The line is great, but his DELIVERY is what I find fantastic.
Agreed! There was a lot going on with his expressions.
Right! Like he is surprised, but in a disgusted way.😭
I actually took it like he was kind of proud of him for knowing how to read lol

true, child actors have struggled a lot with the genuine part of acting. And he was amazing at it!
It really solidifies Draco's view of his henchmen as mindless bodyguards.
It also solidifies why Crabbe had enough of Malfoy's shit in TDH, lol.
I'm pretty sure he was just implying that he's so dumb he didn't think he could read
Pretty sure that what op meant...

I went to school with Tom and was lucky enough to bump into him last year when he was visiting his parents. He's really down to earth and glad he still remembers my name
@AlezanderNX really? I never heard that before. I couldn't imagine Tom being bullied that sucks
B.s
Harry bullied him.
Naww that must be so cool
He said aye dumb geeze and man thought he remembered his name
Honeslty it's just impressive that as a child actor he didn't just go "oh I forgot my line. Can we do it again?" And instead just improved a good line that not only worked for the scene but totally fit the character. Props.
I honestly believe a child who knows how to act, are always better at then adults.
4 months ago, 1.3k likes but still 1 reply? Let me fix that
He was a seasoned child actor by the time he was in Harry Potter. He was, in fact, THE most experienced child actor of the whole child/teen cast pretty much.
(source: I was a child actor and have done improve since I was 5)
I will never be more impressed with a child actor than I am with...the now adult.... Haley Joel Osment (Sixth Sense I see dead people kid)
Bruce Willis came out and literalky shed a tear over how unbelievably talented that kid was. He said "Im crying now out of jealousy lol. That kid took ALL of us to acting school." He went on to say for most, it is INSANELY hard to cry on cue. This kid could play any emotion on cue to any level of severity or sincerity and NAIL it every single time on the FIRST take.
You can hear the tiny bit of hesitation in his voice and the change in demeanor. Realizing the line was more codescending then confused, if efeel like he was supposed to end that line with a question because of his face before he imrpvoed the line
Also,he was the only one that just got to the audition, not even knowing who he wanted to play.He wasn’t even a Harry Potter Fan😂

Whether or not he improvised it... the dialogue delivery was a class act and thats what made it so enjoyable 😂. Such genuine shock over discovering his so called friend could read ( also revealing how demeaningly malfoy thought of others... even ones he carried around like friends). Superb acting from a child so little!!!!!!!! ❤
It’s not improvised. Chris Columbus recommended the line to him and he liked it. But it wasn’t in the script.

kids are usually funnier than a room full of adult writers when it comes to being kids...
It doesn't help that they also have the adorable factored in as well.
This!
Hes an amazing actor too.
Also the writers are writing for many characters... The actors are focused on that one character and can really get into it.

As well as the actor of Draco’s father, he came up with the amazing improved “well, let’s hope Potter will always be around to save the day”, of which Radcliffe replied, “don’t worry, I will be”. Those two lines were improvised and are arguably the most powerful lines in that scene
The actor who plays Lucius said he got a chill down his spine or something after Daniel said that line
This shows how good of actors both are
I remember those lines from the books-
He also improvised kicking dobby down the stairs, to the confusion of the people filming, “what are you doing?” “I’m obviously kicking dobby down the stairs”
Also improvised “AVADA…..”
This actor is SO underrated!
You see in his eyes the ‘oh shit what was my line WING IT!’ 😂
If someone said that and it wasn’t planned, I would burst out laughing because it’s such a strong joke I’m impressed with the other actors for keeping it together
You have to, otherwise it could ruin golden scenes, just like this one.
@@KE-yq2eg No, you don't have to. They film scenes multiple times. If the actors started laughing after a great improvised line and the director and writers thought it was great they would just shoot the scene again telling everyone it will be in.
Who says they weren't laughing? Just because a line is improvised doesn't mean they have to accept the first take. If an improvised line is truly great they will do additional takes with it. If the actors had to be disciplined about not breaking character at all costs they wouldn't even come up with improvisation.
@@JSmellerM You can also hide it through editing.
@@JSmellerM I hate when actors break. It’s so unprofessional and it feels like they are laughing at what you throw at them. It’s super unprofessional, even if you have the time and budget to do several takes, you don’t forget the feeling of someone laughing in your face when you are being serious in character.
That’s how many improvs happen. Actors forget or muck up lines a lot and if you’ve got a professional cast, they just roll with it and it sometimes makes the scene so much better then what was scripted 😂😂
I wanted to know the real and original line. cause as you said, everyone improvise because they forgot the line unless it's jim carrey or late robin williams
@@arian512 I’m not too sure tbh. I have had a look online but I can’t find a straight answer 🤷♀️
a little something I learned from my own acting classes, the script is not a strict set of rules for how a dialogue plays out, it's a guideline, your goal as an actor is to get in the head of the person you're playing and speak as they would and if that means going off script, as long as it works, it's viable for the end production. This is why improv is taught to actors of all kinds since sometimes the actor just knows better than the scriptwriter what would come up naturally in that situation, and in the vast majority of cases, it does come out very natural and makes for some amazing lines.
@@louthinator I’m an actor myself. I love improv and I believe it helps character and costar bonding because it can be so fun and crazy
@@VexieT not just that but it gives you what's called the principle of flexible empathy. What's meant by that is since the point of improv is putting yourself in the mind of someone in often outlandish or absurd situations, it broadens your ability to put yourself in an unfamiliar pair of shoes, which makes it a lot easier to get into your character's headspace. My acting never went beyond theatre but I have been wanting to do voice acting for some time, and my old improv exercises still help me get into character to this day.
you can see him about to smile in the final frame 😂
He turned that look of confusion into looking impressed that they could read

Actually one of my favourite lines because of how well it was delivered in that moment.
The scene is so tense and then he drops that.
The "I didn't know you could read" was actually proposed by the director to Tom Felton. Tom agreed and says the line, director says "Cut!" and he can't stop laughing. It made its way into the film. Source: "Beyond The Wand" by Tom Felton
The whole part about the glasses and the reading is just not in the original screenplay. All of it was not planned... he didn't just improvise some line.

Got to hand it to Tom. Even as a lad he understood who Draco was fundamentally and easily tapped into that kind of personality. Really brought it all alive.
He just forgot his line. That it. Wasn't that deep.
@@number0017 He improvised an awesome line as a kid actor that was very in touch with his character's personality. I just think that's cool. Sorry for not getting your approval to be impressed by that.
Bro, the kid hadn’t even heard of Harry Potter when he showed up for the audition 😂. He didn’t know anything about the character or his “personality”.
He nailed it.... That he improvised and with an awesome line shows his caliber 👍🏻
What a sweet actor.. it takes a seriously talented person to create a character that is so instantly, universally hated.. to accomplish all that PLUS the improvisation we don’t even really know about.. hats off to you my man.. hats off. ✌🏽
The fact that lying made him draco malfoy is very funny. If you didn't know in audition, they asked everyone if they read the books or not. Tom didn't read the books, so he lied and said yes, but then they asked him his favourite part of the book he gave the same answer as the person in front of him. The ( idk what you call them so I quess I say staff😅 ) the staff quickly understood what he was doing and casted him as draco. Another story is that he was the oldest kid, so he enjoyed teasing other kids. English is my 3. Language, so excuse my mistakes.
If English is your third language, and you’re this good at it then that is incredible, and you should be proud.
I’m still struggling to learn a second language, and here you are with three. Good for you!
@American Girl thank you. That is the nicest thing I heard the whole day. I make a lot of typos, and the biggest problem is my aksent since I speak 2 different languages on a daily basis on top of that I have to only speak English on somedays at class since our teacher is very strict and i get a British accent while speaking English so people like to tease me for it.
@@AkineruMoriWith respect, the word is spelled “accent”. I envy ANYONE who can learn more than one language. I sometimes struggle with English myself, and I’m a native speaker!
@@PoesRaven73 thank you for correcting me
I think that your English is very good, it is my third language too .
My first one is Dutch, second one German because i live on the Dutch/German border and the third offcourse English. I am learning French as a fourth language but i can understand that one better than that i can speak it and i think learning to speak that one properly will take me some years i fear.
My accents are the worst though , i really envy folks who can do that .

It's funny how you could see a microsecond of panic on his face about forgetting his line, before he quickly thought of something fitting to say. Nice save, Felton.
That's one of the funniest lines in the series tbh
He absolutely nailed it with the short pause.
They should have allowed more of that because Draco needed times where he was not saying something snide. Nobody can be snide 100% of the time and this was a nice human moment.
It's perfect because even a moment that is so human is still a bit backhanded
I think it works because in all other moments he is seen, its against the trio, where he would be on his guard and snide most of the time. This scene is him with his friends (or the closest facsimilie thereof) where he might be more relaxed
...this wasn't a nice moment. He's actually shocked that his friend can read. He doesn't know who his friends are as people. How many 11+ year olds would be shocked that they're (I'm assuming) long time friend can read?
