      Scam: fraudulent or deceptive act or operation
      He just wanted a one-time cut and made me think he was gonna be weekly if I did a good job. Like I said, lesson learned. I will charge more for overgrown cut and only if they sign weekly contract.👍

    I had a guy do that to me last fall, lawn WAAAY overgrown gave him a deal to knock it down , cut it Line three times. He hadn’t trimmed it in two months. I thought we had an agreement to mow it a few more times going in to late fall. Text him the next week and he said he was good. I was not impressed. So this spring he calls and texts me about a lawn care program for weed and fertilizer. Which he had mentioned last fall. I just kindly declined and said I only treated lawns that I maintain. Moral of the story is that it’s only a mistake if u do it a second time. Keep up the good work Naylor .

    I wouldn’t say scammed. He’s just cheap. I see it all the time. I prefer to overestimate and if it ends up being not as bad as I think, my clients love when I knock some off the price. Makes you look good and them feel good. And the higher price scares off cheapskates.

  • @bigtexas7580

    Scammed is not getting paid at all, you just encountered a cheapskate. Just charge it to the game and never deal with that person again.

  • @mystorymylife9998

    I don’t understand. You gave him a price and he never said he was going to have you do it full time. That’s why you should have two options. Prepay for a month or give him a one time cut price. I don’t see how this is a scam. If you got paid, it’s not a scam.

    • @LawnCareRookie
      @LawnCareRookie  5 років тому +2

      He asked for a weekly mowing price also, which implied he was interested in my services, which made me change my thinking about pricing. Like I said, I should've charged the right higher price or declined. Lesson learned.

      LCR I learned that a few years ago. Never base a price on a customer saying “ I’ll have more work later on “ or i want you to cut it now and see how it looks. It’s all talk and here say.

    Thanks for sharing. I think no signing agreement would helps. Since you have busy schedule, I would say just charge for the first cut price. If they like your service, they will stay with you. Don’t go after customers anymore. Let they come to you.

  • @mrdavebach
    @mrdavebach 5 років тому

    We give our new customers 10% off the first five cuts. The end result is a half a cut free but spread out over five mows. If it's initially a double or triple cut we charge them for that on the first mow but still apply the 10% discount. We also give them an option to start by just taking a bit off the top and then taking a little bit more each week. In a few weeks an overgrown yard can be right where it needs to be, the customer is able to avoid a double or triple cut charge, and we have a workable arrangement with realistic customer expectations. Good luck and I too would love to hear other ideas.

    Bid high, be confident in your price and if they don't like it move on. If you have thirty clients in that subdivision, talk to them. Find something wrong with their property. It doesn't have to be lawn related, but find something to create conversation. Creating conversation creates work for you $$$, and a lot of times, people that are actually home during the day will give you info on who's a good neighbor and who is shit. A good contractor is one that is trustworthy. Mowing is easy, look up from your stripe and see the full property. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.

    I learned this. I always ask what happened to your last lawn guy because it usually the customers fault why they never came back. You need to catch the red flags quick. You said he was trying to rush you to cut the grass = red flag. I don’t do business with a lot of people because I catch these red flags to quickly

    It happens to the best of us! Lesson learned but hopefully it will not happen again. Some frown on prepay but in situations like this you have to do it. Not worth your time and effort if the customer doesn’t pay.

  • @wdilks
    @wdilks 2 роки тому

    Set full one-time price of a high cut, then weekly at the weekly rate. On 3rd or 4th weekly mow (pick one), credit the first cut down to the weekly rate. Fits the best of both, and allows you to know they're serious about weekly. This way the only thing you're giving away is incentive, not time and money.

    Sorry to hear this bro. That really sucks. Only suggestion i have is i would have charged him full spring clean up price off the get go. That way if he ended up changing his mind about regular maintenance you'd still make the initial big job worth the effort.

    I charge them the one time overgrown cut fee say $120 up front, then ill maintained weekly for $50 each week. but I will deduct a discount on the last mow of the month. That way I get my one time fee up front and if they drop me after that, I have my money for the first overgrown cut. I explain this to the customer that I have been burnt in the past and have had no problems so far with anyone disagreeing. If they do... then you know what their intentions are right away.

    I have been there before...most likely they do this to everyone who comes along. I have went through it. They guy who spots a lawn service and says "hey I don't know what happened to my guy. He stopped coming around and I need my yard done ASAP. If you could do me this big favor and cut it for me I will set up a regular service." And you go out and give it your all to make things look the best and they are happy.. then they never call or aren't answering your text. .one week three weeks go buy and your drive by the home and you see hack it up lawncare out cutting it. They just use everything and everyone they can find because the HOA is on their back. What I suggest since you never know people's intentions. Charge like a first time clean up unless they pre pay for your service. No deals !!! I have had some who never even paid me after I ran out to provide services.

    • @LawnCareRookie
      @LawnCareRookie  4 роки тому +1

      That's exactly it. You get it! It sucks, but like you said, no more "favors" or assuming. I charge overgrown fee now. That's when you know they're serious. And if not, at least you got paid a better rate for your time and effort. I'm fortunate that I even got paid...

    You can specialize in major clean-ups Tony's Lawn Service specialize in major cleanups all Targets Sears Walmart Kmart all the stores Hurricane cleanups doesn't matter same day put a dumpster debris is gone doesn't matter but the bottom line is you can't hold a person feet to the fire if you're not I'm willing to stay in the fight look you you allow yourself to be Bamboozled because you even said it you got a lot of yards in the neighborhood and people know you somebody suck him on you for him to get your pricing and now some of your yards might be under siege because they might drop the prices from $60 a visit to maybe $25 a visit you never know what the next Lawn Service to do but what you know is that you work for your lawn service me I worked for God whenever I went to do a cleanup I gave it everything I had it shows on my website it shows by the men power that I taught how to become from promising Lawn and Landscape us because we love what we do I work in God's Vineyard for a penny for a penny sometime it get to be plenty pins sometimes it don't but make no mistake about it wouldn't have it no other way I love what I did and I love what I do you have to love it even though you feel misused and abused Shake It Off shake off that dust off your feet and go to the next one because that's what we do we shake the dust off I'll be and we go to the next one and we posterize the next yard now you must posterize all your yards in that neighborhood because of somebody is coming after your yards now if you don't believe me ask your clients if they really are your friends and they really like your work they are tell you hey somebody stop by and gave me a flyer and said that they would do the same work you do for $15 or less and I and they asked me how much you charged I told him you charge $150 a visit

    Why are you beating yourself up on this? You win some and loose some. I would in the future price it accordingly and not to try and win a possible customer.
    You shouldn't give discounts when your routes are full. Charge premium price for work like that so it is worth doing.
    Maybe the best way would have been to get them to sign a contract for your service. Then you will know if they are serious or just looking for a one time cut.

    So you did get paid for that one time right?

      Yeah, but I was underpaid. It was my fault for letting them lead me on and try to give them a deal to win them over. They just wanted someone cheap to mow there lawn. I got called by another one today like that. They said if I do a good job on the first cut they'll think about weekly... I took a look at the property and it's overgrown! And she's rushing me...🤦‍♂️
      I'm not doing it for less than double the weekly rate. Like has been said, that will filter these people out from who's seriously looking for a good lawn care service provider.

      Yeah, it's getting real. When ever anyone asks for lawn care, at least a dozen recommend me, and it's like "I guess I have to contact them, they're everywhere."

    I will say your spoiled... Cut get paid move the hell on...i could give two shits about a single cut double the cost even tripled sometimes and im gone... back to my regulars and schedule. Super tall grass12-18 inches knock it down for threes times the cost...tell customer it not gonna be pretty but im trying to save you the trouble then let them know that you come around and can cut weekly in future for the normal price... Cut the shit and keep it moving stop 😢
