2:06 That’s a very new build of aerial, why is it marked as a spare? Would have thought the new ones would be allocated to stations, with the old ones being remarked as spares.

Usually yes that's how it works, but this is some forward thinking I would like to see more often. You wouldn't have to keep crews familiar with the old telebooms, the storage layout is the same as well as the capabilities. It gets plenty of use when the others go in for servicing. I'm pretty sure the new Turntable Ladders, exactly like station 11's, will also have a spare that is brand new when the others are built.

@@FleetStreetPhotographyAU Now you say that, that’s actually a very good point.
I have seen a lot of UK brigades reallocating 1 or 2 year old pumpers to driver training units and spare fleets when replaced by a new vehicle, presumably with the same forward thinking in that it’s the closest they’ve got to the modern standards of the frontline.
I know Scotland actually did it the other way round a couple of times; they are getting new Scania pumpers at the moment but they immediately allocate lots to the training units. They were under a process of retiring some of their own Aerials recently, with no new aerial to succeed it. Their replacements mostly happened to be the same ex-driver training Scania pumpers. In a nutshell it’s the reverse of the traditional life cycle of a truck being allocated to a station then going on as a spare or trainer. Now I definitely agree that the forward thinking should be applied as a standard that needs to happen more often in Australia.

IK totally understand the reasoning why they are doing what they are doing. But i have legal question.....
Activating the red and blues in a non emergency situation. Surely that's illigal.

Police will have their lights on when escorting protests, likewise with on road parades. I would say there is an exception somewhere
