I turn a lot of antler, both deer and elk and love the way it turns out. One very important thing when turning antler is to wear a respirator. The dust given off has barbs that can catch in the lungs and cause health problems. Great looking pen! Take care, Dave
I have made hundreds of pens and other things. One thing I do and it helps I think. Is to flatten some plumbers puddy to about a 1/7 inch thick and press one end of the tube in it then I use a tube insert tool and push the tube in. this way you never have glue in the end of the tube
If you don't have vice to hold the blank to drill, then better use a thick leather glove to hold it or trimmer attach to lathe and shave the end after gluing the brass tube. I think those friction polish will peeled off slowly......................
Dema, I am about to turn my first Antler pen and I see there are several differences than turning a standard SlimLine pen. My question is this - you placed the antler between centers but I cannot see what type of "live Center" you are using. Is it the standard x-point live center or a different one specially for antlers? Thanks for you help and BTW you video was great as I learned a lot
Dema - you were of great help on the deer antler pen question - The kit blanks arrived yesterday and I am about to start "creating" but a question came to me in the middle of the night - How does one change the ink cartridge after the pen is assembled? I think I know the answer - "just pull the top end off" but wouldn't this also risk pulling the top half off of the body (antler or wood)?
Понятно. Все кругом - наши, куда ни глянь:) Хорошая мастерская, толково оборудована. А роутер чего ж маленький такой? На малых формах специализируешься?

I used a 60 degree live center not the one with the spurs, for a slimline pen you will need a mandrel though ,,

Joel Flamenbaum Joel, the copper tip of the pen unscrews to get at the ink refill :)

Я не делают ничего большовo, поэтому роутер может быть небольшой, и биты дешевле :)
it looks nice
Thank you, its looks awesome indeed :)
I bet that smelled up the whole county. Burning bone marrow is one of the worst smells I can think of
Kingpin Suited it was nasty, but looks good lol thanks for watching

That it does. I'll have to get one to match my knife.
Barbaric....no mask, dust collection, free hand drilling. How 'not' to turn antler.
