Brings back happy memories. I lived in Pembury but taught at Huntleys School TW and just after this date I was retiring and a year later school closed.
My favorite place from my favorite time. Thank you for posting yo UA-cam. Greetings from someone living in Australia, who still calls Royal Tunbridge Wells "Home".
Where you in Tunbridge Wells in 1997 by any chance 005 Agima. I am looking at a missing persons case from back then and would love to hear from any Australians who lived in T Wells at the time.
So this is what my home town looked like the year I was born. Not much has changed in 27 years except the old cinema being demolished and alot of the shops in the video aren't around anymore
Went there a few weeks ago. Lots of new shops now especially after some closed during and after the pandemic. Still very pretty once they sort the old cinema area out.
Brings back memories. I was brought up in Southborough.. Can remember going to the Essoldo cinema to see Elvis films. Also saw Adam Faith and Gene Vincent live. Another time, Susan Maughan, Jess Conrad and a few others. For those thinking who the hell are they.? Lol.. Big pop stars in the 60s up there with The Beatles and the like. Oh and in those days the stars didn't charge exorbitant prices. Saturday night dance as well above the cinema..
The Council are knocking down the rest to build a new town center with no shops, because all shopping can be done on the Industrial estate. The local Councils all over the country are out of control.
I want somebody rich to buy the Royal Opera House and kick Wetherspoons out. Their scruffy pub has no place there and they and their customers make it look untidy. They also smell. Not keen on the plans for the cinema site I think they should rebuild the old cinema 1930's style brick by brick and only screen old movies. Mt Pleasant road and upper Grosvenor Road should be blocked off and fully pedestrianized.

You did indeed....
Someone should make a film of how it is now ! Empty shops , ‘ new ‘ paving all breaking up etc for comparison!
Still looks the same 30 years later
And I love it that way
Most of the buildings completely look the same
Thanks for uploading this!

@@Holyspiritseeker777 no I meant I was born in T wells and I'm still here 37 years on.
@TheClassicalSymphony It is also "it's" rather than "its" but I'm not the kind of person to go pointing things like that out usually ;)

Great hall arcade is still empty, except for BBC Radio Kent!

My old town
My home
As far as I remember, it was a false alarm. But not 100% sure.
What was the name of the Italian restaurant that was there before Costa? Had a really nice curved glass window. Remember it from the 90s.
Where was the bandstand in Calverley Gardens...? I thought that had been there for ages until they knocked it down a few years ago!
+kdisley Yes i'd rather have seen that than them roses!
Back when tunbridge wells was nice :)
Tunbridge wells still amazing!
@@PoetiTradotti Nah, its a dump now. 2021.
@@globalpi001 why you say that?
@@globalpi001 nah it’s still nice. You’re just looking at the bad stuff so you have something to complain about
Wow the shopping centre had just been built
My home town...lovely video.

Great video, thanks for posting

Great episode of Fireman Sam
I was doing my GCSE's that year, at Tunbridge Wells grammar school for boys. I miss how nice T.Wells used to be. It's changed a lot, for the worse.
Still not as Chavy as the rest of Kent
No it hasn’t
@@zoee3296 If you say so.
Yes, thanks Henry - this is from just about exactly when me and my family left TW to live in the West country, so its a really nice memento. Cheers.
Just in time to watch Exeter City Council destroy what the Luftwaffe didn't manage.
Did you take any photos of videos of T Wells in the Summer of 1997 at all.

Why don't you do update video of tunbridge. And further around area.
Or a live stream one night
My partner would have been 24 then. Jo, a proud native of Royal Tunbridge Wells.
Look how quiet the Calverley park was back then not ram packed with people like it is now
1 year before I was born
no pitcher no party
Dead town now, even before Covid. So sad....
How come?
And now it’s boring, empty shops and Tunbridge Wells council doing their best to concrete over every green space

Tunbridge Wells 1992 is boring then as it is now in 2023, nothing changes much and nothing really exciting happens😒😵💫
