I completely agree. I sat with a college guy from my church a couple of weeks back as he explained his confusion over the need to carry a knife. As we talked I finally asked him about a desire to be self reliant and not count on someone else having what you need. Good video.
Yes, During the winter months outside, it's nice to have hat, gloves, and a hankershift or Do-rag. "Cloth is so much better than tissue paper." You can use it all day repeatedly and still find it warm and dry. Always Perfectly fine to wipe off or blow the nose.
I like the comparison to people carrying a cellphone. Young people literally can't imagine not having a smartphone in one hand. I remember, when cellphones didn't exist. And we survived! Knives on the other hand have been in our hands for thousands of years and us having, carrying and using tools like the knife got us where we are today. Man, the times I heard people ask me for a knife for this or that.. just carry a knife! A small swiss armyknife will do in 9/10 cases.
Self defense is the last thing on my list as far as reasons to carry a knife. I think if you carry one for this reason you better be trained in using it for that purpose. I love my Mora;'s for hiking & camping. I actually carry an EDC in each front pocket and a Leatherman on my belt. I also have a Gerber Suspension as well as a Byrd Rescue in my Bunker Gear at the fire station!
as far as self defense goes, I have never had to use it that way, and seriously doubt I will. I would like to use it as a deterrent more than a weapon. Make someone really think before they keep it going. If the worst happened, and my family or myself were being attacked, I will use absolutely anything I perceive as an advantage to come out on top. My dad was jumped as a young man by a few guys and was on the ground getting beaten pretty bad. He pulled his pocket knife and sunk it into a leg that was kicking his head. Fight over. No training needed. I totally see where you are coming from, but self defense is a use for a knife as a last ditch option. I also usually have 2 blades on me, plus a leatherman. Or, my secondary blade is on my Leatherman. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for your honesty regarding the second reason Rev. It is a valid reason and a primary function for some of us in major cities. Let’s not kid ourselves, it’s a tool as much as a force multiplier.
A simple pocketknife blade has solved innumerable daily tasks for generations. As far as self defense, a small pocketknife will be found useful for picking his teeth out of your knuckles..;)
Thanks for making this video and I agree. People here usually thinks carrying a blade is insane but they just don't understand how useful it is. I don't usually carry a folder but I have MTs with me every moment except in no blade environment, like flight. I do carry a folder with me when I need a dedicated cutting tool. Somebody will say a MT will do everything for urban use and nobody ever need a dedicated knife in urban but it is not true. There are too many moments that a MT knife is not being strong enough. MT blade is good for standby when you don't think you have to cut anything, but if you anticipate you have to do some cutting job that day, a dedicated knife is definitely a plus.
Good video Reverend! I appreciate you trying to educate people. I carry a Swiss Army Knife all of the time and use the tools more than the blade. On occasion, I do carry a pen knife or stockman knife. I got my first knife in my early teens and carried it through high school which was legal at the time. Yes, then almost everyone carried a knife and we respected it and other people. Indeed they were as common as cell phones today. Like you, my knives have helped others and me out of simple and complex situations. I remember my grandfather carried a small stockman to church, fond memories. I too have "Sunday" knives which are pretty, yet my beat up Swiss Army Knife usually goes to church with me as well.
I agree with everything you say, Rev. My father gave me my first knife when I was four years old and I've carried a knife essentially ever since. I carried all through school but, of course, that was before society went nuts over things like that. I've carried everything from a tiny "gentleman's knife" (very small blade and nail file) to the Buck 110 that so many of us carried when I was in the Navy. I carried a Swiss Army knife in a belt sheath for years, and only recently got into pocket-clip knives. We tool makers and that is part of what defines us as a race. A knife is the one tool I can carry all day, every day, everywhere I go and I'd feel lost without one!
I carried a small pocket knife all the way though school. When I was in school I remember we had hunter safety the teacher brought a bunch of firearms to class and let us handle them. They passed the guns around the class room. I loved that time and am glad I got to experience firearms and firearm safty. That what got me into firearms without that I don't know were I'd be today. It was a dif time for sure
you've got a great variety of knives. I've got 2 of 4. use my mini grip for most edc (at least right now) and my charge tti at work. I really like that little case knife it's soooooo simple, a real gentlemen folder not just a tactical knife dressed in a tux. I'm in canada but only about 4 hours to the zippo/case museum. last time I went came home with too many lighters and not enough knives lol everyone got one for Christmas but me haha
Spyderco delica. Has been in my pocket for 35 years. When I am hunting/fishing/camping I also include a Victorinox swiss army knife with multiple tools and a good fixed blade knife on my belt. I have a good Gerber multi-tool, but it tends to stay in my truck. Just to heavy and doesn't see a lot of use. Thanks for the thought provoking video. God bless.
I don't know how I would survive a day without my knife. I know what you mean when you say you feel naked without it. I'm the same way. I carry a Victorinox SAK w/ me in my EDC. I love it.
Joseph Hooper SAK is a great choice. Im travelling to Seattle, and Im trying to figure out whether I should ship one out, or check bag and chance it getting lost during the layover.... I am literally stressing out over it haha
Probably the oldest tool known to man and for good reason. Man has always needed something to cut with..even if just a sharp rock. I work a manual labor job and have no idea how some of those guys get by without a knife. Seems like I'm using mine every few minutes. And being able to sharpen one is becoming a lost art for those who do carry them. I get asked to sharpen someone's knife constantly. We all have to learn somewhere but man...I can't even fathom having to depend on someone else to do it each time. I have that same Mora and actually EDC it clipped to my belt with the sheath tucked into my back pocket. Doesn't interfere with my wallet at all and it's super comfortable, easy to access, and hidden. Made me start leaving my folders at home and freed up my front pocket. I also hunt wearing camo overalls and have that Mora attached to one of the chest buttons using the hole on the belt clip. Skinned a lot of game with it. Can't say enough good things about those knives.
I agree with hillbilly bob. When I was going to school it was perfectly normal for me to have a pocket knife on me.We all fished and hunted, during hunting season I always had a shotgun or rifle in my truck, and there were no problems with it. I never heard of anyone getting shot in school.
First UA-cam video where I agreed with every word out of the guys mouth. I have been collecting knives since I was 9 (I am currently 26) and I have had one or more on me every day since.
A few situations I have needed my knife: Chopping grass in a tight spot where we needed to set up hiking tents Stripping wire Hot fixes on electrical wiring in an emergency (before a musical performance) Cutting wire which was on fire due to a short (in a car) Opening bottles Cutting meat on the fire Slicing biltong Spreading things onto wheat biscuits, etc. Prying things while camping Cutting out splinters Levering stripped screws while unscrewing them These are the things I remember. A knife is a super useful thing to carry. Keep it sharp, keep it clean, and learn how to handle it.
Yeah I'm a vocational pastor myself. .I work construction and carry a victorinox tinker daily for my multitool ( I have a bad leg weight equal pain) as my main cutting blade I use either a rat 2 or a spyderco delica .but for self defense I use Saber pepper gel spray.
Bought family ladies tiny keychain swiss army knifes for xmas . Blade, sissors, nail file with a small screwdriver head. They laughed at them. Next xmas i saw everyone still had them on their keyring. My mom said in her 70 years she never carried a knife, but if she ever lost this one she would buy a replacement that day.
Agree with ya fully. Been carrying a Kershaw 1660CKT for over 5 years now and I can't see leaving the house without it. Slim enough to clip into your pocket and not even know it's there.
I along with a couple kids at our school bring very tiny multitools to school just incase we need them. I am on our schools robotics team and I can't even count the number of times that I or other members have used a knife to screw something in or to cut a zip tie. They are just great to have. Even though I rarely take my multitool out during the school day, my teachers know I have one on me and have even asked if they can borrow it in the middle of class to fix something tiny. I'm not saying that everyone should bring a knife to school because it usually gets you in trouble, but I do recommend that everyone should have one on them because you never know when you will need it.
Sometimes I find the length of your videos extraneous and wordy, however I must say your speaking voice and presentation is on point. Guess that is a must since you speak to groups of people in life.
Thanks? Ill admit I tend to go on a bit in my videos...it happens when I dont have notes. Ive thought about making notes for future videos. I think I will from here on out. While preaching I have notes to guide me (and the Lord haha) Thanks for watching!
I'm sorry that I came off sounding far ruder than I had intended. They are your videos and it is your right to speak as thoroughly as you want. I think you have great content and your channel will continue to grow. Thanks for the content
I carry 3,, main one is a victorinox field master, # 2 is a kershaw brawler 4 personal protection, # 3 is a case sod buster jr for pealing apples n general kitchen use,, forgot my victorinox a few time's and its amazing how many times in a day i hv reached for it
I've always carried a pocketknife. Ever since I can remember. All thru school. Back then most guys had rifles in their trucks. We wern't concerned bout danger. It was a way of life. Everyone hunted, fished and/or farmed. Back then you had an old cheap knife to open oil cans in your vehicle. I carry a 3 blade folder. Not a big one. I dunno, maybe 3 or 4 inches long. When I go fishing or to the woods, I may grab a multi tool. Before then it was an old boy scout knife. I've opened alot of cans with one. It's just an everyday tool you always have. And you can't skin a squirrel with a cell phone. :-)
i agree man, one time i helped a young man with his car,and that was because i had my charge tti with me,it would have been a lot more dificult without it
The gods didn’t give us claws to slash, rip, and tear, that’s why man made knives. I carry one of those 5.5inch bladed Ti Lites, and boy am I ready to defend myself if need be! My God given right to self defense doesn’t care for anyone’s feelings. Carry something with reach so that there’s no doubt if the time to act ever arises
Just got into an argument and blocked somebody on facebook. It is ridiculous even someone member of an EDC page is in favor of a stupid law banning the carrying of a knife, Claiming if wee need to defend ourselves we should gun up. He said he does not find a knife too useful when he carried one. But I, and I am sure majority of you use our EDC knives everyday for countless useful things and not for street fighting, It's a shame so many people associate this useful tool with violence.
Certainly opened up my eyes. Too bad the only time I'm out is when going or coming from school. Metal detectors make it pretty hard to get it in. Also, I don't even carry a knife while I hike. I keep a small pencil sharpener razor blaze for cutting cordage. Anything else, I split a stone for a good edge. Cool video!
Hey RevHiker as one pastor to another I totally agree that people need to know Jesus. As to the knives I too carry a small knife in my pocket, very similar to your Benchmade but not near as nice. They are convenient and I just enjoy having it with me. Thanks for the vids.
I've been following you on Instagram for some time now and have been watching your videos but never put 2 and 2 together. Lol your videos are awesome!!!!! Thank you for the great content. God bless. Oh btw I did purchase my benchmade 940 off of your review. LOVE IT
I’m an outdoorsman I never had a need to carry a knife unless I’m up north or going camping. I have plenty of tools in my truck bed toolbox including knives and I never had to use outside of that. Never understood why a lot of EDC people carry knives that’s just my take on it. My EDC consist of my slim wallet cell phone and pistol
RevHiker to each it’s own, I use my saw & hammer everyday. I just don’t think I could carry them around everywhere I go. What I’m saying you have some UA-cam gun guys carrying a knife for their EDC, mostly in urban areas. I bet half of them don’t know why. I can count in one hand in my life I needed a knife that wasn’t readily available, for the most part I have tools at home and tools in my truck. Again if I’m up north camping or doing my outdoor activities yes knife is a must.
It's funny when some1 says that he doesn't understand why you carry a knife and then one day asks that question "Hey do you have a knife? I need to xyz".
When did we stop carrying pocket knives ? At age 90 my Grand dad still had one in his pocket . My Dad is the same way. I have switched over to a multi tool most of the time but, when that is not there the pocket knife is.
I promised my father when I was seven that I would always carry a knife and have kept that promise for forty nine years. Its so useful I would feel naked without it. I carried one through my school life which got me into endless trouble but I got nothing out of school anyway so it made little difference.
Why a knife? "A human is a clawless, and furless mamal that uses tools, containers and makes fire". A knife is one of the most versatile and "high potential" object one can have on its person (with a lighter). Watches, cellphones, lamps, pens ... are second in importance Preference for MTs Having just one blade is good, but in my book, more tools is better. I'm a multitool person. MTs can cut, fix, interact, operate, do and undo so many things that I cant even begin a list. I prefer multitools for their "MacGuyver" effect aswell. Where I live, when you're drawing a Victorinox or a Leatherman, you became the "non threatening helping goody-two-shoes person" (that I am) and you can do pretty much all you want without any problems. Other knives may cause problems or weird looks. I use my knife more than my cellphone, people always ask me "Hey, do you have your knife today?" and thats why I always have one in my pocket every day of the week (and 2 on sunday).
RevHiker Dont get me wrong, I like single-bladed locking knives aswell, and I have some good ones but 1 It is illegal in public places here 2 Chances are people will have wrong ideas about why you carry one. so I end up taking only non locking MTs. For the defensive aspect; well, I've never been mugged before. I would prefer giving up my keys and wallet than to kill a guy in self defense.
RevHiker I think I understand what you said at 10:05 now. So your prospective about defense, protection and all that evolved as you became a family man and a father?
Sort of...I pray that I NEVER have to use my knife in that way. But, if someone chooses to try to harm my family, i will use any means to protect them.
I wouldn't ever put money out for a spyderco. The delica has a super thin blade and feels very cheap to me. The Axis lock is very strong, and has never failed on any of my 8 benchmades. An omega spring failure is VERY rare, and since there are two, the lock will still function.
RevHiker Respect your views Reverand but my BM940 failed after just one year of really minimal (peeling fruit, sharpening pencils) use. The Axis lock is weaker because of the flimsy spring(s). When it works, it's excellent but the fewer parts of the Delica encourage longevity. If a thicker blade is more use to you for EDC than perhaps the Cold Steel line might offer more options?
+paul greenwood Sorry to hear about the 940...im quite surprised. I have an aversion to cold steel. I just dont like how they feel, and I prefer my american made benchmades. Im also left handed so the axis lock really cant be beat for me. Its really the only true ambidextrous lock.
RevHiker I guess it all boils down to what use you need the knife for. Delica's and Endura's are both ambidextrous. I have two Endura's with ZDP189 and a sprint run HAP40. My PM2 is all American made (favours right hand carry though) but if I were going to war I'd want a Cold Steel Recon/Lawman with the new CTS XHP steel. I appreciate the brutal nature of Cold Steel (not for everyone) and if I ever want to trim roses then I'll stick with Benchmade. Again...that lock with it's weak spring is a deal-breaker for me.
a nice video, I prefer the tool version either the Victorinox Harvester (great pruner blade), unfortunately discontinued, or the Field Master, a Phillips version of the Huntsman with scissors, saw, large/small blades, etc. Both under $40, I have a hard time spending more than 2 hours of wages on a EDC item Thus the Leather man Wingman (around $30) and for a good under $30 single blade prefer the Ontario Rat 2. Same thing for flashlights, and I use a flashlight more than a knife. Under $30 the Fenix E12 and under $40 my preferred Fenix MC11. Again, I seem to find tools that work for my needs, not what is popular but can highly recommend Pruner (hawkbill) blades and a good working carry flashlight.
Makes good sense. I carry 2 every day sense I was a young man. 1 is a buck 110 and the other is a cheap look a like. Just incase somebody asks me to barrow it. LOL. And I agree with you 100 % everyone should put Jesus 1st. Then family then knives. And then 🇺🇸
im in school, pretty illegal to carry a knife... but i need it after and before so i have it kinda concealed. for security it's good to know you can actually do a difference instead of just getting shot and not being able to fight back. would hate to stab somebody, but if it comes down to it i will!
My hope is always that Ill NEVER have to use a knife in defense. Its the last reason I carry one. But, I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
I've carried a knife since I was about 15 or sixteen and for the longest time my mom was sort of against me having it I'm almost 19 now an it's just as normal for me to have a knife on me as it is to be wearing a shirt and just recently I've started daily carrying a Gerber multi tool as well as a knife and idk what I would do with out them now as you said I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it
Agree! Such a useful tool for a human. But no to defence for me, awareness is a much better tool for that except in extreme cases. If someone is agitated enough to randomly attack you, chances are that they could still go you with ur pocket knife out. Introducing a weapon can escolate the situation and up the stakes. You are trying to call their bluff and there are people who will not stop, will take the knife and 'give it back' to you. Try asking the person if they are ok, if there is anything you can do to help. Maybe you could whittle them a spoon
good on you, a knife is just a very useful tool,i use one every day to cut fruit, string ,boxes etc, it is the intention of the user who turns it into a weapon, i believe as you do that to defend oneself you need to have an equalizer to deter an armed attacker and i have heard from people in the real world who when a knife was deployed in defence against an armed bad guy the aggressors backed down and run away. i would recomend that you train in a filipino martial art to enhance your skills with the knife as it will teach you to make accurate and intentional cuts to neutralize an attacker without a lethal outcome. by the way im a convert to islam and i still love and follow jesus . all the best and god bless.
+dfcvda because laws are stupid and will get you killed helplessly. stupid idiots who made them think bad guys will obey laws, leaving you helpless since criminalls will always carry weapons.
When I was young, we were allowed to carry knives at school. Our jr. high ag class even gave away a rifle and a shotgun each year, and the kids who won one were allowed to carry it to other classes to show it off, and then took it home on the school bus. The world has changed a lot since I was a kid. I disagree somewhat about the Leatherman. It's extremely versatile and valuable, but as a pocketknife it's not nearly as good as a dedicated knife, at least for woodcraft. For real woodcraft, you need a traditional pocketknife with at least two blades, and three is better. A Stockmen tells any real woodsman who sees you that you know what you're doing. There's something you might try. I ask everyone I meet whether they carry a pocketknife. Despite my thought that few did, I've been pleasantly surprises. At least eighty percent of those I ask carry a pocketknife. This may be because of where I live, but it's definitely the case here.
+James Ritchie so you base someones skill off what knife they carry? Having a stockmen tells anyone who sees you with it that you have a stockmen. There is no skill level needed to buy one. A traditional pocketknife is nice, but they have their drawbacks. They were used in the past so heavily because thats what was available. I own a few, but I prefer my knives that have a lock. As far as the leatherman goes, it has 2 blades, and a saw, and a file...not sure how a non locking 3 bladed traditional pocketknife is better for woodcraft...unless your idea of woodcraft comes with "looking the part" of an 18th-19th century pioneer. An image made popular in recent years with the help of people like Dave Canterbury. The tools they used got the job done, but there is better equipment now. Otherwise everyone would still be using that stuff. If thats how you choose to do things, thats great. But there's more than one way to skin a cat.
I think was more referring to wood carving with the stockman. The 3 different blades gives you a true carver, a general knife, and a third blade specific to your likings. Like always you make a valid point none the less.
My EDC cutting Tool is the SOG Trident in Black TiNi with a seatbelt cutter. The SOG Trident is a safety Cutting Tool ! The Tool stores closed and locks open so will not cut myself. My dangerous Swiss Army Knife is not my back up cutting tool and stored in my pack. The seatbelt cutter is great for cutting twine on bales of Hay ! Another useful Tool is the WSH Wood Sheep Hook from Tractor Supply that is cut down to a long Walking Cane. The WSH takes a one inch (1") Rubber Foot ! Think you should carry one around ! tjl
+Morgan Soares Usually not for EDC, good around the house knives, letter openers etc. Also can be collected, but for an EDC, buy a reliable knife as most tac force knives aren't practical.
I'm only 14 and want a poker knife for simple thing ,not to very, like to recent or open a box but my mom thinks it mit be a bad idea, how can I confides her that I can have one
***** There are certain restrictions in some U.S. cities, but for the most part, as long as you arent acting like an idiot, and dont have a criminal record, police leave you alone. I dont live in the city and many people carry a pocket knife or smaller fixed blade.
+RevHiker I live in a rural area where every male and some females as well carry at least a small folding knife. Still, some people will freak out when you mention that you like knives/ have a knife on you.
+Turbo Titsss incorrect, under 3 inches, not locking and a good reason but even legal the police dont know the law, my GF is a Barrister but she says they may still confiscate a legal knife, so mine is hidden in my pocket and dont use the clip.
Why WOULDNT anyone carry a knife? I tried to get my wife to carry a small folder and she wont do it. She asks me for mine and I wont let her have it. Back in HS, Junior year Science class, 1984, I take out my little money clip with a tiny 1" blade to cut something. One of the "prissy" girls sees it and screams at the top of her lungs "HE'S GOT A KNIFE, HE'S GOT A KNIFE!!! Teacher looks at it and goes "That's not a knife!" lol.
Only idiots pull knives offensively/defensively (in the USA), especially as a deterrent as opposed to instant attack/surprise. Everyone has a gun. Including me.
I don't carry, use, or even own a flip style tactical knife. They aren't any good in bushcraft, they're poor at survival, and if you use one in self-defense, chances are you'll be prosecuted. It's easier to get away with using a gun than a tactical style knife. It's even far easier using some like a baton because even though a baton can be lethal, it's intent is to be non-lethal.
+James Ritchie If you dont own/carry/use any, how do you know they're bad? Anyway, I dont own any "tactical" blades either. The fact that a knife opens easily, does not make it tactical. It just means it opens easily, and is more convenient when you only have one hand free. Bushcraft and "survival" situations are much better suited to a fixed blade anyway. Most people arent bushcrafting everyday. Most people need one to cut a few things here and there throughout the day. As far as self defense, if Im on the ground being beaten, Im not worried about being prosecuted, Im worried about making it home again to see my family. I will use whatever means I have to defend myself or my family. Its a last line of defense, but could be the difference you need.
Americans? How many beheadings has France had in the past few years? Sweden is now the rape capital of the world and the UK is not far behind in terms of grooming gangs. Italy has lost entire towns to migrants, and Germany had 1000 rapes in one day a few years ago. The only difference is Europeans are so assfucked by worship of the total state that you wouldn’t dare talk about defending yourselves.
skfoxjrxzz I'm an atheist and still reacted the same way to this guy. Damn, you need to chill. And what it has in common is that he thinks both things are essential.
Carlos Eduardo the I'm a atheist so you shouldn't have any belives or opinions because it's against what I don't belive in. Atheist are all the same The guy next door to me is a Atheist but come Christmas time he sure was out celebrating it.Also got the church people to bring his kids presents.dont belive in something but sure takes advantage of the people that do.
I completely agree. I sat with a college guy from my church a couple of weeks back as he explained his confusion over the need to carry a knife. As we talked I finally asked him about a desire to be self reliant and not count on someone else having what you need. Good video.
therhinocraft Thanks. I cant imagine how someone couldnt carry one!
Sorry for just seeing this. But I still can hear my Grandfather telling me, " A gentleman always carries a knife and a handkerchief with him."
Sounds like a cool guy. 2 awesome things to carry
Jerry Haskins my mom makes fun of me for carrying a handkerchief. She says it’s so old school.
Lars Buskkraft totally agree!
Nowadays I'll quite often leave the house to walk to the shops/supermarket without my phone, but NEVER without a pocket knife and multitool.
Self defense is the last thing on my list as far as reasons to carry a knife. I think if you carry one for this reason you better be trained in using it for that purpose. hahaha thats a good one
I have had a knife in my pocket since 1968. God bless you RevHiker
Completely agree brother! I've had a Victorinox knife and a flashlight in my pocket for as long as I can remember.
👍

Kenrick Chow well said

I just bought a benchmade yesterday and I could definitely see benefits of a knife
Bought a mini griptillian today! Cheers and God bless
+z3n beats nice, enjoy!
Growing up getting a knife and learning how to use it was a rite of passage and I have carried one for decades.
Unfortunately those times are long gone...
great video, I'm not personally a religious person but absolutely respect your beliefs.
Thank you...there are plenty of people who dont...
you've got a great variety of knives. I've got 2 of 4. use my mini grip for most edc (at least right now) and my charge tti at work. I really like that little case knife it's soooooo simple, a real gentlemen folder not just a tactical knife dressed in a tux. I'm in canada but only about 4 hours to the zippo/case museum. last time I went came home with too many lighters and not enough knives lol everyone got one for Christmas but me haha
haha! The case is a great little knife
God bless.
A blade is more valuable than anything I carry each day, aside from what's in my head :) Thanks for watching! God Bless.
I've had more than one encounter with large aggressive dogs. That and aggressive cardboard boxes are reason enough to always have a blade handy.
hahaha...gotta look out for the aggressive boxes!
Great video! Nothing comes in more convenient than a knife or multi tool for sure.
Thanks for watching!
I’m glad that somebody on the Internet is openly saying stuff about Jesus
Gut hook may also be a seat belt cutter, this can be very usefull.
I agree with hillbilly bob. When I was going to school it was perfectly normal for me to have a pocket knife on me.We all fished and hunted, during hunting season I always had a shotgun or rifle in my truck, and there were no problems with it. I never heard of anyone getting shot in school.
smitty9306 its true. Its sad how times have changed.
First UA-cam video where I agreed with every word out of the guys mouth. I have been collecting knives since I was 9 (I am currently 26) and I have had one or more on me every day since.
Justin Kannenberg Thanks Justin!
"Most important thing I think is um, you know, knowing Jesus" You sir, earned an instant sub after that statement.
+Logan Thomas Amen, thank you, and God Bless!
Did the same thing
A few situations I have needed my knife:
Chopping grass in a tight spot where we needed to set up hiking tents
Stripping wire
Hot fixes on electrical wiring in an emergency (before a musical performance)
Cutting wire which was on fire due to a short (in a car)
Opening bottles
Cutting meat on the fire
Slicing biltong
Spreading things onto wheat biscuits, etc.
Prying things while camping
Cutting out splinters
Levering stripped screws while unscrewing them
These are the things I remember. A knife is a super useful thing to carry. Keep it sharp, keep it clean, and learn how to handle it.
Mrcloc well said
Yeah I'm a vocational pastor myself. .I work construction and carry a victorinox tinker daily for my multitool ( I have a bad leg weight equal pain) as my main cutting blade I use either a rat 2 or a spyderco delica .but for self defense I use Saber pepper gel spray.
+van hill haha, love the pepper spray. rats and delicas are good lightweight affordable EDC knives. God Bless brother!
Thank you God bless
I couldn’t agree more, mate!
Carry mine everywhere. Good video!
+Solid Tweak Thanks!
Agree with ya fully. Been carrying a Kershaw 1660CKT for over 5 years now and I can't see leaving the house without it. Slim enough to clip into your pocket and not even know it's there.
Everyone has to find a knife that fits them...glad you found one. Thanks for watching!
Good video, sir. Leatherman Wave is my favorite.
Thanks! Wave is a great tool. Buddy of mine has one and my brother has the surge.
+Jonathan Fuller It depends on where you go to school, and what your teachers are like. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the content
haha I knew what you meant...thank you for the compliment! I do go a bit long though...
I carry 3,, main one is a victorinox field master, # 2 is a kershaw brawler 4 personal protection, # 3 is a case sod buster jr for pealing apples n general kitchen use,, forgot my victorinox a few time's and its amazing how many times in a day i hv reached for it
Share many of my views, it’s refreshing to see in the knife and UA-cam community. Keep it up.
I do not own or use a smartphone but I must carry one small fixed blade and one folding knife with me at all times.
I will always carry a pair of scissors in school to solve the no knife problem.
GIMME 1000 SUBS NOW!!!! Gotta have something that cuts
how times have changed...we need to go back to those times! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video! I completely agree with every single point you've made!
i agree man, one time i helped a young man with his car,and that was because i had my charge tti with me,it would have been a lot more dificult without it
nice!
But I, and I am sure majority of you use our EDC knives everyday for countless useful things and not for street fighting, It's a shame so many people associate this useful tool with violence.
pinoywheelgunner it's a shame. A knife has hundreds of uses, perhaps the absolute least/last of which is defense. It's a tool, not a weapon
Cool video!
Maybe look into carrying while you hike...could really save you in an emergency. Thanks for watching!
Hey RevHiker as one pastor to another I totally agree that people need to know Jesus. As to the knives I too carry a small knife in my pocket, very similar to your Benchmade but not near as nice. They are convenient and I just enjoy having it with me. Thanks for the vids.
Thanks and God bless!
+Gary Cloud What's to gain in knowing this Jesus? Who is that guy? Is he a real person? Could you explain it to me, please?
I won't own a cell phone, but never am without my Victorinox Pioneer. Endless utility in a small classy package.
+Mary Cahill I have a pioneer too... great little tool
I've been following you on Instagram for some time now and have been watching your videos but never put 2 and 2 together. Lol your videos are awesome!!!!! Thank you for the great content. God bless. Oh btw I did purchase my benchmade 940 off of your review. LOVE IT
Chris Maynard awesome! Thanks!
I've never had to use a pistol... but I use my knife everyday🤷♂️
Every time! Lol
When did we stop carrying pocket knives ? At age 90 my Grand dad still had one in his pocket . My Dad is the same way. I have switched over to a multi tool most of the time but, when that is not there the pocket knife is.
Its sad. But today, everything is done for you so many people dont see the need. we need to put down the cell phones and pick up a pocketknife.
+RevHiker That's my quote of the day.
haha thanks
I promised my father when I was seven that I would always carry a knife and have kept that promise for forty nine years. Its so useful I would feel naked without it. I carried one through my school life which got me into endless trouble but I got nothing out of school anyway so it made little difference.
feel the same way! Gotta have my knife on me
you nailed it.
You carry your Leatherman in your pocket? Me too.
Why a knife?
"A human is a clawless, and furless mamal that uses tools, containers and makes fire".
A knife is one of the most versatile and "high potential" object one can have on its person (with a lighter). Watches, cellphones, lamps, pens ... are second in importance
Preference for MTs
Having just one blade is good, but in my book, more tools is better.
I always have one!
RevHiker Dont get me wrong, I like single-bladed locking knives aswell, and I have some good ones but
1 It is illegal in public places here
2 Chances are people will have wrong ideas about why you carry one.
so I end up taking only non locking MTs.
For the defensive aspect; well, I've never been mugged before. I would prefer giving up my keys and wallet than to kill a guy in self defense.
I understood. There were several years where all I had was my leatherman Charge Ti
RevHiker
I think I understand what you said at 10:05 now. So your prospective about defense, protection and all that evolved as you became a family man and a father?
Sort of...I pray that I NEVER have to use my knife in that way. But, if someone chooses to try to harm my family, i will use any means to protect them.
Discard the Mini-Grip and replace it with a Delica. The weak Axis-Lock spring will definately fail sooner or later.
I wouldn't ever put money out for a spyderco. The delica has a super thin blade and feels very cheap to me. The Axis lock is very strong, and has never failed on any of my 8 benchmades. An omega spring failure is VERY rare, and since there are two, the lock will still function.
RevHiker
Respect your views Reverand but my BM940 failed after just one year of really minimal (peeling fruit, sharpening pencils) use.
RevHiker
I guess it all boils down to what use you need the knife for.
+paul greenwood lol ok
God bless ptr. Also a knife edc person.
a nice video, I prefer the tool version either the Victorinox Harvester (great pruner blade), unfortunately discontinued, or the Field Master, a Phillips version of the Huntsman with scissors, saw, large/small blades, etc.
Both under $40, I have a hard time spending more than 2 hours of wages on a EDC item
Thus the Leather man Wingman (around $30) and for a good under $30 single blade prefer the Ontario Rat 2.
Same thing for flashlights, and I use a flashlight more than a knife. Under $30 the Fenix E12 and under $40 my preferred Fenix MC11.
Again, I seem to find tools that work for my needs, not what is popular but can highly recommend Pruner (hawkbill) blades and a good working carry flashlight.
everyone has to find what works for them
Makes good sense. I carry 2 every day sense I was a young man. 1 is a buck 110 and the other is a cheap look a like. Just incase somebody asks me to barrow it. LOL. And I agree with you 100 % everyone should put Jesus 1st. Then family then knives. And then 🇺🇸
I think it is really great that you talk about Jesus in your videos. Keep it ip
Rebel X59 good video, but fuck jesus
im in school, pretty illegal to carry a knife...
but i need it after and before so i have it kinda concealed. for security it's good to know you can actually do a difference instead of just getting shot and not being able to fight back. would hate to stab somebody, but if it comes down to it i will!
My hope is always that Ill NEVER have to use a knife in defense. Its the last reason I carry one. But, I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
RevHiker exactly
I've carried a knife since I was about 15 or sixteen and for the longest time my mom was sort of against me having it I'm almost 19 now an it's just as normal for me to have a knife on me as it is to be wearing a shirt and just recently I've started daily carrying a Gerber multi tool as well as a knife and idk what I would do with out them now as you said I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it
sign out a box cutter? Is that really a thing?
i agree with everything you said
Maybe you could whittle them a spoon
totally agree...
Thanks for watching!
good on you, a knife is just a very useful tool,i use one every day to cut fruit, string ,boxes etc, it is the intention of the user who turns it into a weapon, i believe as you do that to defend oneself you need to have an equalizer to deter an armed attacker and i have heard from people in the real world who when a knife was deployed in defence against an armed bad guy the aggressors backed down and run away. i would recomend that you train in a filipino martial art to enhance your skills with the knife as it will teach you to make accurate and intentional cuts to neutralize an attacker without a lethal outcome. by the way im a convert to islam and i still love and follow jesus . all the best and god bless.
Thanks! I have thought about getting some defense training with an edge weapon. God bless
Ameen to Jesus and all prophets 🙏
good video, always carry a knife of some sort.
Thanks for watching!
Live in England, virtually carries a death sentence but I still do, actually two.
+dfcvda because laws are stupid and will get you killed helplessly. stupid idiots who made them think bad guys will obey laws, leaving you helpless since criminalls will always carry weapons.
yep
+pinoywheelgunner Wait a minute. Bad guys don't obey the law? Are you sure? The liberals swear they do.
James Ritchie liberals are criminals. lol
And by the way,,, i could leave the other 2 at home n not really miss em,,, but not my victorinox fieldmaster
Errr I reread what he said. I retract my statement about his intentions.
Think you should carry one around ! tjl
What do you think about Krambit Style?
not a fan at all. Pain to sharpen, and not very practical for me either.
Are Tac force knives good?
+Morgan Soares Usually not for EDC, good around the house knives, letter openers etc. Also can be collected, but for an EDC, buy a reliable knife as most tac force knives aren't practical.
I'm only 14 and want a poker knife for simple thing ,not to very, like to recent or open a box but my mom thinks it mit be a bad idea, how can I confides her that I can have one
thats a hard question...maybe have her watch some videos about knives with you so she can learn
I'm 14 and my dad bought me a bm 940. U just needa point out where a knife could be used everyday for like a few weeks, then they will realize lol.
Sometimes I find
is it legal for you to carry these where you are obviously, because in the UK you cant carry any knifes at all i think
Its true...some people will always be worried no matter what. Cant understand it but oh well
+Turbo Titsss incorrect, under 3 inches, not locking and a good reason but even legal the police dont know the law, my GF is a Barrister but she says they may still confiscate a legal knife, so mine is hidden in my pocket and dont use the clip.
James Cooper haha there will always be someone who loses their mind when you use a knife.
They come in handy and I’m a man.
Lol saved my bacon.
Only idiots pull knives offensively/defensively (in the USA), especially as a deterrent as opposed to instant attack/surprise. Everyone has a gun. Including me.
Well I'm underage, so I really have no other choice... I'm not an idiot.
A knive is quiet....
Its a last line of defense, but could be the difference you need.
knife in self defense is quite dangerous
It saddens me to think that a religious man would need to think about self defense in their own town... What kind of world do Americans live in
Americans? How many beheadings has France had in the past few years? Sweden is now the rape capital of the world and the UK is not far behind in terms of grooming gangs. Italy has lost entire towns to migrants, and Germany had 1000 rapes in one day a few years ago. The only difference is Europeans are so assfucked by worship of the total state that you wouldn’t dare talk about defending yourselves.
in vietnam you will go to jail -)
+dinh nguyen that stinks! Glad Im in the US
knowing jesus? what the fuck does it have in comon with knife?
Brome Barium calm down man.
skfoxjrxzz I'm an atheist and still reacted the same way to this guy. Damn, you need to chill. And what it has in common is that he thinks both things are essential.
Carlos Eduardo me?
skfoxjrxzz Nah, I'm just agreeing with you that this dude should chill.
