    I use after pay but I only use it if I had the money to buy it outright.
    Say there was a purchase I wanted to make that costed 600. I'll have the 600 aside, but if theres a option to use afterpay I will because it just helps mentally by making it feel like I'm paying less. And then I'll pay the debts weekly ahead of their actual dates instead of bi weekly.
    I agree they are predatory though. Especially with people who use it for small purchases. And also I don't care about credit score cause I'm not buying a house in my lifetime.

    • @Niosus
      @Niosus 6 місяців тому +5

      Because it feels like less, it already pushes you to buy more than you otherwise would. If you do it responsibly, that's still okay. But I think that it's better to just eat the entire cost up-front. If I'm not willing to part with my money for the purchase now, I just don't buy it. Softening the blow only makes people spend more.

      it gives you the freedom to leave the money in a daysavings account and getting some interest from holding more cash on hand.
      It's like 1-3% a year but it's still something. Alternatively, it could be put into like an ETF that tracks like the 500 top companies or whatever with like a spread risk or so

    • @Niosus
      @Niosus 5 місяців тому +1

      @@ayoCC If you're putting money you have actually spent in an investment, even a relatively safe one like S&P500, you're not being responsible. Those "pay later" loans have terms of weeks. There is nothing rational or predictable about the markets over such a period of time. A month or two later you may need the money, and not all of it could be there. And if you're buying and selling at that frequency, the fees will likely kill any returns as well.
      Only invest money you can actually afford to keep in the market for as long as it takes to make returns from it.

    My personal take is it’s fantastic for bigger purchases when you are in a tough spot but it shouldn’t be used for everything. Do remember that people like Atrioc are able to afford to buy things straight up. For others, we are often priced out of certain things. If you don’t go beyond your means it’s practically just saving in reverse, buy first, put away money later. Goal is not to use but it does serve a valid purpose.

In certain situations the ability to delay payment can be massive, especially if you don't have a massive income and know you will have the means to pay within 30 days.
