Vintage Heathkit SB-610 Monitor Scope restoration using Hayseed Hamfest recap kit

- I bought a used SB -610 from eBay. It has a blown fuse, a leaky capacitor, a nonfunctional selenium rectifier. It sounded like bacon frying when I powered it up. In this video, I use a recap kit from Hayseed Hamfest, who makes custom recap kits for many ham radio and other vintage electronics. I don't show the actual soldering, but I stop and show each step where the new capacitors are mounted. I diagnose the bad selenium rectifier. I do a fairly complete demo of the SB-610 using it to monitor the output of my Drake T-4XC transmitter, and I try out the tone generators on the SB-610. I came back to your video after ordering the Hayseed recap kit for my station monitor. I had the same problem with the four capacitors . I could not figure out where the extras needed to be installed. Thanks for helping me figure it out.
always replace old electrolytic and paper caps, and personally I replace old solid-state power supply diodes made before 1975... ive just had so many turn out to be bad one way or another
I had one of the blue-green "Tupperware" models my uncle built and used before he bought one that could function over 1 Mhz. I had it hooked to my stereo and would show friends the separation between the channels
I use Hayseed & Radio Daze all the time. I like a device to look original, rather than a BATCH job with CAPs just through-en the bottom!!

Those black beauty caps are notoriously bad. And I'd be thankful I wasn't around when those selenium rectifiers went bad, apparently they smell terrible when they go, and the fumes are pretty toxic since they contain cadmium. Definitely want to send them to E-waste rather than just throwing them in the bin.
