Repair Shop Tried Fixing This PS5 3 Times! I paid a viewer $150 for this broken PS5 after they sent to a repair shop 3 separate times to be fixed and then ended up breaking it worse. Is it a simple fix they couldn't handle or did they damage it beyond repair? We'll find out when we take a look and try to fix it.

I definitely think a repair shop with this level of incompetence should be called out to the public. It does a disservice to other potential customers NOT to identify them. They are a place of business and they completely screwed this particular customer over. I’d say they owe that man a PS5!

I agree, EXCEPT it's second hand information. I have no specific reason to believe the person selling it to him lied to him when he told him about the repair shop but it's enough of a possibility that name-and-shame isn't something that should be done lightly, there's a non-zero chance it was the seller who tried to repair it himself. I hope it's much less likely than it being a bad repair shop but sometimes an outsider just can't know.

@@Torbjorn.Lindgren certainly agree with that. We don’t know what kind of communication took place between the seller and Tronicsfix, or whether the seller even provided the name of the shop. If he DID, it’s worth a phone call to verify with the shop that the repair attempt took place.

big chains many times take a corporate route where they cut costs and that many times means that they hire less skilled or experienced technicians, because skilled ones know they worth more and expect a bigger compensation for their work, they still charge you a pretty penny regardless, it's very unfortunate to see a perfectly working console being deemed a no fix for their incompetence

Coming from a place that used to repair all kinds of electronics, it is hard to decide between the shop being incompetent on the repair...OR...they tried to say it wasn't fixable and get the customer to "give" them the PS5. I had a manager that was in charge of the shop I mentioned above, he would do that to MANY things that were high ticket items cause he would get them "free" from the customer, repair them, then flip them on craigslist or ebay. One of the many reasons I stopped working for the shop.

My MP3 player got rained on and the LCD got stripes, and I remembered that you always fix that stuff using IPA to cleaning the contacts, so I dripped some down in some of the button gaps (it's a tiny enclosed unit that you can't disassemble) and with a bit of effort now it's back to normal! I believe with a lot of places like this they do not have the resources/time based on the high traffic and focus of phone repairs, so this leaves a lot of consoles and soddering jobs generally to be shipped out to a repair partner which is why they give that several week long timeline.

You know, I used to have a job that occasionally required me to do a little welding. Not a lot, I wouldn't really call myself a "welder", but I did have to sometimes. My boss still made me weld for him just so that he knew I could do it. I wonder if this repair shop's boss makes the techs solder so he/she can asses their soldering skills. Knowing how to fix something and doing it are two different things.

Adding to your last bit, knowing what and why the issue occured is also an extremely useful skill, that helps narrow down the best approach, instead of the good old "I know how to fix this, so I'll just do that" and when it doesn't work, you have absolutely no clue how to proceed.

One thing that many first time soldering people don't understand is these HDMI pins require a good amount of solder. Many times, just tining the pads is not enough. We have always went through and added more solder. He is correct in all of his videos before with cleaning the flux afterwards. Do it, don't skip it. I wish these stores wouldn't test on these new gen consoles. Then again, practice makes perfect. In the last 8 months, I have done over 200 next gen HDMI ports combines.

Going to take a stab in the dark and say this was a Geek Squad special. The turn around time is so awful because the guys in store don't usually do the repair, it's shipped off to get repaired elsewhere and then shipped back. That's why it takes 3 weeks. Probably just one mega repair center somewhere where they need to repair a whole load of crap every day and everything is a rush job. It's why such a simple repair (well simple for someone who knows what they are doing) can be so badly done. Wouldn't be shocked if they have toxic incentives at the repair centers. Repair so many things in a day or week and you get a bonus, incentivizes quick and shoddy work.

Absolutely insane how dumb some people are. That seems like an easy fix most repair shops could do pretty easily. I hope the original owner didn’t pay for those people to just send it back broken. Glad that you got it fixed & this PS5 will live anew.

I really don't like the placement of that capacitor being right next to the HDMI pins in general. It's just way too close for it.

looks like it connects 5v to ground. just turns two traces needed to one since there is plenty other ground pins as well

If I'm to send Steve something to fix that a so-called repair shop couldn't, I'll definitely post their data on the item and be ready for the vid to be uploaded so I can can post that info here, as well.
