I listened to Noor Naga’s book while reading it, and I caught up faster than if I only read it. She narrated the woman’s voice as well, so it was a great experience. But I do wonder how my experience would have been different if I was lost on who’s reading etc. I loved that book!

this vid is amazing. you put easily an hour's worth of lit review in to less than 30 minutes. really enjoy how your reviews are so personal, but also so accessible. i mean, i've only read two of these books so far (autumn, and paradise rot), but feel like know them all now.

oh this such an excellent set of books! I haven't read/heard much about Noor Naga's book, but your discussion is of it has me interested, and I love how you talk about Second Place (ah, the things some of us put ourselves through to feel that we exist...)

Yes! Second Place was like a horror story….womanhood reliant on patriarchal validation…..scary

i read autumn last month and had similar feelings. i don’t know that i loved it but it was so hypnotizing that i just kept going. i’m planning on reading all 4 of the quartet with the seasons, so i’m interested to see if winter is any different.

They’re all suppose to be different stories right? I forget which one it is but I’m interested in the one where the son brings home a fake girlfriend….

@@batumanslittleidiot Yeah I think they're meant to be different! I'm curious if her writing style stays the same for all of them. That one sounds so interesting!! I'm excited to make my way through the seasons

one, i'm obsessed with your top! best dressed booktuber perhaps?
you've got me interested in reading noor naga's novel, it sounds really intriguing. also i think i might put off on reading ali smith's seasonal quartet a little longer. the concept seems really cool but idk haha it seems incredibly stream of consciousness-y in a way i don't think i'll enjoy

never heard of Naga's If an Egyptian Cannot Speak English but it sounds so intriguing so thx for the recommendation:) I just finished second place and really enjoyed the writing style and musings on art and womanhood but found the characters kind of awful? especially L except maybe Tony lol
btw red suits you so well!

Yes the characters did suck in second place! The man was truly a sinister wicked creature 😡

I thought the MC in second place was also a little insufferable but I could emphasize w her a lot more

Most of the footnotes in If An Egyptian Cannot Speak English explain nothing, they're purposefully wrong because the narrator is unreliable.

Yeah I loved that part as well! Such a strong way of messing with the trust of the reader to the narrator
