Noticed you are using a smaller wick than the standard quarter of inch size for African Violets . Sold on Amazon . Is your wick acrylic about sixteenth of a inch ?
Great job there. I love that you use a cookie sheet too. I wondered if that was totally just me. I think we do the same with hating to pull any blooms.
I apologize Heather, I saw, after asking, again, that you had already posted an answer to a previous question. Keep up the great work. I like listening to you talk!

Hi, I just got my first African violet an I have questions. First, why do add perlite to the top of the soil and what is wick-watering? Happy growing!🌺
Howdy. Congratulations on your first African violet!! I add perlite to the mix as they like a much lighter soil..it helps to keep the soil from compacting so much and overwatering them. I do add it to the very bottom..a small layer..I just like that little bit of safety layer. Wick water is using a wick..and in my case acrylic yarn that’s threading through the bottom of the cup or pot and inside...it sits on a reservoir or plastic covered container that has water in it...the wick or yarn soaks up the water through it and feeds water to the plant on a continuous basis as long as there’s water in the reservoir. For this method you would need a specific type of mix because you’d just overwater and kill them... Hopefully that helps if you need further help or clarification I’m here 😊
I remove as much of the dirt as possible so there’s nothing much of what is from store bought is left. I try to do this to prevent that part being too wet and casing the plant to die
Q...is your media ratio about 3-1? Are you using African violet mix with the perlite? I'm impressed with all that perlite! I never knew av's will grow in a mix like that. Can you show us how you fertilize and what you use as well in a video? I'm a new subscriber. Maybe you already have a video on that. Btw...Good job! Az here🌵😎🌵
Actually my mix has changed quite a few times..lol. originally I had av soil with perlite..then I went to vermiculite, perlite and peat moss..now my mix is perlite and peat with perlite being about 80ish% of the mix..I go perlite heavy on all of my mixes
I found a 1/4 inch, about, little round ball, green, on one of my violets that appeared where a flower had finished blooming. Is this a “seed”? Not sure what to do with it.
Would 1/2 perlite and 1/2 African violet soil still be too heavy a mix? I haven’t been working with African Violets very long. Thank you for your videos!
@@marycrum127 sorry I thought you were asking what the white is..in this video I used a very high perlite with a very small amount of African violet mix
do you think running the water over them helps them ? just wondering why one would do that ? you are the first person I have ever heard do that do you root the babies too ?
Howdy! Yes you can..I did somewhat mention it but kinda steered away as I didn't want someone to attempt it and then it dies. .I can easily kill plants by overwatering..so I tend to avoid it. As for why? Well I recently entered at my local fair and no shine spray is allowed..dusting them kinda shines them up. .removes dust dirt etc I have seen a few dust them..there's not many folks who talk African violets either..plus I'm pretty weird and never do the normal thing 😊
Your soil mix seems to be way too dry. I wouldn’t use that. What’s that mostly perlite? You know a plant does need nutrients, not just from fertilizer…there’s no nutrient whatsoever in perlite. The grower of African violets use very cheap ingredients and that wet soil is mostly peat moss (it’s not really soil…). Peat moss isn’t used in where it grows, it actually grows between some rocks even on the ground and sometimes in the the cavities of cliff etc. I think some older European generations used peat moss because it was the only thing and the cheapest available there. It’s really inappropriate and not suitable for any plant actually. And that’s not dirt it’s the peat moss which becomes like wet sponge. I dislike peat moss for plant growing. I think they’re only concerned about profit but not producing beautiful African violets.
She’s using enough perlite given her plant environment. Everyone has different humidity levels mine was a lot higher at the time i uploaded this and most of my African violets are water wicked. Perlite saves me from my plants failing. I’ve experimented with using a very high perlite ratio to see how plants would grow
Perfect mix according to the regular amount normally has very good growth ,works 100 percent rate if useing ratio of 50/50.Im haveing great luck useing cocoa husk with perlite, leafs don't droop,,plants just seem to skip recovery to straight health and move on, very happy with high great results, what's your story?

Optimara places the plants deep in soil so they tend to grow suckers. I am inspired by your video!!
I too bought some African violet plants recently so learned how to repot them from you. Thanks for sharing the video. 😍
You’re fun to watch/listen to! You made repotting fun!
So helpful. I really appreciate you taking the time to film this and provide us with so much information!
awww best comment ever! thank you!
I’m glad you decided to do the whole video instead of “sparing” us as I am new o violet care and training.
Aww thank you..I worry so much about rambling on way too much lol
What'is perlite?
What size pot do you mostly prefer and African Violets grow best in ? Do you prefer wicking or water from above , not getting water on leaves ?
Your potting medium looks like mostly all perlite and no African violet mix. Am I correct or is it 50/50?
What rayio of dirt and perlite do you use in your mix?
What do you have in your potting mix is it just potting soul and perlite
What type of pot did you move your violets to? Curious why did you not wash and reuse the pots the violets came in from the store?
Noticed you are using a smaller wick than the standard quarter of inch size for African Violets . Sold on Amazon . Is your wick acrylic about sixteenth of a inch ?
Thank you for that beautiful video I really appreciate how you took the time out to make that nice video I learned a lot thank you🌹👍🌺
Awwww thank you!!!

Lol non stick cookie sheet! I do..I really do..
Thank you!
Are you using yarn for your wick❤TYFS
You can plant the bloom stalks too! Just remove the flower tips first
Very true…strangely I’ve not had success with it..bummer
Great video! I think the red stem one is a long stem violet naturally.
Nice video
Thank you! God bless!

Very good idea at the and and beautiful video and repotting
Thank you! You came to mind when I mentioned it
That made me smile
You should explain why you take all the dirt off of the roots. I have no idea what you are doing.
I remove as much of the dirt as possible so there’s nothing much of what is from store bought is left. I try to do this to prevent that part being too wet and casing the plant to die

Should be ratios of 50/50
Did you post what your mix is? I’m wondering cause I haven’t seen your posts before but have now subscribed.

Nice video I hope they do well. They are very pretty!
Thank you!
Could you please make a video of how to plant the baby leaves?(beginner here
sure..leaves for babies..or when you have babies on a leaf and what to do with them?
My six inchers 😂
I found a 1/4 inch, about, little round ball, green, on one of my violets that appeared where a flower had finished blooming. Is this a “seed”? Not sure what to do with it.
Sounds like a seed pod without seeing what it looks like..maybe leave it and see what it does? Look them up to see if it resembles what you have
Would 1/2 perlite and 1/2 African violet soil still be too heavy a mix? I haven’t been working with African Violets very long. Thank you for your videos!
Howdy..nope not at all that is the mix ratio I started with. I still have a few that are still in that mix. You are most welcome
1/2 perlite and 1/2 African violet soil should work well for regular watering. It would probably still be a little heavy for use with wick-watering.
Possibly. .I think how damp your house is and season can affect these things
What ph do violets like
What is the white mix your using
It is perlite 😊❤️
@@giggalz all of it is just perlite?

planting African violet leaves
Will do!
She useing too much perlite if you noice, should be half and half
