- "Rare Fish Island" or "Big Fish Island" in Animal Crossing New Horizon. It might look like a regular mystery island, but this island holds a secret. It actually only has big fish and rare fish are very common here. You can find one at clifftops, river mouth, see, etc.
I actually didn't pay attention to it, until realized that it looks weird that only big shadows of fish are in the water, then I realized that this is a special island.
I was able to catch fish like Tuna, Oarfish, Coelacanth, and Sturgeon, but not just a few, but come home full of those. The value of all those fish is 430,000 bells, much better than Tarantula island, which I tried as well, and it's super fun if you enjoy fishing like myself.

Sometimes you can get a island design like this but it doesnt have to be all large fish. You can get a large fish island with a different design. Hopefully you didnt pass up a big fish island

I was watching this while catching fish and I randomly caught a coelacanth. Now that is an epic gamer moment.

I found one and caught 6 coelocanths, 3 Arawanas, 2 arapaimas, a barreleye (tiny fish!), multiple sharks, a dorado, 2 trevallys, and a napoleon fish... my husband was getting irritated... by the time I gave blathers the new fish, i had over 200,000 bells from selling the balance.... what an awesome island.

@@SpookyFairy You should've looken in the rivers! The fish in there can be worth as much as 22,500 each!
Some tips: you can scare the "smaller" fish so the rare ones have a chance to spawn again. I used like 4 fishing rods but if you just focus on the big-shadow ones you might be good with less. Don't run near the water, as you can scare the rare fish if you see them.
Make sure you recognize the island so you know this is the one when you get there. If you see small fish, it's probably not it.
If you can upgrade your inventory space, do that. I did it today this morning before getting to the island, so lucky. I wouldn't otherwise has so much space (10+ more).
I also recommend making the fishing rods ahead of time, get materials from the rocks and trees and make like 3-4 fishing rods and drop them near the entrance than just focus on fishing fun!
The clifftop doesn't spawn as many fish as the other areas. If you have fish baits it makes it easier to get rare fish from that location.
I went back with an inventory full of rare fish. Of course, you can stay more farm for the more expensive fish, like the Coelacanth (15,000 bells).
Some rare fish prices (for March, fish change based on month keep that in mind):
Coelacanth: 15,000
Oarfish: 9000
Tuna: 7000
Sturgeon: 10,000
Golden trout: 15,000
ENJOY the time there, don't rush it. I spent hours there as I knew I might not get to see it again anytime soon.

Thanks for pointing that out. At that point I was full. I even preferred keeping the Tuna which is less because I like that fish. If I stayed more, I could come home with all most expensive ones. I love fishing in Animal Crossing NH, so for me it was more of the experience, then the $. Of course it helped me pay the big load that I had, which was a big plus. I wish I can get it again someday...

Right after this video i went to an island and it didnt have small fishes but all i kept catching were red snappers and football fish ;-; buttt caught one sturgeon and an oarfish

i’m so confused on my island i caught about 20- 25 rare fish in the space of an hour i can’t figure out why
I camt exactly remember, but i think this was the ispand where i got 7 dorados, 2 Arowanas, i THINK a coelacanth, a hammerhead, and a great white. The layout looks so familiar but im not sure..
I was literally just traveling to a deserted Island and I found big fish island
There I found 2 oarfish 2 tunas 5 blue marlins and 2 coelacanth (and it wasn’t even raining)

Bro sturgeons are very profitable. Island #1 which is the common island, island #0 without the pond. It's so easy to catch them on that island, search up, "Sturgeon farm."

It depends when during year. September or March is best month to fish on big fish island. May is one of the worst months to fish here because you can only catch snappers and sea bass but in June I caught like 39 dorados in 1 hour.

Although tunas are not as rare as an oarfish or a coelacanth, they're still one of my favorites to catch.

When I was watching this video there were so many comments saying they got this island lots of times I fell sad because I haven't gotten it 1 time but I did get sturgeon island but sturgeon island takes like 3 hours to have a full stock and this island is way faster and you get more expensive fish

You can catch rare fish in the mouths that connect the beach to the river, and in rain, I believe that this is just a coincidence, because I’ve been on many of these islands and I don’t catch anything rare, plus ur inventory was basically all black basses

Been fishing here for about an hour and the most expensive things ive been getting are red snappers and snapping turtle ugh

How do you get here? I just caught a Coalcanth legitimately on my island after a while of grinding, and if I could speed up the process it would be appreciated.

I ended up at this exact island today and was very confused because I couldn’t find any mention of it as a rare island on websites, this is the only video I have found where someone has gone to this island that only spawns big fish. It must be very rare or something!

When In correct months, you can find the dorado, arowana and arapaima fish in the river.
I got a Dorado in June so it's most likely in June that you would get those fish

Idk if this is common or not but you can tell how big the fish is by how much the switch vibrates when your are reeling in the rod..
I just came to this video to check if the island I was on right now would be the island with rare fish before I left to try again. Well, the island I was on looks exactly the same and so far there also only spawned big fish, but fishing for them was a really disappointing experience. None of them rare in the slightest. Just the biggest of the most common fish.

Don't fish in the lakes and don't give up. As soon as I was about to give up I got a sturgeon. P.S your controller vibrates more aggresivly when it is a good fish

There's a mod that re-enables this island in newer versions. (v1.3 and below)

This island sucks . I was fishing for 2 hours , broke 6 rods and nothing but SEABASS snappers black bass and olive flounders . It’s not a lucrative RARE island like tarantula ( which is immediate farming ). Waste of time ! Maybe on a rainy day it’s a lot better but trust me if you ain’t got anything rare in the first 20 mins ...GO BACK HOME LOL 😂 👍
There might be a modifier that increases the chance, like rain as you mentioned. I personally haven't got a chance to get this again.

You couldve of caught a lot of stringfish too (15000$). Which spawns on top of the waterfalls or clifftops. (Maybe it was off month tho)
The spawn there wasn't that great so I decided to focus on the other areas.

Hi, It's random. There is no technique to get there from what I know.
Sea Bass You might not believe me, but you have to go up to Orville, use the delight emote until he blushes, then use your nook mile ticket and you’ll have a chance to get a rare island
nnaffenn this is actually true! I heard about this rumour and everytime so far that I have clapped at Orville until he blushed I have gotten a rare island- rare fruit, this one and now trash island with lots of water bugs! Hope this helps :)
