style made for gc?
2004 style made for a GC. It came with the hood, but Seibon sells it separate too. I still have my oem 04 scoop, but the bolt pattern is completely different.
hello. does anyone know a good retailer in europe that sells this kind of things?
what is that carbon fiber hood on the blue prefacelift at 0:03. is it a facelift bonnet? want to get a carbon fiber hood/ or hood scoop but want to keep the prefacelift.
That is a VIS hood, but I'm pretty sure it's a post facelift unit. I used the pre-facelift grille and cut & sanded it to make it less noticeable. If you dm me on instagram I can send you a clearer pic of the blue car.
I still have that hood btw. It's boxed, but you'd have to pic it up.

so for 1995 subaru impreza L i have to buy the rs beam before buying an aftermarket bumper
You can either buy the RS beam or cut the L one. I've done both and in my opinion buying the beam is the way to go. It's safer, cleaner, and faster.
thanks man! do you have ig im a bit new to the rs scene just fell in love with the chasis just got some questions man
Yes I do. If the link below doesn't work, there should be a link in the description of this video for all of my social media profiles.

Can the swap the front end of a legacy to a impreza
I don't know. Theoretically you can swap anything with anything with enough talent and work. I doubt that swap would be a bolt-on situation.
What site did you order these parts from?
A variety of sources. The bumper cover, bumper, grill, emblem, and fasteners are OEM from Subaru. Every dealer site has a link to their parts department or you can order straight from the Subaru warehouse. They do vary in price & availability so I suggest shopping around (holidays usually have free shipping). If you want non oem parts (like black headlights), you will have to make them from OEM parts or Google whatever style you want and make a wish list or spreadsheet and determine who you order from. When I get a chance I'll put a link in the description for some of the OEM dealers.
@@RyKingUploads thanks you're a legend
I've updated the description with links to OEM part dealers.
Where did you get the trunk carpet from
I purchased a length of "unbacked automotive carpet" on ebay.
why the hell do they not make modes for the 06 like ffs
OK see
dude this is the shit
Thanks
What's the part number for the oem vent/scoop hood?
I suggest going to the Subaru parts website and search for the hood scoop you are looking for (it will show the part # too).
@@RyKingUploads I tried, couldn't find any information on it.
I found a part number on the Subaru parts site: 90821FA070NN
But it looks like it's discontinued and not available for purchase from Subaru. There are plenty used ones online.
For future searches, use the model you want parts for. Example: for the hood scoop I searched, 1999>Impreza>2.5rs>exterior body>hood trim. The hood scoop was the first on the list.
Good luck with your build!
@@RyKingUploads ah that's suck, it's discontinued, but thank you for taking the time to find me the parts number. I'll still try to see if my local dealership can do something for me.
If you guys looking for rs bumper subaru dealers can order one my brother paid 250
