I love how nobody remembers that Switzerland has an event that allows them to annex Three Leagues just by having high relations...
Of course it does, but with 10 years mtth, not so worth to block your mission tree on RNG
Plus the cores is basically zero AE anyways so might as well be aggressive

When i saw Merc Ideas being added, this was my first tought as well. Also Sweden works really well with Merc Ideas as well, since they stack Merc maintenance and Infantry CA.

Denmark is secretly best at mercs: you get 15% merc discipline for the rest of the game from missions and missions you can do quite fast. Some cost reduction too.
i love runs like this where you take advantage of stacking specific bonuses. i recommend bohemia with innovative ideas to stack tech cost and advisor cost reduction

My first campaign in 1.35 is also with the swiss. Although I took admin ideas first and merc ideas second. The policy from these 2 give a merc maintenance reduction. So you can use your manpower and early army for the earlier wars and around the time the 2nd idea is finished you'll have the tier 5 reform. From that point delete normal troops and go full merc.
Love how that is the exact opposite of all other tags in the game lol
@@FoggyMcFogFace Somewhat kind of fun in that regard, but having 30%+ discipline and something that feels like infinite manpower makes it broken. A coalition of nearly every catholic nation couldn't beat me before 1500.

Great to see the campaign when i just did it myself in a casual mp. It was super funny because at some point your mercs have legit no manpower issued. Adfitionally if you want to prevent bordergore you can take influence ideas. Because merc-influ policy allows you to form client states. Pretty cool to do it before 1700.
Or I could fix bordergore in next couple of years :D

I have a question. There are some specific modifiers for mercenaries like mercenary discipline etc. Do normal modifiers, like from quality or offensive ideas, apply to mercs as well, or are the two things completely separate and normal ideas only affect regular armies?

I did the same in my own campaign, but now thinking im pretty sure admin second idea is better.
Admin+merc ideas give you -15% merc maintanance, what brings you to -40% (-25 from merc ideas as well) really early in the campaign, and the core cost reduction if pretty good as well.
The buffs in court ideas are really good, so maybe its still worth being second, idk.
Merc cost reduces both cost upfront and upkeep. So it is better. However you can easily reach the merc cost cap. So for the cheapest mercs merc court ideas is better than admin merc ideas. Merc maintenance reduction is mostly good for counterracting the fact that merc maintenance increases through the ages.
@@sanderleander3367 - no, it dont, you can check it in his next video while he has the same question (though its kinda obvious, you can stack merc cost too easily for that to be the case, while maintenance is kinda rare).
- again, no, merc cost is good in any moment in the game. in late game you have a good economy and wont need the reduction as much as in the early game. It'll still be relevant but in the first 50-100 years, if you dont have some maintenance reduction, you cant go merc only. if you stack enough you can even go over force limit.
@@rimanpele Kinda weird because i swear it changed the upkeep when i played. Plus regiment cost normally changes upkeep cost for normal units. So i don't see why merc cost shouldn't do the same. The thing is without going admin i had hit the upkeep reduction cap for most of th mercs untill it slipped past me at like 1550 or something. I would humbly accept it if i am wrong about admin ideas being kinda not needed.
@@sanderleander3367 it's needed in all campaigns due to gov cap, the question is when.
regiment cost works that way because theres no regiment maintenance modifier, what exists for mercs.
you hit a cap to merc costs because its easy to stack, the modifiers are too big, but you wont be needing to hire many mercs since the manpower pool of each one is massive.
I think swiss meta now is merc -> admin -> religious if going protestant or merc -> espionage -> admin if keep catholic.
(switzerland struggles a lot with claims, espionage is actually very good for them)
Ok but what about Mercenary Livonia?
Doesn't the -1000 forts in the area only go away if you siege down the fort that emits the ZoC that the province is in? I don't think it'll go away if you siege down a capital fort or a different fort.

Switzerland dont spend professionalism from the start with mercs (don't needing the reform or the mercs ideas), the Autonomous Swiss Cantons have this effect.
I didnt knew that before playing, its kinda hidden, but can be read if you pass your mouse on the buffs.

Switching pip posisition on generals was the most bizzare decisision Paradox ever made. Like i was conditioned for 2k hours that siege pips are on the right, i dont even look at the icons. Just Why paradox?

Paradox really pulled a sneaky on people changing around the order of leaders, rather odd and I'm not convinced it's 100% intentional?
Switzerland defo seems like an interesting campaign, some national ideas that are fairly rare that have good stacking potential that Paradox has increased availability of is a nice thing, really expands the amount of National ideas that are worth having since at higher levels they become very strong.
I'm trying a England > GB Campaign for my first Domination one, being able to rush to occupy all Irish Minors whilst minimising the amount of war exhaustion, and also using that to remove Scotland's alliance with France, then peacing out with the Irish minors all at once and triggering the Irish PU which means you don't have to core it, and you don't have to fight the like 7k rebels from each 4 dev province there. Think I got all of the British isles before 1460 and that was without coring any provinces etc so don't have to worry about tech.
Unfortunately I have now twice underestimated first Burgundy and then France and they just pulled tonnes of troops out of nowhere and combined with Iberian AI allies not being very smart meaning trying to do continental wars to get money and in the case of France, to try and get the range so I can conquer north Africa for colonial range, haven't been very successful :/
Can't tell if it's just because I havent really played Western Europe in ages or if the AI there is just acting differently.
In my first attempt before I realised I could do Ireland PU for free Irish Cores I got what i'd say is a better starting parliament of 5% crownland, combine with seize and immediately get rid of the nobles privilege that i think gives like -20% tax scaling on crownland, made my economy a fair amount stronger than in the follow up game even despite the fact I'd economically lost less from rapidly uniting the Isles.
So far, fun update. I like the new changes to estates and parliaments they encourage you to more actively use them and make them nicer to use. Free Heavy ships early game is v. strong too, although I imagine for a lot of countries the cost of maintaining may not be worth? I mean it's basically i think 300 ducat odd navy for free?
To dismand hre you must be in one war with all electors and emperor, not two, isn't?
You can do it in how many wars you want,but the issue is that you cant easily do that as when you are at ear with emperor you cannot attack empire

Jokes aside, it's linked to admin skill of your starting ruler (which for Swiss is random in 1444).
