Brian Bright, Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero director (OG Neversoft) who was working with Embracer Freemode (CRKD parent company) until June 2024 according to Linkedin, 5 days ago posted a link to the guitar controller teaser from CRKD. I believe this is also the same Brian brought up in the conversation, could this man be working on a new Guitar Hero game? 👀 (My assumption comes from assuming he's still working with CRKD from what was said, but he doesn't list himself as working within Embracer anymore since June, which would be a similar relationship to Neversoft and Red Octane)
I have never had 2 hours fly by listening to a podcast much like this episode. Massive props to Lee and Charles for the stories and helping to create a bright future for this genre that I know matters a whole lot to me and plenty of others, and also THANK YOU to you four! It is just incredibly cool that you guys get to do this in the first place. Five fret games are not dead!
Hearing about the development of the first Guitar Hero is so funny. That game just oozes with that feeling of "yeah this is rock" from the setlists and character designs to the artstyle and slight animations in the game, so hearing that that was the bar of entry for 99% of what came into the game is so cool. There's no other games like those early PS2 entries, the vibe is just pure rock all the way through them.
Someone I met through some college during high school program at Stanford's mom went to the same gym as Charles (or I think that's how they knew him). It's not an interesting story, but I ended up with a signed gh1 game manual from him, which I think is super cool.
I loved this episode as it was hugely sensational. But I'm afraid we have to live in the moment with Clone Hero, YARG and Fortnite Festival. I always hope for the meantime that the old Rock Band/Guitar Hero games would be resurrected from the dead. Because I just wish that there would be even more RGH Xbox 360s manufactured. If only Microsoft would listen.
Loved this episode, but there was one question burning in my mind that didn't get asked. "Why were the GHLive guitars so shit?" I jest, but would love to have these guys on again to talk about random-ass prototypes that we have yet to know about. Like that DJ Hero one CRKD showed off the other day.
Fsg was a game studio they made games (and requested several proto’s) including the 3x2 fret idea. Ro publishing was rolled into activision. Hw team became Ro design and managed dev & production of hw projects including the reboot gh live. It was a pleasure working closely with fsg on dj hero and gh live.
Hearing the way Lee was talking about the specifics of getting mechanical frets produced gives me some real hope for next year

That poster behind lee goes insanely hard
