  • I broadcast a small section of corn to show that broadcasting a corn food plot can be done if the right amount of seed is used. You don’t want to go too thick.
What I’ve noticed when broadcasting corn is the deer don’t utilize the plot nearly as much as if it was in rows. Especially if it’s slightly on the thick side. They will get in there and eat it up in the winter but you may want to mow a few paths through the corn for them in the fall so it’s easier for them to get to the center.

Great video as always. Can’t imagine how you do all of this work and shoot video. I’m on year 2 of food plotting and your videos have really helped me.

I did the same thing. Broadcast corn plot. Plus soybeans. The soybean is hammered. Corn looks great. Ears on every stalk The plot looks great.

I’ve done many broadcast soybean plots too. I’ve never done corn and beans broadcasted together though.

Enjoyed the video like the diversity in planting methods, old school turning dirt, great looking black dirt, how often do get soil tested?

We haven’t tested this particular plot yet. This is the 3rd year planting here. We probably should do a test next spring. The corn grew fine but our pumpkins in this same field that we harvest and sell at the rd did ok but not as good as last year.

Good video question for you is it too late to mow clover? Got the grass killed in the plot not the broadleafs

If you want to mow you should do it pretty soon once you get around Labor day then it’s probably getting too late.

You could have still sprayed with a broadleaf selective herbicide such as 2-4D couldn't you? Either way, good job. And thanks for taking the time to put this stuff together. I have learned a lot from you over the years.

Yeah I definitely could have. But you have to be careful with 24D. I sprayed some of my field corn a number of years ago when it was about 12-18in to try and kill some of the water hemp and must have mixed the 24D too strong and it stunted the corn bad. Haven’t sprayed 24D on corn since then.

@@wisconsinwhitetail9744Yeah just do a test with a weak rate at first just use a gallon or 2 hand sprayer and add maybe 2 ounces and see how it reacts. Corn is labeled for 2-4 D you just need to follow the specs and stay on the weak side. I like simazine too @ a quart per acre. Some guys go stronger even.

Wow...Still trying to figure out how you pulled this plot out after seeing how hard it got hit in the beginning? You must be one lucky foodplotter...or just that good?? You sure you didnt go back and reseed/replant it??

I didn’t think it looked that bad in the beginning. The birds got a few but there was still a good amount there.

@@wisconsinwhitetail9744the crows & turkey's destroy my plots every year. I heard you say when sprouting you broadcast corn as a distraction? Does this work well for you? How often do you do that? Thanks!

Time to go pro with a 'beginning farmer' loan brother 👍
What are your long term plans for the future anyway?
Any desire to buy a blank slate property for the channel?

I’d love to farm some acres someday. Right now I don’t have the money to buy a property of my own.

How much is a 50 pound bag of that 🌽

A bag that roughly plants an acre is $150. Kinda pricey. You could probably stretch it to 1.5acres.
