This really made a great difference to the pumpkin! And it's great that it uses materials that either people are likely to already have, or can easily find.
so nice!!!!! I have about 30 fake ones scattered in the front yard. I carved them all with Jack-o-Lantern faces and I took the extra step of slicing off the top of the pumpkin (like you would with a real one) so you can see the crack of light when I put it back on there. That (plus the obviously hand made faces, that are FAR from symmetrical) makes it definitely not look store bought - people always ask me if I carved them all (to wish I answer YES). I only display them on Halloween night so you can't even see the stem but I love this technique.
Looks great! I've used armature wire like you did, but I've used caulk, the hand-held tube kind. I squeeze it on to create the ribbing. I've also used a chip brush to add texture. It's paintable when it's dry...
Awesome work! Love working with fake pumpkins. For the stem, I recommend following up with a wood stain of your choice once the paint dries. All those grains will pop even more. Thanks for sharing 🤘💀
That turned out great, very realistic. I liked the speckling of orange and green paint, but I wonder if it shows in haunt lighting? Not that minor detail would prevent me from doing small details like that. Presently. I don't have pumpkins in my haunt, hmmm... maybe I should have some. Thanks a bunch for the ideas!
Was enjoying the video & had just thought to myself 'mmmm, I don't have epoxy, I wonder if air dry clay is ok instead' and within a split second you started to say 'if you didn't want to use epoxy putty....' 👀👀 as if you'd answered I looked around and said "er...ok, thanks" 😄😄
This is great! I’m definitely going to try. I need a break from the larger scale project I’ve been working on the last couple weeks. For keeping the foil closed, those rubberized wire ties might do well, also giving the look of that ribbing you mentioned.
Hey Derek, just recently came across your channel. Enjoy watching all your projects. Was wondering if you have a video on making the pumpkin? Can't wait to try some of your techniques out. Thanks
Hey! Thanks for watching. I don’t have any videos on making the pumpkin since it’s just one of the carvable foam ones. But I may do a carving video in the future if that’s what you’re looking for.
Most fake pumpkins are pretty close to life-size (because pumpkins come in a variety of shapes and sizes). There's definitely some that look more realistic than others, like Funkins brand.
Why did you touch the hot glue with your finger? My wife saw that and said "See, he can touch it without cussing and doing a hot potato dance!" LOL Seriously though, great idea!
That electric drill/wire trick alone was worth the price of admission.
I agree
Game changer!
Aves putty is my favorite for all sorts of weird things. keep it in the freezer to extend it's unmixed life.
Literally got a giant pumpkin from Joanns that I wasn't pleased with the stem. Thank you so much for this idea!!!
I do love a good wire armature covered in foil- such a versatile and forgiving sculpt base!
2:25 That's just a different way of saying "until I achieved the desired look"!
Now you’ve made me self conscious. 🤣🤣
@@VanOaksProps Hey, we all need a catch phrase!

I thought you were going to put a light in it. Idky. This is awesome, dare i say makes more sense. Thanks for sharing!
I always look forward to your new videos & techniques and this was no different, turned out awesome!

Fantastic
Great idea! Im definitely doing this. Keep it spooky!
Nice job. A bit more pro than my usual paper towel and latex method lol
Such a great idea Derek!
I bet the clay/foam would be excellent for this application too.
Very Cool!!!! Great work!!!!! Excellent tips & info!!!!! Thank You!!!! 🎃👍😎😃🤘

PUMPKINS, and they look so good :0 ! I love it, spooky-season can’t come fast enough. Great video! ❤️✨
Nice easy project!

I was referred to your channel by Wicked Makers! You have interesting ideas and new ways to do them...enjoying this! Thank you!
Welcome!
Very Cool! Thanks Derek!
Any time!
Using a drill to twist wire.. 😯😃👍👍
Awesome job Derek, looks great!
Well said and well done👍🏼🌻

Your explanations are very clear. Appreciate that. Is the Apoxie Sculpt weather proof or do you have to seal it?
Apoxie Sculpt hardens like a rock. So it is as weatherproof as a rock 😊
@@conradcanderle3600 Good to know. Thank you!
Nice
So very cool!!!
Another great video! I've been looking around for faux pumpkins that are life-sized, do you have any recommendations? Thanks!

Reminds me of another prop maker video I saw, where the youtuber referred to hot glue as "burn your fingers glue."
I didn’t exactly touch it. It was underneath the aluminum foil 🤣
Nice 😀
This was great ... maybe a small wire brush for the texture? Love this idea!
💚💙
I still wonder why it´s written "gauge" and pronounced "gaige".
We may never know
