I ordered the gasket he said and did this process. I did NOT have to trim the new gasket down like he said. My first time ever doing a valve cover gasket. It took me about 5 hours. The longest and most difficult part was getting the old gasket off. I had to use a Flathead screw driver, picks, razors, wire wheel (very carefully and brief) and some light abrasive wheels on a dremel. The gasket was bonded to the aluminum some how. One thing I would do differently next time is clean the entire cover with degreaser first. I then use brake cleaner on towels to clean all gasket-contacting surfaces. I just finished torquing it down (the screws need 7 ft/lb). I'll update if my leak is not fixed.
