It's better for people to recognize that fact early on and accept it. Your life will be so much easier rather than fight against the inevitable.
What a fabulous job you've done! Cats can squeeze into spaces you'd never believe they can. I still remember the time my husband decided he was going to work on the hot water heater, which was under the refrigerator, and didn't secure the vent access properly when he went for parts. I had an unbreakable rule that the coach didn't move until we knew where the cat was. It seemed like we spent ages looking for her before she came strolling out from under the refrigerator. 😄

I'm with you on the unscented cat litter. The scents bother me; I can only guess how they would affect a poor kitty.
Yes! The skin on their beans is vascular and actually absorbs things into the bloodstream.
So it’s extremely important to use unscented litter. And hopefully not clay as it isn’t environmentally friendly.
I find World’s Best Litter works perfect.

We use unscented nonclay Okocat

I live in a box truck with two kitties, and over the big roll-up door opening I've put up a single car garage magnetic screen that is held in place by Velcro. But, to keep the criminals in, I also put multiple long, extra strong magnetic strips along the bottom to hold the screen tight. Works like a charm.
Cats can & will go anywhere they can fit their heads. For non van life types that includes furnace vents and possibly floor joists and inner wall space.

Chungus on keyboard, my kitty doesn't do that anymore, but used to do that when young all the time. Wakka (my cat) is senior now.

We used pine pellets for kittie litter. The pellets are hard for their toe beans so we mixed in pine shavings, all from Tractor factor. It's non toxic, almost dust free, minimum tracking and super cheap. Cleaning takes a little getting used to though but it's worth it.

This was so interesting! I would never have thought of some of those things, like the boards that you have to prevent her from getting all the way into the back if she climbs over everything. Thanks for sharing all of these tips that you guys had to learn the hard way. Big Chungus forever!❤

big chungus is already 12?! i'm shook! it's always lovely for me to see her because she looks pretty similar to my cat (2 years old and a bit smaller) and they even have some character similarities like trying to sneak out of their home or prostesting against unwanted cuddle sessions. my cat Juno is really attached to me, especially since i'm 9 months pregnant. she always sleeps at my feet/ legs.
and all cats are the same with knowing exactly where their food is, aren't they?😅

We've had the same cat backpack for years! 😻 Honestly it's the best one I could find to keep her cool and open up for space, plus the locking zippers are nice too 😼
I'm wanting to build out a 100% Stealth box truck with no windows to travel solo.
I have a cat, but I'm not sure how to create a stealth CATIO to keep my little baby cool, while I gone for a couple of hours. I was thinking of creating a small opening in the floor down into a cage so she is covered, hidden, and has a breeze
I’m thinking I may design the platform with a section up at the front for the litterbox, but have it on a pull out shelf to the back with storage on the rest of the shelf. It’ll be easier to clean for me (I’m disabled). And have a gate at the door for it so I can keep her from escaping when I have it pulled out.

Best scratching post is a 2x4 screwed into something solid where they love to scratch. Can a 2' length be attached to the back of the chair where she scratches? The cardboard scratchers are fine, but what they really want is pine. Mine goes to town on one I have screwed into the frame of my sliding glass door.

As for the smell of the litter tray, try mixing sodium bicarbonate in with the litter. It absorbs all sorts of odours and is non toxic and cheap as.

Great video and good job accommodating your van for a cat. I think you should have observed where she was scratching and put a scratchpad there. Ideally, a better one than the original surface and use it as a sacrificial layer. You would probably need multiple scratchpads to protect all places.

I have a net for preventing the cat falling out of the window, maybe if you can put it up it will keep her in, although my cat tries to find a way to get behind the net and I'm on the same side as he is, what i mean is she might be trying harder when she sees you at the other side of the net 🤔

Me and my boyfriend are living in a static caravan with my cat in a chalet park cos I've been revenge evicted and it's a hell of an adjustment, I'm having to keep him in for 2 weeks but he's got out 3 times and idk what to do 😭. I'm gonna try the GPS collar and let him out gradually but cos I'm living between two motorways and there's caravans he can go under I'm terrified something will happen to him but he's used to being and outdoor cat so i can't keep him in forever. These are good tips you've given.

How do you cope with the inevitable temperature swings that come with mobile living? I've been thinking about getting a can but I'm concerned about the times that it gets both really warm and cold, summer and winter.

What if you and your partner go in a long hike and leave chungus in the van. How do you keep the temperature controlled if it’s an especially hot day or something?
they've made I think a short about this before if you want to go find it, iirc they have lots of vents, window shades and they avoid really hot places so the van can stay cool

My cats make such a a mess of the litter box, even with a litter mat there are pebbles enerywhereeeeeee. I feel like they would be in every crevice of the van. I don't know if there's any solution other than a litter robot?
Scented litter is the worst! It doesn't cover up a big stinker, and boxes should be cleaned often anyway. If the litter box stinks, it's time to clean it, not spray perfume on it.
How does the spice rack work? is it just magnets?
