As long as you are not concerned about 4K and not aiming to be the next Steven Spielberg, then this is a great little camera! The 1 inch sensors today are very good indeed and give very good image quality-provided you accept limitations of the sensor. However, the lens stabilisation, the lovely bright lens and compact size gives you a camera that is fun to use anywhere. Buying an interchangeable lens camera inevitably entails a huge cost for many wanting other lenses, so these smaller cameras avoid often necessary decision making and save you money to actually travel more! And there are many costly mirrorless/APSC/DSLR cameras which cost a bomb, yet have no articulating screen, no IBIS and even unimpressive high ISO performance! I do have to say that the astrophotography functions on the G5X alone (in scene mode) are fantastic too-I would never have thought such a humble camera would be so capable (saw this on a video describing these functions-amazing!!) And now with the GX5 mark 2 on sale, the Mark 1 is even a bargain buy now. I like these cameras-they have a lot to offer and make photography more fun and exciting. It is not always about being deadly serious and examining every photo under an electron microscope for those imperfections! Thank you for your helpful review.
Mark this is the best comment I've ever read. It sums my pov up perfectly. Not everyone is after pixel peeping and for most camera like this offer so much so such a comparatively little budget. Thanks for being here :)
I just bought one used and pay about US$300 , love it for travel!! I have a Cânon R but sometimes you don't want carry all that stuff ! So this camera is just perfect!
I bought this camera on eBay a few months before this video came out. I don't use it too often but I really like it. I mostly do video work with my similarly old GH4, but It's nice to have a super feature packed point it shoot with decent optics. I do wish it came with an audio input to really complete the whole package, but a small external recorder isn't the worst thing in the world. That full EVF is great and gives it that mini mirrorless look, but hurts the pocketability!
Thank you for the video. I bought this camera used about a year ago and love it for shooting opportunities wherein I don't feel like carrying my DSLRs. This camera suits street photography very well which is why it stays with me all the time. However, it's not a low-light camera despite having a very wide aperture for a point & shoot camera. The tiny sensor packs 20 megapixels which is just gimmicky nothing else. This translates to approximately 55 megapixels on a full frame sensor. This means, the pixels are very very small. As a result I get poor high ISO performance from this camera. It's certainly not a low light camera. Larger sensors and bigger pixels are indispensable for good low-light and high ISO performances. Thanks again.
Great review, i have this camera and was wondering if i should get a backup i love it so much. Mostly the design, it just feels so good to shoot with. Tons of features I’m still learning to use like astrophotography.
For someone looking to buy this for photography as a first camera, is it still worth it in 2020? I see that the mark 2 has a sharper lens, but I love this mini dslr design. I've seen a ton of great pictures from it on ig. Worth it new in 2020?
It’s still an on camera. It all depends on the price in the used market. I’ll be sure that you would still get some good results with it, and if it’s cheap enough then it’s a bargain!

I’d agree with you mate.
I am looking at cameras like these. Keep the reviews coming blokes.
Thanks Ricky. Really really appreciate it 🙌🍉🙌
Hi, Does the rear screen have "live mode" in Manual photo mode?

For photos, 100% worth it. in fact it'll be a bargain if you're willing to look pre-owned.
@@120fps thank you for the fast reply and help!
@@IIIJFRIII you think it's still worth it for videos ?

Any suggestion how to add external audio or mic to this camera model?
Very tough tbh. I'd go with external recorder probably, in truth it's an imperfect solution.
Can you use the G5X for live streaming?
I believe you can, although it's been a while since I've used it.
@@120fps I just tried the EOS Webcam Utility - and unfortunately NO love there. Does the G5X have "clean" HDMI?
it sure looks damn cool
For 45£ difference, should I go for this one or the EOS M6?
M6 for sure
@@120fps thanks !!
Hmm
