I just realized during this, Nami's moment with Ulti, refusing to lie and betray what she believes in even if it costs her life, is a parallel to the last lesson Bell-mere taught her.

I would argue that if Nami's literal last words were "Luffy will become the king of the pirates", the crew would absolutely still go for it. I can imagine Sanji having a nice parallel to the "Zeff gave his leg for your life, don't throw it away" moment where he he makes Luffy promise to become the king of the pirates.

This thing is Ussop would be the one saying it. Telling the crew, her last words and again almost knocking heads together with tears in his eyes. I can see him going. I don't want her memory to be the thing that breaks us up, Let's make Luffy the king of the pirates knots for him but for her. It would transform one piece into Lucy's quests from freedom and to fulfilling a good friend's last wish type of deal

The one way I can see things keep going after this is Usopp telling Luffy how Nami died. Him learning that she died because she refused to say Luffy wouldn’t reach his dream would hurt him. But it would also motivate him to make sure she didn’t die in vain. She believed in him to the very end and the last thing he’d let happen at this point is fail to prove her right.

^^^^^ This is a good point. I'm also so curious as to how Usopp would handle this. Imo, Usopp and Nami are best friends, and he would be absolutely crippled by survivor's guilt. God, it hurts.
Just imagine that Sanji, in a moment of weakness and pain, yells at Usopp and screams, "It should have been you!" or, "Why wasn't it you?"
Tbh, I don't think I could see Usopp being comfortable enough to be in the crew after that, but I also don't think Luffy would be willing to let him go again, especially after losing one nakama.

Also, Jimbe would probably have to do with the whole crew what he did to Luffy after Ace died: be the rock that centers them and reminds them why they have to keep going. Between this and finding out why she died, Luffy would want to find the One Piece even more, just as he had with Ace - complete the dream they died to uphold. Luffy going gear 5 would be a more somber thing, a man who laughs in the face of death because "one day we all become naught but bones" so why not laugh and fight in memory of the dead to achieve their dreams.

I feel like Nami's death would be the worst mainly because Nami is not supposed to die. There is a certain hierarchy among the crew in regards to who protects whom. And Nami is on top (or at the bottom, depending of how you interpret that) of that hierarchy. Everybody is protective around Nami, so her death is quite literally mission failure for all of the Straw Hats. When I think about it, ensuring Nami's safety is as important to the crew as actually finding One Piece, this is literally their second main objective. And we can't say this about any other Straw Hat. Even if you pair Nami and Robin or Chopper, most likely Nami is the one to be protected by a teammate. And this is also a big part of her character. She is the part of the "scaredy-cats" trio, but even among them she is the last one to toughen up and actually take a fight, she will try to avoid it until necessary.
tldr Nami is NOT SUPPOSED to die, therefore her death would hit the hardest

I feel like the only way the crew doesn't disband is honestly through Usopp. He was the one who would've witnessed Nami's death at the hands of Ulti in this scenario and could have a very uplifting moment reminding the crew that Nami died because she would not compromise on Luffy being king. You could go an even darker scenario where Luffy doesn't wanna be king anymore without Nami but I think it's more likely that Usopp would have to uplift Luffy and the crew to continue their journey. They still would have their grieving period and I can imagine Sanji absolutely would not be fine for a good while even with motivation to keep going, but there is a scenario in this what if where the crew doesn't disband.

The OG three Luffy, Zoro, and Nami is my Favorite Character in whole of One piece. The thought of one of them die is mind-boggling, especially Nami. For me beside luffy, Nami is another unrecognize glue that stick the crew together, her value as Navigator, the one that organize the whole ship, and one of the first crew Luffy had is for luffy is invaluable, I'm not talking other crew is not invaluable too, but the emotional weight is to much greater than the other and making luffy relize he taking her for granted, if zoro die is not crews fault cause zoro is strong, but if Nami die than that is different matter cause she is the weakest of them all, and luffy as a captain is always neglected his crew safety, leading to his experience in sabody arc, he change a little after that but his action is still the same relying his crew to fend for themself. I don't think the crew is gonna broke up, if so their trust on luffy is easily broken, but the ripple effect will be massive to luffy's mental making him be more serious for being a captain of the crew, if that what will happen to the crew, I don't think Oda would kill of Nami, Oda like making luffy look and act goofy, that why straw hat crew is need of somekind of secondary and third leader ship in the crew, and for me that leadership is Zoro and Nami, the authority and organization of the crew, if either one of them die, then Oda really need to rectify luffy character to be more serious one.......

She's been with us for 20yrs, that's a long time to journey with someone and watch them grow, even if she is a fictional character. Zoro death, as we've surmised, would hurt, but is expected. Sanji's and Usopp's East Blue arcs were not as powerful as Nami's. Luffy placing the straw hat on Nami stands as the most powerful moment in all of the East Blue leg of the journey, and kinda marks Nami as the Strawhat that will be the most fondly loved and remembered outside of Luffy himself.

The trouble with Nami dying is that her dream is a physical object (map of the world) compared to the more nebulous dreams of some of the other members. I don't think Oda is going to deny any of the Straw Hats their dreams. If Nami were to die I think it has to be as a sacrifice. Not to save Luffy but during the act of freeing Fishman slaves (including Arlong) from Mariejois. This would bring her story full circle, from fearing the Fishmen to making the ultimate sacrifice for their freedom (Arlong would probably need smacking around by Jinbe to fully accept her actions)

while i think Sanji would take it badly. he would not be the worst. Ussop is way closer and connected to her than anyone and he would see it as a signal that hes not strong enough or good enough if Nami couldn't make it. Robin and Nami are like sisters i many respects and are super close. then again how can you not be close with someone you share a room with for a long amount of time. Then i think you greatly under estimate the deep bound Luffy and her share regardless if its platonic or borderline romantic. Their very close i would wager closer than any other straw hats. its really hard to say who would be hit the hardest but just because Sanji is Simping for her all the time doesn't mean he's the one who's going to take it the hardest.

    • @jamilantwi6678

I think that you could swap between Luffy and Usopp on who would be more effected by Nami’s death. I could see an argument for both, because of Luffy’s connections to Nami from saving Cocoyashi Village. I could also see Usopp being very distraught about Nami’s death to, given the fact that he would have been the one to see her litterally die. Robin would be a close third because she’s basically been like a sister to Nami this entire time. Last would be Sanji, I thought Sanji would be the most hurt because he’s the one that. Out worldly expresses his emotions to Nami the most out of everyone in the crew. Even in the video , Tekking, says that Sanji would most likely be the one who would take the longest to move on with his life after Nami’s death. It would a situation were they would go into Sanji’s room and ask him if he wanted some food and he would probably say something a long the lines of “ what’s the point of eating food, Nami’s dead”. I’m not saying that Sanji would be the only one that would be sad about Nami’s death, but I feel like all the other crew members would find a way to continue with their lives and the journey easier than Sanji would.

When Final Fantasy VII was being made, the developers initially intended to kill off Barrett - make it a really badass final stand where he goes out in a blaze of glory. But then they decided that they wanted to make the party feel not only sad, but vulnerable and helpless, so they went and took out the kindest and sweetest character around, the emotional lynchpin, and the only mechanically specialized mage.
Your comparison of Zoro and Nami dying gave me very similar vibes.

I have a scene in mind as everyone grieves Nami:
It shows them all separately grieving.
Luffy sits on the figurehead of the Sunny, probably crying
Zoro is in the crows nest lifting weights quietly, not even putting any effort into it.
Sanji absentmindedly chops carrots or something in the kitchen. He's cooking, but theres no passion.
Usopp is probably in Nami's study, desperately trying to learn to navigate to fill the void. Jinbei is probably there consoling him.
Robin comforts chopper as they cry. Its her role as the mother to take care of the crew.
Franky and possibly Jinbei are on damage control: Franky is distraught, but he's either going around trying to comfort the rest of the crew or taking the helm and crying, because he's too hardboiled to keep it in.
Then the closing scene of the chapter or episode: Zoro wordlessly climbs up onto the figure with Luffy. Sanji does the same. Usopp comes out and joins them, and then the rest of the crew does too. They are all on the deck or figure, crying together. They're still together, even in their tears.

Yes they won't have a navigator however Jimbei may be able to do things like ask whale sharks to show them directions (similar to how camie asked the fish to do that in saboady) and there will be more tension amongst the rest of the crew (especially Sanji) and Zoro but I think they would keep going

You picked a really tough one Tekking. Nami was probably the hardest sell for joining the crew in the first place. I know most would say Nico Robin in her place, because water 7, but Robin's hurdle had nothing to do with her personality.
Nami is the most pragmatic and business-like of the Straw hats. To say she believes in Luffy wholeheartedly flies in the face of her former life in Cacao V. and is actually a real revelation. It means she's no longer humouring Luffy as her 'little brother' and actually reveres him as one might revere a man of status. Also, rebutting in part, what you said about Nami being a fighter, she's not it man. Nami's death would be more of a civilian death than a combatant's. Yes, she acquitted herself well in some of the earlier arcs, but Nami doesn't consistently fight on the roster. Killing a non combatant is harsh any way you slice it...
& Talking about how Sanji would react to from this... ooof... He honestly needs his own separate episode...

Nami being willing to die for the truth (Luffy WILL be king of the pirates) is very similar to the catholic martyrs.
They refused to bow down to power and renounce their belief in Jesus.
Imagine what kind of conviction and faith it takes to lay down your life on principle.
Nami deeply respects Luffy so much so that she cannot deny his dream to save her life.
This shows why Luffy is qualified to be the captain. He brings out the best in people and inspires people to do the impossible and stand their ground no matter the cost.
There is a saying that "all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." One Piece shows us the counter principle
"All that is necessary for miracles to become possible is for good people to take a stand."
You may not experience the miracle in your lifetime, but by taking a stand (even to the point of death), you can inspire and support the next generation.
How many people died in One Piece because they took a stand and, by doing so, put the necessary pieces in place for the next generation to have a miracle?
Even if you die taking a stand, the next generation will inherit your will and move forward.

Luffy could ask Shanks to help them get back to the East Blue as well. There are two issues with this: 1, Luffy and Shanks are both Yonko now so if they meet up then the Marines might notice, and 2, Luffy doesn't WANT to meet Shanks again until he's King of the Pirates, but the things that makes this likely are that Shanks obviously knows what it's like to loose a crew member. Or not really a crew member in his case, but his Captain. We saw how devastated he was in a flashback. And we also know that Yonko are able to basically traverse to and from the Grand Line whenever they want.
