I have a super effective rule to motivate myself to cleaning: keep my surfaces and my floor empty. When you have to lift 100 things from the floor in order to clean, you won't find cleaning so much fun. I have a rug in my livingroom and a mat in the bathroom but otherwise nothing is on the floor. And I don't have trinkets or decorations on my furniture, just a couple of vases and bowls, so dusting doesn't seem so annoying. Since I decluttered, my home is so much cleaner

This applies online as well. It's very hard to cut down on time wasted on social media when you see their icons every time you open a new tab. Just remove these: you can always manually type in the address and it will be a more conscious decision when you do so.
That's one reason I stopped using the bookmarks tabs. Also set my browser start page as blank. I may have to go a step further and get ride of my history.

i'm not attracted one bit to junk food. maybe a luxurious piece of cake would get me.. but if i see chips or candy i don't feel the urge to eat them.. i know that they are not good for me so i avoid them without problems
@@frappalina Once you've stopped consuming them for a certain amount of time, your body assumes they aren't available and stops the visceral craving, you're left only with the psychological aspect. Edit: However, that doesn't apply to the transition period.
So true and im glad i already implement this. Never have unhealthy food or snacks available at home. Never drink soda. Dont have a tv. Some days i just find it hard to get myself off youtube and to study lol. But i do dopamine detox every morning (one hour no internet, etc) and it helps. On weekdays i wont watch youtube or movies until the evening after all my work is done. But today is sundayyy and im lazyyyy but i need to study for exams.. ugh
The crux of this is between the options; a) stay home and learn to cook the food on-hand, or b) drive 10 minutes to a fast food restaurant. My habit was to drive 10 minutes for fast food because it was easier even though the cupboards were stocked with plenty of food. So what I did was learned to cook small things; boiling noodles, cooking sauces, frying meat on skillet, and cooking vegetables. One lesson a day, one day at a time. Once I learned those things, I can now make the same foods I used to buy at fast food joints without having to pay outrageous prices to franchise owners, nor do I feel my only option is to drive into town and back just to eat a tasty meal. Tonight, I made a salad, diced some bell peppers over it, grilled some fresh chicken, cut up the pieces, put it in the salad, and topped it off with basel vinegrette and asiago cheese. The night before, I cooked ground turkey, rice spaghetti noodles, made a pasta sauce with freshly cut tomatoes, and garlic in a tomato paste with diced zucchini. Boiled some broccoli, lightly topped with shredded swiss cheese. Now I realize what I've been missing in life. Creating my own diet plan at home. _WAY_ BETTER.

When I was still in university, I adored candy and sugar as a whole. I've always been fit as I have a very active lifestyle so I wrote it off as not a big deal. I live with my family and my sister is a baker so she loves just making cakes, cookies, sweets and so on on the regular. Over time, my teeth had grown very sensitive to sugar. It's reached the point where I can't bite into a cookie without feeling discomfort for minutes. Dentists tell me my teeth are perfectly healthy and they might have just grown sensitive naturally but I can no longer look at sweets. In my eyes, sugar is just synonymous with pain. I live with a lady that cannot stop putting the most sugar filled options on display but I got lucky that I developed this condition. I don't miss sugar and am grateful for my teeth. I think this is applicable everywhere though. If we create a negative association with something we crave, we can forcefully break temptation, even if it is in plain sight. Just ask all the sushi lovers who can't look at sushi after having one case of food poisoning.
I watched a few of your videos, and every time there's a point that hit me directly in the face : you have such a beautiful life to be able to optimize your environment, and such other things. Some people just can't change their life that easily, because they are tied to bad things, and those tips, when applied, can't make their life better, if not worse.

I've been trying to implement this in my house for years and so far my main obsticle has been the rest of the family... Most of my work is translating these ideas to them, but mostly those who aren't on the same page resist change, think I'm being to harsh and and "not fun". I don't blame them, mostly I blame myself for not being better at choosing the healthier option in the fridge. I do think however that we could all benefit from doing this. Just not buying stuff that we have low resistence to - away from the eye is away from the mouth so to speak. In fact I've come to think that the only real device that I can't "eliminate" is my smartphone even though it often disrupts my attention, simply because I depend on it too much.
One day I read an answer on Quora to a question like "What are some productive life hacks?" which was: when you work on a computer, put your smartphone behind your screen so you can't see it. Best advice *ever*. You will be amazed by how much more focused you become in the next hours, especially if you put it on silent mode. Let me know how that works for you.
This channel offers up some great self improvement videos. I just started watching these, and am amazed at the content and sincereness of the advice given. I can tell by the voice that the guy doing these videos truly wants to help.
Doing only the right thing would have a counter effect. It would get boring eventually and you'd like to substitute it with another action. Balance is the key. It won't be the end if you occassionally (from time to time, rarely) eat sweets, watch TV or play a computer game. It would introduce diversity in your life, variety which would make things interesting for you.
You don't have to do only one right thing - you can do several different right things, like drinking water, juice, stum, milk and tea, which are all relatively healthy, instead of soda and coke. You may read books, play an instrument, meditate, watch educative contend and here and there some very good movies instead of endlessly watching things like Netflix series or anime.
I put my meals hanging over a bear trap the previous day, that way I kinda have to fight for my food and I don't overeat. This technique is the reason I do it
Where I would agree it's easier to make good choices when you're environment encourages good choices. People are not always in a position where they can create a healthier choice environment. I am living proof that you can indeed make "Good Choices" when your environment encourages bad choices. Back in 2003 or 2004 not sure which year, I stopped smoking. I lived in a house full of people who not only smoked they had no intention of stopping around me. My Brother in law in fact did everything he could to sabotage my efforts. He would try to get me to light a cigarette up for him in fact strongly suggesting it. With no one to defend my efforts I simply told him to light his own cigarette. He even admitted he was trying to sabotage my efforts. What it boiled down to for me in situations that I decided to make healthy choices in environments that don't support my choices was to. No1. Forgive myself if I mess up. Don't dwell on my mistake or use it as a excuse to give up. instead I would use it as a learning tool . From what I would learn I would develop tools for me to keep from messing up again. More often than not this would be mental tools, or tools take my mind off the undesired behavior. 2. When ending one habit I would develop new heather habits to replace them. I would try to pick habits I enjoy that fit my personality. 3 I would constantly remind myself why I'm making this change. Writing it down and placing it in areas in my home or ways to take it with me would help. What was the habit I developed to help me stop smoking in this environment. I started sucking on vitamin C lozenges and taking the wrapping from the lozenges folding it in a way to make a type of paper chain with it. As the chain grew longer I would realize how well I"m doing. My goal became to make that chain grow longer until I no longer needed the assistance of the lozenges. Before you ask, yes my Brother in law try to sabotage that by saying that I'm just getting addicted to these vitamin C lozenges and the sugar is bad for me I won't be able to break away from them. I choose not to listen to him. After all why would I take advice from someone who. no.1 just wants to see me fail, no 2. has more bad habits than I do. Yes, when in an environment that doesn't support your healthy choices sometimes you need to create a system that does and focus on it.
I find This video unrealistic in that it did not show Mike's wife coming home and yelling and screaming at him for getting rid of all the chocolate in the house.
If that's the problem, then you would also have to keep your wife invisible and replace her with a gym trainer. It's gonna be easy for you. I hope this helped you my brother. LOL.
since I have a girlfriend I dont get to workout anymore. I used to go on weekends. Like Saturday and sunday I would work out. Now she always wants to do something on these days. And then we go out and do some kind of activity and it usually ends at an restaurant we can afford, which means fast food. Gained so much because of her. But she gets mad at me, because she gained weight too.
I have my own method of avoiding sweets (trying to kick a sugar habit too) If you cannot avoid it like if your parent baked cookies for the whole family, therefore you can’t just throw them out, or you see everyone around you eating stuff you’re trying you restrict, pressuring you to get some. I repeat In my head that I would be so much healthier and happier if I didn’t have it (this is my ultimate goal with going off sugar processed) and Instead eat a fruit. I don’t really consider it willpower it’s just me repeating my goal in my head and meditating on the unhealthy impulse for a while. People who have a hard time controlling impulses rarely meditate on their actions and meditate on a healthier action instead

A big barrier to this is an unwillingness to 'waste food'. Mike would've been better off tipping the plate of cookies into a bin the moment he saw it. Logically, throwing them away is *less* wasteful than destroying them via digestion and creating unwanted fat on your waist. But it feels wrong.

when it came to abandoning unhealthy drinks for me it was just about finding a proper alternative, not getting rid of the unhealthy alternative. i first drank cola a lot, then i abandoned it over protein drinks and cacao, as i was pretty underweight. that helped stabilize my weight and made it possible to increase it. then i had to abandon drinking cacao which was the only thing i drank after that, then i switched to water. i could not drink water before because the ugly taste of cola stuck in the mouth ruined it. now i enjoy it more, and helps emphasize the taste of good meals instead. each time i switched out an unhealthy drink, that unhealthy drink stayed in my fridge for more than a week. never tempted to start drinking it again. what really mattered to me was whether or not i could take a few sips over several hours without the drink turning bad, like milk and juice would do. i also have a ridiculous long list of things i am allergic to, so lots of juice, tea, whatever has something plant based in them made me physically sick. it took several years before i came back to the most natural drink of them all, water. i drink nothing else than water, for a week now, and i have no second thoughts about it and no wish to start drinking something else. it just works the way i want it, does not matter if other unhealthy drinks work the same way. i can figure out whats best, no need for willpower. it just has to not get in the way of what i am currently doing, demanding too many refills or getting spoiled if i do not drink it fast enough. thats the real curse imo
This is great information, but I think that once the new habit is firmly in place, it becomes much easier to ignore the temptations. We do have willpower, but apparently it is finite and that is the issue here. Plus there are situations when one can't control one's immediate environment and success is still possible. None-the-less, this information is really helpful to me in working on forming new habits, so thanks!
I’m trying to eat healthy and cut down on sugar and processed food, but my mom keeps buying sweets and spreading them in the house. I was fine till she started buying my favorites too, I just couldn’t resist😔
Two possibilities... First, your mom forgot that you told her or doesn’t know that you’re trying to eat healthy. Second, you told her but she’s trying to sabotage you. If she suddenly started buying your favorites after you told her about your lifestyle change and she usually doesn’t get your favorite snacks, it’s probably her wanting you to fail. It’s actually pretty common for anyone you tell about a goal to do that. That’s why I don’t tell people anymore. I recommend keeping healthy snacks in your room (or your pocket) so your less likely to grab the snickers off the table.
Brandi ohh I think I should explain the situation more, as I don’t think she’s trying to sabotage me. I have 2 older siblings who don’t need to lose weight, and she mainly buys the snacks for them. She tries to not get my favorites but she ends up doing it because they like it. She’s trying to eat healthy too, but she feels it’s unfair to my siblings to cut out sweets from the house and expects me to have more self control I guess. I tried telling them to keep the snacks in their rooms instead of having them everywhere but it didn’t really work😪 Thanks for the recommendation tho! It’s a good idea to get some healthy snack and put them in my room so I can have them around me instead of the unhealthy ones.

Me too lol. I guess they mean potential though. Perhaps we could learn to better optimise our environment if we focused on that instead of wasting energy on willfully avoiding temptation. Maybe try one small step with the biggest consequence and enjoy the benefit for weeks before making another step. I think those apples might be mine.
Its so obvious that most people don't see it. Example: I couldn't quit smoking by always hanging out with people who still smoked. They just blew the smoke in my face and said, "You'll fail, everyone does". You gotta change your environment! !
I know he used the example of walking 2 miles to get soda, but I would say even driving to a gas station and paying extra is many levels harder (and less likely to be selected) than if it was right in your residence. The gas station soda is completely out of sight, so nothing in your environment is sparking you to drink it. You could try going an extra step (parking further away, putting your car keys in an inconvenient place) but at the end of the day if you want soda that badly that you still overcome all that and drink it regularly anyway (AND you actually have a strong desire to quit) you need external support from other people if you want to stop.
@@luminous6969 Being reliant on willpower to function is weak. You need to have purpose, and values. Those will push you through the tough times when your 'willpower' isn't there to comfort you.

Getting rid of the temptation also takes a lot of willpower. In order to break my gaming habit I had to delete all my games and throw away all of my old CDs. It brought tears to my eyes to throw them away. Since then I've gotten a promotion, started a side hustle, and started taking online tutorials. Definitely worth the effort

When I have some free time, I must reach for my phone. And then I have a choice: read book or play some stupid games. I've tried to remove games, but reinstalling them is extremely easy.

Atomic Habits was not completely original either. Good motivators always borrow content and re-word it in a way that might be more accessible to the average person. One idea, explained multiple ways....one is better understood by this person, the other version is better understood by another person. These ideas are as old as Aristotle and Socrates......just re-worked multiple times through multiple eras. The message getting out is the important thing.

delete apps like youtube and facebook, turn off notifications, and for apps you absolutely need but you usually waste time (like email), put them in a place on your home screen where you would have to swipe a lot of times, and put them in catagory folder things to make it harder. hope this helps :)
Also, if you don't want to go the all of nothing way by deleting mobile apps, if you use an Android and it's running on Android 10, there is a "Do not disturb" mode where you can set automatic rules and apps + notifications that you find distracting turn off while the mode is on. There's also a bedtime mode that makes everything on your phone black n white or grayscale. It's hard to find apps interesting without any colour. Just some hacks...
sometimes your environment is beyond your control, however excersizing the willpower and trying to research and understanding things on a deeper level really contributes to quitting a bad habit. you quit sweets if you develop diabetes, you quit smoking if you can't cycle up a hill without coughing up gack and felling like u gonna die cycing onna way to work. resisting a temptation is a skill you can master after the bad habit makes you sick. otherwise all of your life you are going to depend on secluding yourself from situations where you are exposed to the thing you are trying to quit. you can live in a house where everyone drinks, smokes, eats sweets all the time, watches tv, also takes drugs, and still quit all your bad habits. you don't need to move house if you can't afford to. your willpower is just like a muscle, and is trainable. speaking from experience. but you gotta have a lot of dedication for it. unfortunately, i still see people around me suffering greatly from their bad habbits everywhere I go...

I like your videos a lot, I tried some of the tips myself and they made my life easier. I can imagine that limiting temptions might be a solution in some cases, but what you suggest here can also lead to some kind of eating disorder: next time Mike buys the cookie, he will eat the whole box in 5 minutes, then feel ashamed for failing and buys more cookies and this goes on. And this time it will be harder to end this circle.

here some years ago a law was passed that forces fast food places(and all food places but in fast foods it has the biggest impact) to let you change your soda for water at no charge. ever since then i havent had soda when i do go to a fast food place. in the first month i lost like 5kg, doing no exercise and making no change to my crappy diet other than soda for water. the weight loss was so fast that i got scared and went to consult with a medic. there was nothing wrong with me, in fact i was on the upper limits of my ideal weight when i started exchanging soda for water. and after that i was significantly closer to the middle of my ideal weight. i do drink soda once in a while. when i eat pizza(which isnt often, but it's a really nice treat) i always drink coca cola. but other than that always water. i keep juice in the fridge in case i really crave something sweet, i drink a glass of pure juice(no sugar added), but that's also quite rare.

Sadly if your fridge, your food place only takes 2 step to reach.
The crux of this is between the options; a) stay home and learn to cook the food on-hand, or b) drive 10 minutes to a fast food restaurant.
My habit was to drive 10 minutes for fast food because it was easier even though the cupboards were stocked with plenty of food.
So what I did was learned to cook small things; boiling noodles, cooking sauces, frying meat on skillet, and cooking vegetables. One lesson a day, one day at a time. Once I learned those things, I can now make the same foods I used to buy at fast food joints without having to pay outrageous prices to franchise owners, nor do I feel my only option is to drive into town and back just to eat a tasty meal.
Tonight, I made a salad, diced some bell peppers over it, grilled some fresh chicken, cut up the pieces, put it in the salad, and topped it off with basel vinegrette and asiago cheese.
The night before, I cooked ground turkey, rice spaghetti noodles, made a pasta sauce with freshly cut tomatoes, and garlic in a tomato paste with diced zucchini. Boiled some broccoli, lightly topped with shredded swiss cheese.
Now I realize what I've been missing in life. Creating my own diet plan at home.

When I was still in university, I adored candy and sugar as a whole. I've always been fit as I have a very active lifestyle so I wrote it off as not a big deal. I live with my family and my sister is a baker so she loves just making cakes, cookies, sweets and so on on the regular. Over time, my teeth had grown very sensitive to sugar. It's reached the point where I can't bite into a cookie without feeling discomfort for minutes. Dentists tell me my teeth are perfectly healthy and they might have just grown sensitive naturally but I can no longer look at sweets. In my eyes, sugar is just synonymous with pain. I live with a lady that cannot stop putting the most sugar filled options on display but I got lucky that I developed this condition. I don't miss sugar and am grateful for my teeth. I think this is applicable everywhere though. If we create a negative association with something we crave, we can forcefully break temptation, even if it is in plain sight. Just ask all the sushi lovers who can't look at sushi after having one case of food poisoning.

I've been trying to implement this in my house for years and so far my main obsticle has been the rest of the family...
Most of my work is translating these ideas to them, but mostly those who aren't on the same page resist change, think I'm being to harsh and and "not fun". I don't blame them, mostly I blame myself for not being better at choosing the healthier option in the fridge. I do think however that we could all benefit from doing this. Just not buying stuff that we have low resistence to - away from the eye is away from the mouth so to speak.
In fact I've come to think that the only real device that I can't "eliminate" is my smartphone even though it often disrupts my attention, simply because I depend on it too much.
One day I read an answer on Quora to a question like "What are some productive life hacks?" which was: when you work on a computer, put your smartphone behind your screen so you can't see it. Best advice *ever*. You will be amazed by how much more focused you become in the next hours, especially if you put it on silent mode. Let me know how that works for you.

Doing only the right thing would have a counter effect. It would get boring eventually and you'd like to substitute it with another action. Balance is the key. It won't be the end if you occassionally (from time to time, rarely) eat sweets, watch TV or play a computer game. It would introduce diversity in your life, variety which would make things interesting for you.
You don't have to do only one right thing - you can do several different right things, like drinking water, juice, stum, milk and tea, which are all relatively healthy, instead of soda and coke. You may read books, play an instrument, meditate, watch educative contend and here and there some very good movies instead of endlessly watching things like Netflix series or anime.

Where I would agree it's easier to make good choices when you're environment encourages good choices. People are not always in a position where they can create a healthier choice environment. I am living proof that you can indeed make "Good Choices" when your environment encourages bad choices. Back in 2003 or 2004 not sure which year, I stopped smoking. I lived in a house full of people who not only smoked they had no intention of stopping around me. My Brother in law in fact did everything he could to sabotage my efforts. He would try to get me to light a cigarette up for him in fact strongly suggesting it. With no one to defend my efforts I simply told him to light his own cigarette. He even admitted he was trying to sabotage my efforts.
What it boiled down to for me in situations that I decided to make healthy choices in
environments that don't support my choices was to.
No1. Forgive myself if I mess up. Don't dwell on my mistake or use it as a excuse to give up. instead I would use it as a learning tool . From what I would learn I would develop tools for me to keep from messing up again. More often than not this would be mental tools, or tools take my mind off the undesired behavior.
2. When ending one habit I would develop new heather habits to replace them. I would try to pick habits I enjoy that fit my personality.
3 I would constantly remind myself why I'm making this change. Writing it down and placing it in areas in my home or ways to take it with me would help.
What was the habit I developed to help me stop smoking in this environment. I started sucking on vitamin C lozenges and taking the wrapping from the lozenges folding it in a way to make a type of paper chain with it. As the chain grew longer I would realize how well I"m doing. My goal became to make that chain grow longer until I no longer needed the assistance of the lozenges.
Before you ask, yes my Brother in law try to sabotage that by saying that I'm just getting addicted to these vitamin C lozenges and the sugar is bad for me I won't be able to break away from them. I choose not to listen to him. After all why would I take advice from someone who. no.1 just wants to see me fail, no 2. has more bad habits than I do.

I have my own method of avoiding sweets (trying to kick a sugar habit too) If you cannot avoid it like if your parent baked cookies for the whole family, therefore you can’t just throw them out, or you see everyone around you eating stuff you’re trying you restrict, pressuring you to get some. I repeat In my head that I would be so much healthier and happier if I didn’t have it (this is my ultimate goal with going off sugar processed) and Instead eat a fruit. I don’t really consider it willpower it’s just me repeating my goal in my head and meditating on the unhealthy impulse for a while. People who have a hard time controlling impulses rarely meditate on their actions and meditate on a healthier action instead

A big barrier to this is an unwillingness to 'waste food'. Mike would've been better off tipping the plate of cookies into a bin the moment he saw it. Logically, throwing them away is *less* wasteful than destroying them via digestion and creating unwanted fat on your waist. But it feels wrong.

when it came to abandoning unhealthy drinks for me it was just about finding a proper alternative, not getting rid of the unhealthy alternative. i first drank cola a lot, then i abandoned it over protein drinks and cacao, as i was pretty underweight. that helped stabilize my weight and made it possible to increase it. then i had to abandon drinking cacao which was the only thing i drank after that, then i switched to water. i could not drink water before because the ugly taste of cola stuck in the mouth ruined it. now i enjoy it more, and helps emphasize the taste of good meals instead.
each time i switched out an unhealthy drink, that unhealthy drink stayed in my fridge for more than a week. never tempted to start drinking it again. what really mattered to me was whether or not i could take a few sips over several hours without the drink turning bad, like milk and juice would do. i also have a ridiculous long list of things i am allergic to, so lots of juice, tea, whatever has something plant based in them made me physically sick. it took several years before i came back to the most natural drink of them all, water. i drink nothing else than water, for a week now, and i have no second thoughts about it and no wish to start drinking something else. it just works the way i want it, does not matter if other unhealthy drinks work the same way. i can figure out whats best, no need for willpower. it just has to not get in the way of what i am currently doing, demanding too many refills or getting spoiled if i do not drink it fast enough. thats the real curse imo

This is great information, but I think that once the new habit is firmly in place, it becomes much easier to ignore the temptations. We do have willpower, but apparently it is finite and that is the issue here. Plus there are situations when one can't control one's immediate environment and success is still possible. None-the-less, this information is really helpful to me in working on forming new habits, so thanks!

Two possibilities... First, your mom forgot that you told her or doesn’t know that you’re trying to eat healthy. Second, you told her but she’s trying to sabotage you. If she suddenly started buying your favorites after you told her about your lifestyle change and she usually doesn’t get your favorite snacks, it’s probably her wanting you to fail. It’s actually pretty common for anyone you tell about a goal to do that. That’s why I don’t tell people anymore. I recommend keeping healthy snacks in your room (or your pocket) so your less likely to grab the snickers off the table.
Brandi ohh I think I should explain the situation more, as I don’t think she’s trying to sabotage me. I have 2 older siblings who don’t need to lose weight, and she mainly buys the snacks for them. She tries to not get my favorites but she ends up doing it because they like it. She’s trying to eat healthy too, but she feels it’s unfair to my siblings to cut out sweets from the house and expects me to have more self control I guess. I tried telling them to keep the snacks in their rooms instead of having them everywhere but it didn’t really work😪

Its so obvious that most people don't see it. Example: I couldn't quit smoking by always hanging out with people who still smoked. They just blew the smoke in my face and said, "You'll fail, everyone does". You gotta change your environment! !
But when you're an adult, you can just hop in the car and drive to a gas station and buy whatever you want when your willpower runs out.
Key word, "adult", you should(!) have more willpower after all.
But the video is for adults who run out of willpower. Saying that they should just have more willpower isn't helpful advice.
I know he used the example of walking 2 miles to get soda, but I would say even driving to a gas station and paying extra is many levels harder (and less likely to be selected) than if it was right in your residence. The gas station soda is completely out of sight, so nothing in your environment is sparking you to drink it. You could try going an extra step (parking further away, putting your car keys in an inconvenient place) but at the end of the day if you want soda that badly that you still overcome all that and drink it regularly anyway (AND you actually have a strong desire to quit) you need external support from other people if you want to stop.

Getting rid of the temptation also takes a lot of willpower. In order to break my gaming habit I had to delete all my games and throw away all of my old CDs. It brought tears to my eyes to throw them away.
Since then I've gotten a promotion, started a side hustle, and started taking online tutorials. Definitely worth the effort

Atomic Habits was not completely original either. Good motivators always borrow content and re-word it in a way that might be more accessible to the average person. One idea, explained multiple ways....one is better understood by this person, the other version is better understood by another person. These ideas are as old as Aristotle and Socrates......just re-worked multiple times through multiple eras. The message getting out is the important thing.

delete apps like youtube and facebook, turn off notifications, and for apps you absolutely need but you usually waste time (like email), put them in a place on your home screen where you would have to swipe a lot of times, and put them in catagory folder things to make it harder. hope this helps :)
Also, if you don't want to go the all of nothing way by deleting mobile apps, if you use an Android and it's running on Android 10, there is a "Do not disturb" mode where you can set automatic rules and apps + notifications that you find distracting turn off while the mode is on. There's also a bedtime mode that makes everything on your phone black n white or grayscale. It's hard to find apps interesting without any colour. Just some hacks...
sometimes your environment is beyond your control, however excersizing the willpower and trying to research and understanding things on a deeper level really contributes to quitting a bad habit. you quit sweets if you develop diabetes, you quit smoking if you can't cycle up a hill without coughing up gack and felling like u gonna die cycing onna way to work. resisting a temptation is a skill you can master after the bad habit makes you sick. otherwise all of your life you are going to depend on secluding yourself from situations where you are exposed to the thing you are trying to quit. you can live in a house where everyone drinks, smokes, eats sweets all the time, watches tv, also takes drugs, and still quit all your bad habits. you don't need to move house if you can't afford to. your willpower is just like a muscle, and is trainable. speaking from experience. but you gotta have a lot of dedication for it. unfortunately, i still see people around me suffering greatly from their bad habbits everywhere I go...

I like your videos a lot, I tried some of the tips myself and they made my life easier. I can imagine that limiting temptions might be a solution in some cases, but what you suggest here can also lead to some kind of eating disorder: next time Mike buys the cookie, he will eat the whole box in 5 minutes, then feel ashamed for failing and buys more cookies and this goes on. And this time it will be harder to end this circle.

here some years ago a law was passed that forces fast food places(and all food places but in fast foods it has the biggest impact) to let you change your soda for water at no charge.
ever since then i havent had soda when i do go to a fast food place.
in the first month i lost like 5kg, doing no exercise and making no change to my crappy diet other than soda for water.
the weight loss was so fast that i got scared and went to consult with a medic. there was nothing wrong with me, in fact i was on the upper limits of my ideal weight when i started exchanging soda for water. and after that i was significantly closer to the middle of my ideal weight.
i do drink soda once in a while. when i eat pizza(which isnt often, but it's a really nice treat) i always drink coca cola.
but other than that always water.
i keep juice in the fridge in case i really crave something sweet, i drink a glass of pure juice(no sugar added), but that's also quite rare.
This was great. I'm going to take some of these tips .Now im hoping Mike gets that dislocated shoulder under control.
